Same thing happen in our home in 2018 thank God my parent was sitting in the parlour while the stray bullet hit the dinning room few feet from the parlor. To be in your own house is not even safe again in Nigeria. May her soul rest in peace.

Celebratory gunfire from the Military!? in an already tensed and terrorist riden environment... where at anytime time they can be caught off guard in an ambush. What sort of ethic are our soldiers beeen taught at the training camp.

What rubbish!. Firing like that how would they know if they are under attacks or an attacks is happening somewhere by.
This is a height of unseriousness and shame from those Service men involved.

No.

Believe it or not, a round fired vertically into the air can penetrate flesh on return to earth (without ricocheting off any surface), causing serious injury or death to humans.

That's why celebratory gunfire is not allowed in some parts of the world - they know the risks.

What an unlucky girl.

The odds of a specific person within a one-mile radius being hit by a stray bullet are roughly 1 in 87.5 million.

Even in America, someone is 116 times more likely to die in a fire and 157 times more likely to drown than to be killed by a stray bullet.

It's still confusing to me how a bullet fired upwards will harm a person when it gets down.

It baffles me.

Can someone please define what is A STRAY BULLET?

It beats my imagination for a trained officer to shoot an innocent person in the name of STRAY BULLET.... there are processes before a shot is activated.

For me, nothing like a STRAY BULLET but blood thirty vampires in khaki especially in Nigeria
I am telling you.
We can only talk of a stray bullet when the shooter is engaged in a gunfire with a criminal or any other person. But not holding gun in a quiet place then remove from safety and releasing trigger . Then ui say stray bullet. The man should be arrested

Celebratory gunfire has no place in a civilized society. This kind of recklessness keeps costing innocent lives
I am surprised that at the end of the day they don’t account for bullets given to them. They should be returned & if any is missing, the officer should explain.

You are honestly right to be concerned. It only makes sense that something as serious as ammunition should be strictly accounted for. every bullet issued should be returned or properly documented there should be no room for carelessness. If any are missing, there definitely needs to be a clear explanation and accountability from the officer involved. that kind of transparency is important for safety and public trust

That's not true...
If the rifle has a barrel range of 800m or 1km the ammo goes up to the maximum range at that point it gets weak, gravitational force then takes place whereby the ammo descends on a free fall... At this point there is no external force acting on the ammo. If at that freefall it touches a human, the most that can occur is a flesh wound. For an ammo to kill a person then the victim must be within its killing range which is 1 to 500m depending on the rifle being used

But how if i may ask?

Am curious because when a bullet is fired upwards, what pressure will it still have while coming down to the extent of injuring someone?

I thought the same too until i saw what the experts had to say.

Apparently, the terminal velocity of the round (as it falls back to earth) can cause injury although contrary to my earlier post, death may be unlikely. But I don't know anyone who's ready to volunteer for an experiment to prove this. cheesy You can check out these links:

You may be right.

The critical thing thing though is the terminal velocity of the round upon impact (as it falls to earth and strikes someone or something). There are different views about what terminal velocity of a round is lethal. You can take a look at these links:
