OredoPikin:
Back in 2022/23, during the campaign run up to the 2023 elections, Peter Obi traveled to Egypt to study how they solved their power crisis, a fix so successful they now run a surplus. He wanted to see if that model could work for Nigeria.

What did he get for it? Attacks.
APC supporters mocked him, insisting the Buhari led APC government had already signed a deal with the same Siemens that handled Egypt’s turnaround. Photos of transformers circulated. “It’s done,” they said. “Obi is late.”

Fast forward to 2026. Four years have passed. Another election cycle is here. APC is still in power.

for context, the deal was signed in 2018 to add 25,000MW to our electricity generation. It's been 8yrs since that deal was signed.

So, where is the Siemens deal?
Where is the electricity?

Where are the transformers we were shown back then? Where is the megawatt increase Nigerians were promised under the Presidential Power Initiative with Siemens?

If the deal was real and executed, why are we still battling the same grid collapses and poor supply? If it failed, why the silence?

We can’t pretend this is not a question worth asking. Before we start debating 2027, Nigerians deserve an account of the last promises made.

To the APC supporters and defenders who told us the Siemens deal was already "settled" in 2022: where is it?

Power is not propaganda. It’s either in your sockets or it is not. And right now, the only thing Nigerians can see clearly is darkness.

Where is the Siemens deal?
Where is the electricity?
Yes! I remember this News.. Nigeria even send some teams to GERMANY...

Where are the result today?

Just like every unsuccessful/failed project, the Siemens deal has entered voicemail
Tinubu failed woefully in that aspect and should be held to his word when he said he is not electable in 2027 if by then he has not solved Nigeria's challenge with power supply.

But there is no power generation in this deal, just upgrade, transmission and distribution in all the phases of the project.

Can you tell me where the 25,000 MW will be generated from?

With zero production, what will you transmit and distribute?

sonofthunder:
The “Nigeria–Siemens deal” (officially called the Presidential Power Initiative, PPI) didn’t disappear—but it has had a rocky, stop-and-start journey.
Here’s the real situation, stripped of politics and hype:

🔌 What the Siemens deal was supposed to do

A ~$2.3 billion partnership between Nigeria and Germany (via Siemens)

Goal: fix transmission + distribution and ramp power to:

7,000 MW → 11,000 MW → 25,000 MW

Focus: upgrade substations, transformers, and grid infrastructure—not just generation

🚫 What went wrong (why people think it “failed”)
1. It basically stalled for years

After initial signing under Buhari, the project lost momentum

Key driver (Chief of Staff Abba Kyari) died

COVID-19 disruptions + bureaucracy slowed everything

Result: the deal became “largely dormant” for a long time

2. Targets were missed badly

Nigeria was supposed to hit 7,000 MW by 2021

But even by 2025:

Generation still ~4,000–5,000 MW

Transmission/distribution even lower

So on paper, the plan failed its original timeline

3. Structural problems in Nigeria’s power sector
Even beyond Siemens, the system itself is weak:

Poor transmission infrastructure

Weak distribution companies (DisCos)

Gas supply issues

Grid instability and frequent collapses

👉 In short: you can’t fix electricity with one contract if the whole value chain is broken.

🔄 What’s happening now (2024–2026 update)
The deal has been revived—not cancelled

The current administration restarted it and signed accelerated agreements

Germany confirmed it’s now back on track

Work is ongoing (Phase 1)

Focus: grid upgrades, substations, transformers

Expected impact:

+7,000 MW capacity improvement (mainly transmission)

Some equipment already delivered (mobile substations, transformers)

⚖️ So what’s the honest verdict?

❌ It did not deliver what was promised on time

❌ It was effectively stalled for years

✅ It is not dead—just delayed and restructured

⚠️ Success now depends on execution, not announcements

🧠 Bottom line
The Siemens deal didn’t “disappear”—it underperformed, stalled, and is now being restarted in phases.
If it works this time, you’ll see:

stronger grid (less collapse)

gradual increase in stable supply

If it fails again, it’ll be for the same reason as before:
👉 Nigeria’s electricity problems go beyond one project.

As long as our energy mix is largely burning hydrocarbons, and consumers can add load unchecked, then we'll always be in a race condition trying to meet demand....and we'll always lose that race.

Flangelo12:
The $2.3 billion Siemens-Nigeria Power Deal (Presidential Power Initiative - PPI) is active and in its second phase as of early 2026, aimed at modernizing Nigeria's power grid and improving reliability.

Following a period of stagnation, the project was revived by President Tinubu's administration. It has successfully delivered and commissioned multiple mobile substations and transformers, yielding roughly 984 MW in additional capacity. The overall target is to reach 25,000 MW with projects ongoing to reduce grid outages.

Key status updates include:

Revival and Status: The partnership was stalled but was revived and accelerated, with, as of early 2026, the project is moving forward under President Tinubu, having seen increased momentum.

Infrastructure Progress: Siemens has delivered and installed 132/33 KV mobile substations and several 75/100 MVA and 60/66 MVA transformers nationwide.

Phase 2 Goals: The project is currently focused on upgrading seven lines and installing 10 transmission lines covering 554 km to boost capacity to 7,140 MW.
.
Key Focus: The deal seeks to mitigate grid failure, increase electricity access, and upgrade key transmission substations.

Timeline: The project timeline was extended, with some critical project components (substations) expected to be finalized around 2026.

Since you asked a question hees what I found out about the deal.

The Siemens Nigeria power deal is one of Nigeria’s biggest electricity reform plans—but the honest answer is:
👉 It has been slow, partly delayed, but now moving again (not fully successful yet).
Let me break it down clearly.
🔌 What the Siemens deal was supposed to do
Signed around 2018–2019 between Nigeria and Germany
Worth about $2.3 billion
Goal: fix Nigeria’s transmission + distribution (not just generation)
Targets:
7,000 MW → short term
11,000 MW → medium term
25,000 MW → long term
Majorwaves Energy Report +1
👉 At the time, Nigeria was producing only about 4,000 MW, so this was a big upgrade plan.
⚠️ What actually happened (Reality)
1. It basically stalled for years
After it started, the project lost momentum
Reasons:
Death of key government coordinator
COVID-19 disruptions
Bureaucracy & funding issues
By around 2021–2023, very little real progress happened
Punch Newspapers +1
👉 So early targets (7,000 MW by 2021, etc.) were missed completely.
2. It was revived recently
Under President Bola Tinubu
Government re-signed/accelerated the agreement with Germany
Project is now active again and moving forward
Punch Newspapers +1
⚙️ What has been achieved so far
Some real progress (but still early stage):
Delivery of transformers & mobile substations ✔️
About 984 MW transmission capacity added ✔️
State House Abuja
Installation of equipment across locations like Lagos, Ogun, Oyo ✔️
FGN Power Company
Phase 1 officially ongoing (grid upgrade, substations) ✔️
Punch Newspapers
👉 Current Phase 1 aims to:
Strengthen the grid
Add up to ~7,000 MW capacity potential
Punch Newspapers
⏳ Current status (2026)
Project is NOT completed
Still in Phase 1
Some substations expected to finish by end of 2026
Advisors Reports
Government admits progress is “below expectation”
TheCable
⚖️ Final verdict
✅ Positives
Not dead anymore (revived)
Infrastructure upgrades ongoing
Some improvement in transmission capacity
❌ Negatives
Missed original deadlines badly
Impact not yet strongly felt by most Nigerians
Still far from 24/7 stable electricity
🧠 Bottom line
👉 The Siemens deal is a good plan on paper
👉 But in reality:
Started badly (stalled)
Now progressing slowly
Still far from delivering full results
a simple google search could have shown better explanation, but like their oga, they love lies and disturbing.
thank you Jare.
Re: Where Is The Siemens Deal? 4 Years Later, Nigerians Are Still In The Dark by keemsleek(m): 4:53pm On Apr 25
OredoPikin:
You mean for 8yrs they couldn't deliver even 1k MW?
Meaning to deliver that 25k MW it will take APC govt 200yrs instead of the initial 6yrs that was signed 🙄🙄. How is that progress?
Are u not tired ?

To even think that same Siemens delivered same 25k MW for Egypt in 2yrs and 4months instead of the 4yrs they signed because of the seriousness of their govt.
Who cursed us for this country?
How much mw did pdp deliver in 16yrs? And for your lies that Siemens built 25MW while it was actually 14,400mw in 2yrs 5months. Here's the break down.

The difference between Egypt’s Siemens project and Nigeria’s own deal comes down to speed of execution, structure, and consistency.
🇪🇬 Egypt (Fast – about 2.5 years)
Handled by Siemens
Why it moved quickly:
Central control: Decisions came directly from Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and were executed without delays
Full funding ready upfront: Egypt secured financing immediately (billions of dollars arranged quickly)
Single focus: Build new power plants from scratch (3 massive stations at once)
Minimal bureaucracy: Fewer approvals, less political back-and-forth
Strong transmission planning: They upgraded generation and grid together
👉 Result: 14,400 MW delivered in ~2.5 years
🇳🇬 Nigeria (Slower – ongoing since 2019)
Known as the Nigeria Electrification Roadmap
Why it’s slower:
Complex problem: Not just building new plants — Nigeria is fixing:
Transmission
Distribution
Metering
Funding delays: Loans (from Germany and others) took time to finalize
Multiple stakeholders: Federal Govt, DISCOs, TCN, regulators — all must align
Policy & leadership changes: Government transitions slow momentum
Existing infrastructure issues: Old, weak grid needs upgrades before adding big power
Phases in Nigeria
Phase 1: Improve existing grid to reach ~7,000 MW (ongoing)
Phase 2: Expand to ~11,000 MW
Phase 3: Target ~25,000 MW long term
👉 This is planned over many years (possibly 8–10+ years total)
The Real Difference (Simple)
Egypt: “Build big, fast, from scratch”
Nigeria: “Fix a broken system while upgrading it”
Straight truth
Egypt’s project was easier to execute because it was a clear, single mission with full money and control.
Nigeria’s is harder because it’s rebuilding an entire power ecosystem, not just adding capacity.

Pdp did not add one single mw to the grid for 16yrs. Arlt least Apc added 700mw... all of them have messed up but apc did little. Olu Agunloye of pdp stole almost 10 billion dollars for nepa and obj denied signing any paper this same pple are all in ADC una new campion. We need new Brains like bianca ojukwu, soludo, otti, as vice president

They will tell you Aba is having steady electricity that is small small it will reach everywhere... Bunch of scammers and scavengers
Not all Aba is getting 24/7 power supply.
It is just like in Lagos where some specific areas and specialized, high-end, or commercial locations are receiving between 20 and 24 hours of power supply daily, often classified under the "Band A" tariff category.
These areas are typically served by dedicated feeders or independent power projects (IPPs) and involve higher electricity tariffs.
Some of these areas include...
Ikeja Business Unit: Areas include parts of Ojodu (River Valley), Opebi (Awuse, General Hospital, Oba Akinjobi), and Secretariat Estate (Agidingbi).
Akowonjo Business Unit: Locations include parts of Egbeda and Anifowoshe (Siyanbola, Awolowo).
Island Business Unit: High-consumption areas such as 1004 Estate, 2nd Avenue, Corporation Drive, Federal Palace Express, Federal Secretariat, Foreshore, ICON, Idowu Martins, Kingsway, Parkview, and parts of Victoria Garden City (VGC).
Other Areas: Parts of Abule-Egba (Ijaiye), Oshodi (Ajao Estate, Canal), and Shomolu (Ilupeju, Magodo, Maryland, Ogudu) also feature locations with high-hour supply.
Commercial/Market Zones: Select commercial hubs like the Sura Shopping Complex and Iponri Market have independent power solutions providing 24/7 electricity.

Siemens main duty is to upgrade our transmission and distribution capabilities..... And yes to that 25,000mw.

But problem is more than that.

Even though our transmission capacities are very poor compared to the already poor generation capacity, the distribution arm of electric power has been reported to be in the business of rejecting power from generation companies.

COVID

COVID messed up funding and also prevented Siemens from sending in experts to help with the work

COVID also did a number on our finances. For over 11 months , oil was below 30.dollars a barrel. We had to literally borrow just to survive. That is when ways and means went from emergency funding things to a way of life.

Same issue with Kaduna - Abuja road and some other projects. COVID .
