jedisco:The second is like unto the first. Is there something they put in certain British kpali that people get high when they receive it? Always wondered... one on NL was annoyed that it was getting easier for Nigerians to migrate to the UK saying the UK has lost it's mojo. The other said we were insulting Brits for raising concerns. Now its 'we Brits'.. I just don't get it. There's definitely more to life than a kpali. I shared here yrs back how it took me several weeks of contemplating to decide if I should stay back for my kpali after almost 4yrs in. A friend of mine who I had been encouraging to buy a place while waiting for his woke one morning and japa'd. Since then, I have seen an increasing number of colleagues contest thesame dilema. Oddly, after I saw the 'we Brits' post, I went one of my 'we groups' on FB and saw the post screenshoted below. I usually remember my kpali when it's time to travel or for certain ID checks. What is in this kpali that makes folks see it as their greatest achievement to the extent of bragging endlessly about it? Is it underachieving in facets of life that matter? Those who have received theirs, please share let me know if I'm missing something.

Goodenoch:Oddly, I didn’t bother reading the last post. Looked at how long it was and said 'not worth the time' The funny thing is that 3-5yrs ago, if I encountered a similar post on NL, I'd be wondering to myself who this person is. But with what I know of the UK today, I'm over 90% certain that bloke lives off benefits. I can just about imagine him speak. It's the pomposity of such people that did my head in |

Interesting video with a surprising twist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtCd4z1ed-c&pp=iggCQAE%3D A good section of the UK certainly runs on tax avoidance. I remember reading something similar on how the now defunct non-dom status was set up by the UK to fleece India and other colonies of taxing certain british folks. Imagine if it was another country had this vast set-up of tax avoidance.... it'd be constant stories of xyz |

jedisco:You are 90% certain that a "bloke" you have never met is on benefits, but have 0% clue about the when, the what and the why of how your homeland will develop - despite it being your lived experience . Your low-brow nature is typical. Can't make a decent attempt at even a simple case for his assertions, so resorts to ad hominem and personal attacks. Unsurprising crassness from one who spams the thread with his financial statements. Bragging about a 70k pension pot, talk about small and shake. Utter tit!jedisco:That is a question you'd have to pose to those that "receive it" - especially in preference to their homeland "kpali". And like the small minded tribal creature you are, you cannot grasp notions of patriotism or even commonwealth, let alone love and the desire for flourishing of one' nation. Driven only by your belly, grift and a desire for self-aggrandisement. And lo, your fellow ship abandoning pack come crawling out . If only they could find or post something worthy of a response. As the nation, so the people. TeeVee ![]() |

The same rich folks are the ones saying the country has been invaded by foreigners to continue to distract from criminal activities like this! They are also the major sponsors of the reform party, na average Brits I just pity especially the ones that rely majorly on welfare from the govt |

justwise:Labour MPs would rather snap off their fingers lol than call a snap GE because they know Farage will 💯 become PM, likely propped up by the Tories. Looks like Labour MPs are moving on with the stalking horse to replace Starmer following his speech. Unfortunately doesn't matter who replaces him, even if their "saviour" Burnham (who previously lost 2 Labour leadership contests 🙄 ) somehow manages to get back in (is there even a safe seat in Greater Manchester for him now following the elections ), it looks like this Labour govt is toast. Opposition parties will hound them until they call a GE as they will claim the new leader has no mandate, a la Gordon Brown, T May etcSigh, quite disheartening only 2 years on from the hope and promise of big change. |

Lexusgs430:People were laughing that Starmer was 🧹 Badenoch into the cupboard and they were counting down to her end.... <2 years in, Kemi is 😴 peacefully, her position secure for at least another year, while Starmer is hiding in the cupboard, desperately trying to survive until the Kings Speech later this week. |

Hey guys I need help. I am trying to book a flight from London to Lagos and the cheapest I can find is Royal air Maroc with a layover in Morocco. Would I need a valid Morocco visa to book this flight and transit through Morocco? I don’t have one. Someone should kindly answer me before I book an unusable ticket please. |

Zahra29:They have given up for now and KS was told to resign by September which i don't think he will do. The whole pressure on KS is just political noise and pleasing to Reform. If Labour wants to survive this stormy period they have rally round KS else they will pay heavier price |

Bukad:First thing to note is that ETFs are not so huge in NG. You’ll be looking at mutual funds for the most part as the functional equivalent. There’s a thread dedicated to this: https://www.nairaland.com/8597904/equity-investment/163 I suggest taking the time to read (or at least skim through) it from the beginning. That way you’ll get a good feel of the various fund managers/platforms and how they operate. For specific fund managers, here’s the list of best performing mutual funds from last year - https://nairametrics.com/2026/02/14/top-10-performing-money-market-mutual-funds-in-2025-by-ytd-yield/ So far this year - https://nairametrics.com/2026/05/11/top-10-equity-mutual-funds-by-ytd-returns-in-april-2026/ Most of the managers also offer fixed income funds, money market funds. t-bills etc if you’re looking for lower-risk options. Personally though I believe if you’re investing in NG you might as well go for an equity fund to go high risk high reward and chase capital growth to mitigate the FX exposure. |

Zahra29:I'd say Burnham's moment has very likely passed; if he finds a seat to contest he'll be out of a job. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 7:03pm On May 11 |
Cyberknight:Apparently he's told allies he has a plan and a seat Apparently #2, he doesn't need to resign the mayoralty until be becomes an MP so either way he can't really lose. The absolute cheek of the man that he expects the country to sit on its hands, in even worse stasis, in the face of the Iran war, oil blockades, cost of living etc, until he rides back into town on a "white horse" HISSSSSSS I don't swear but I'm very tempted by this shower. At this rate, GE next year and Labour will be banished back to the electoral wilderness for another 15 years - and deservedly so. |

justwise:I predict that Cabinet will ask KS tomorrow to set out a timeline for his resignation. Unfortunately I think it might be curtains for Starmer. The "herd is on the move" and the drip-drip of resignations has started just like when Boris was eventually forced out. Agree with the bolded. Disloyal bunch, many of whom sabotaged several of KS proposals and then turned around to blame him for inaction and the local elections failure. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Cyberknight: 8:09pm On May 11 |
Zahra29:The herd appears to be moving, as you've said. PPS falling on their swords and acting as stalking horses left and right. I do swear, and I'm giving vent as I write. Stupid backbenchers tore holes in some of the decent plans Starmer put forward, the twats. Now here we are. I've no idea how Labour messed things up this badly with all the U-turning and flip-flopping, and at this time I just want them to hang together for a while and stave off Reform for a couple of years for obvious reasons (acknowledging that not everyone will feel the same). Well, we'll see what we'll see. Bugger. |

justwise:What surprises me is that a well-established system like this gets very little media attention. I've always wondered why those islands were popular. Appear they are a sophisticated state-sanctioned means of tax evasion or whitewashing global wealth. The nation has done an almost perfect job of keeping them at arms length while still reaping the benefits of their action |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by jedisco(m): 6:06am On May 12 |
Goke7:Hehe... Seriously, without seeing this, I'd have struggled to conceptualise how well entrenched such a system is. We all know those Islands as tax havens but we never really see the British part of them. It's an eye-opener. As per Reform, our British Trump seems locked in. The funny thing is that most reform voters hate Trump but like it when Trumpian policies are applied locally. Some things do seem inevitable at this stage- certain lessons could always to be learned twice. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Goke7: 8:46am On May 12 |
jedisco:The thing shock me gan. It’s a deliberate fabricated system to actually keep the London economy going 😂 and we say it’s the third world countries or whatever they call it that are corrupt? Issorite As for Reform am just waiting for the PM himself to finally tell us who he is instead of all this drama, he needs to come outside finally 😂 |
