I have a very close friend who have two siblings. My friend was an SS while his younger brother was also an SS but his elder brother is not

My friend was a very brilliant guy. In fact, he was one of the most brilliant students when we were in JJS 2 back then, but he used to skip school a lot back then during crisis

He might come to school consecutively for 3 weeks and in the coming week, he might not come at all

In 2012, he lost his younger brother who had SS crisis and they were remaining just two

They later relocated out of our area and we lost contact.. I tried reaching out to him but no way.. I also went to his Facebook and I discovered it has been inactive for more than 10 years

I was added to our alumni group and I decided to ask about him, only for me to be told that he passed on around 2016

His elder brother is the only one alive now.. Imagine! 3 children reduced to 1 in a span of 14 years

it's an obvious error but the way my heart is skipping since last night ehhh,this people can kill someone for no reason,my mom that even forced me to do it is aa,just that she isn't sure of my dad and he is late and the girl I intend to marry is as so she wanted me to be very sure and while I was going into higher institution I remembered always to be aa,aside all that I have never even been sick all my life,the only once I went to the hospital for check ups was around 2018 and my dad had to force me cause I had some issues then and it affected me and I looked very weak, even the check up and the drugs where still useless cos I didn't take any serious till date.....I have never been ill for atleast 5years now and even when I do max is 48hrs I get well without taking any medications, imagine going for HIV test in such clinics

25% chance of being SS.

25% chance of being AA.

50% chance of being AS.

If they give birth to 4 kids and they are really unlucky, all 4 can be SS.

If they give birth to 4 kids and they are really really lucky, all 4 can be AA.

In most cases though, their children will be AS because of the higher probability.

But why take that chance at all of bringing an SS and the pain you will cause an innocent human. Just marry right.

You are a very dumb person...punnet square is to determine probability of having an AS,AA AND SS...it is very possible to give birth to SS CHILDREN all through and vice versa...They will find out soon sha....just like one in my DM has been disturbing me on how to manage his SS child....They should save money for alot of drama..they will learn a new thing soon

I strongly suggest their should be law to ban AS and As genotype to marry by National Assembly to avert given birth to Sickle cell babies.

Why do people always rely on negativity, My close friend didn’t got married on time cos he was AS and almost of the ladies he met earlier in his younger years were AA but they ended up jilting him and he waited till he was 39 and finally settle with his wife now and she was AS. To God be the glory they had 2 children a boy and a girl and they are not SS.

It’s only God that can do it if you allow him take control of your situation. Going by Humans and doctor calculations sometimes put one in an impossible situation when it comes to life and death.

This is so heartbreaking to read. I’m truly sorry for your loss.
My aunt also experienced something very painful in her marriage. She and her husband didn’t know their genotypes before getting married he was SS and she was AS. She had just given birth to their last child when her husband passed away.
Sadly, she later lost her first son just a few months before his university graduation, and then lost her second son only a month after his graduation from Uni. She now has two daughters left, but the younger one is living with SS and is constantly in and out of the hospital almost every two weeks. Each time her daughter falls sick, my aunt breaks down in tears, saying, “I’m sorry for bringing this pain upon you.” It’s honestly so difficult and painful to witness. Hmmm… it is well.

you're very correct, am AS my wife is also AS... we have 3 children, 1st is AA, 2nd is also AA, 3rd is AS.... we are advised not to go for 4th.

There is a way now. They (doctors) now can detect the genotype of a newly fertilized baby from 3 weeks old and if it is ss, they can abort the baby at just 2 weeks old and if it is AA or AS, they will keep it

Everything is about probability u can give birth to SS or AS and u might be lucky not give birth to SS. My own advice is if u love ur partner and u re both AS. Just be ready for what so ever might happen and be prayerful about it God will surely come true for u. Becos he come true for me...

If you have ever cared for an SS you will know that the pain, agony and sorrow it brings is more than the joy they have other the remaining five children.

Think of it as someone having a terminal disease from day one of his life.

I have a customer that has remained inconsolable since opening up to me.

Said the mandated genotype tests prior to his marriage said he was "AA" thus giving his the greenlight to proceed with marrying his wife, AS. Two children, and five years now, with recurrent visits to the hospital, he says he's totally miserable! More than he earns goes to managing those two kids.

In the thick of his trauma, a new test (and a confirmatory test as well) has now shown he is AS and those kids are SS. He's totally heartbroken.

To fully understand the extent of his frustrations, just imagine how a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses would want to consider having a new/right wife knowing how slim the chances of survival the ones he now has(AS) is.
