Is It Wise To Buy A Manual Transmission As A First Car? by GideonG(op): 10:16pm On May 11
Hello Nairalanders,

Please I need your honest advice.

I am considering buying a Toyota Corolla 2010 as my first car, but the one I am seeing is manual transmission. I know most people prefer automatic, especially in city traffic, but I also hear that manual cars can be cheaper to maintain, more fuel-efficient, and sometimes more durable if handled well.

My concern is that this will be my first car, and I am still thinking about whether manual transmission is a good idea for a beginner, especially with Nigerian traffic and daily movement.

Please for those who have used manual cars before, especially Corolla manual:

Is it advisable for a first-time car owner?

Is the maintenance easier or cheaper than automatic?

Will it be stressful in traffic?

Does it affect resale value badly?

What should I check before buying a manual Corolla 2010?

I will appreciate your sincere advice before making payment.

Thank you.

If you’re asking, you already know it’s wrong. Will you perform interstate travels? Do so with a manual transmission and find out.

The only advantage is that if you master driving manual, you can easily drive any other.

However, do you know how to drive already? If not, you will get the clutch burnt severally.

In terms of resale, it is easier to sell auto gear vehicles than manual.

Hope this helps.

manual transmission are fuel efficiency, easy to maintain no gear box issue or changing or gear fluid like automatic, manual gearbox go out leave the car it self

it's wise and advisable as a first time car owner to get automatic car

Use that to master driving and confidence on the road before going for manual

Manual car was created mostly for conformity. If you want a smooth ride with your first car, go for automatic

Wait it seems the top commenters can't drive manual at all cux what's all these with manual cars are not comfortable on interstate travels...experience bla bla bla??

Manual cars are even more enjoyable on interstate trips. Drove my dad's 1987 Camry for years before he got a 09 Sequoia and that machine was a horse on long trips.

Manual drivers and expert drivers know you don't shift too frequently on long trips and there is this vibe and style that comes with shifting gears. It's a whole lot of experience! so fun that some manual drivers even love shifting for fun, I usually, unnecessary cruise in neutral when I am downhill just for the fun of holding the hear more often than needed🤣🤣🤣

And my! Have you seen a pretty girl shifting gears before? 🤣 not the one time gear shift in automatic but the frequent shifting and caressing of the gear lever especially if she's putting a lot of finesse into it😊😊😊

Automatic could be better if you are looking at modern cars but those arguments up there have nothing on manual at all.

Is it wise to buy an obsolete or button phone as first phone?

Your answer would be good as mine for you.…..

The only reason any one should be thinking about manua is if you're buying it for pleasure or antique collection.

Go for it bro , its not that difficult to drive it, fuel is expensive , any car that will reduce fuel consumption

Owning a car is no longer a luxury, if it won't solve economic problem for you don't buy it. Manual cars are cheaper to maintain and it consume much lesser fuel.

My fuel cost is now over 300k per month excluding maintenance. At this point I would choose keke napep over Rolls-Royce because its no longer about the luxury, it's about how it affect my life, my business, my savings. There are lots of meetings I now miss because I don't want to waste fuel. If keke napep can ply highway at this point, I don't mind getting a keke

It doesnt really matter and no, manual cars are not more fuel efficient or easier to maintain unless in circumstances were automatic version of the cars have transmissoon issues and thats rare.

Manual transmission dont have gear issues or need to service gear oil but they do have clutch issues sometimes and need to have certian fixes too. At the end of the day automatic is easier and convinient but it depends on budget and driving experience or style.

Exactly cuz if you want to argue that automatic is better, it shouldn't even be those sort of arguments. People don't know that being able to drive manual vehicles is a life saving skill

Manual cars makes you a professional to handle every types of automobile including trucks. Manual car drivers are very confidential and can handle any cars without any problem. Automatic cars are for fainted heart and handicapped 🤣🤣. The most fastest cars in the world are Manuals. Automatic transmission cars are for cruise ride and most useful in long traffic.

Not it's not, don't try it, it will stress you if you just recently learnt how to drive. You will change your clutch many times. Why go through that stress when you can ride easily with Automatic. But if you are a pro rider and you are buying a very smooth manual car and like to go racing on Abuja streets at night, manual is good to go.

your post shows how naive your are about automobile. Do you think that automatic transmission is a new invention? For your information, automatic transmission is almost as old as manual.

The thought of burning the clutch frequently as a first-time rider is their fear. He will overcome and adapt to clutch timing if that is the case, but as an experienced driver, I would prefer shifting gears 4 d thrill!
