Thank you very much. Instead of the people to be sober, they are jumping up and down. What you should be asking yourself is what is the carrying capacity of those universities versus the number of applicants? In 1981, we had one federal university in lagos state, one in kaduna state and one in sokoto state Today, with a population of over 20 million lagos state still has one federal university and the other one still barely commencing academic programs and some people a knocking their heads on the wall that they approved another university for lagos state Now juxtapose this with old kaduna state now kaduna and katsina 1. ABU 2. NDA 3. Air force 4. University of education 5. University of Kachia 6. University of medical sciences katsina 7. Transport university 8. Federal university katsina Now look at sokoto state 1. Usmandan fodio University 2. Federal university birini kebbi 3. Federal University Gusau 4 University of agriculture zuru 5. University of heaith sciences Tsafe You will collect cit from lagos, fiam it goes, you will collect vat from lagos fiam it goes, you will collect customs duty from lagos fiam it goes You will now leave their children to be fighting for admission coming out with bloodied nose most times yet no admission whereas people in kaduna state are strolling into the universities as if they are walking in the park Cut off for medicine in most sw universities is about 280 while in kaduna state you are good to go with 240. Nursing is about 270 in sw and like 210 in the federal university in the north. Parents are now forced to have a recourse to an exorbitant fee paying private and state university So why are my people rejoicing? AustineE1: |

datola:What do you mean what is LASU. Go there and see those who scored over 300 in UTME studying. They go for inter uni competitions and beat Federal Unis hands down. Do your research and stop wallowing in ignorance. |

Saladdin:Go to LASU and do your research. To get admitted into LASU IS no joke. Many of the students admitted into competitive courses scored 300 and above. LASU has prestige. Stop living in the past. Levels don change. |

Thank you. That's the ignorance that I don't understand. I still recall attending a wedding in one of the rich parts of Ibadan several years ago and many of the kids along that axis were in UNILAG law, medicine, engineering, accounting, computer science etc alongside the expected large number from UI, Ife and Ilorin. I was surprised as these are Ibadan born and bred guys. Even their current governor in Oyo State was a local homeboy who chose UNILAG engineering. Digmygold: |

Digmygold:Hmmm...I just asked a simple question and you immediately put up a defensive posture. I never said that the university has low/no prestige. I totally have no misgivings about LASU. Not at all. What got my attention was when he made that bold claim that LASU has what NO federal and uni in Nigeria possess. When I asked what's that, did you saw any reply from him? I simply asked that what set it uniquely apart from tier 1 unis in Nigeria and the guy refused to give any single reason. For instance, if someone asks an UI, UNN or ABU student or alumni, what's sets the uni apart, they'll start giving you many features and USPs (true or not) right off the bat without telling me to go on a a 60-days data gathering exercise inside the campus to get those features. That's the premise of my question, just one USP and not him making indefensible claims and fleeing when questioned. |

DesireV:you think FUOYE is more prestigious than many second generation federal universities? Is it even more established than ekiti state university? No! The simple reason it has far more applicants than ekiti state university is that EKSU's fee is three times higher than FUOYE. You think if afe babalola fee is cheaper than FUOYE ekiti people won't flood it? It's more about affordability. It's not exactly the same way in the east. |

Armaggedon:I don't think, I know. Your reasoning is wrapped in tribal supremacist colouration rather than the obvious and facts. With your argument, do you mean good private universities in the East have more Igbo students than UNN,UNIZIK and co? A rich man, irrespective of tribe, will seek the best education for his children anyhwere. This has absolutely nothing to do with tribe. As low as literacy level in the North seems, Baze and Nile universities in Abuja are dominated by Northern students. Rich Northerners pay huge to send their children to schools in Egypt, Turkey, even Sudan. FUOYE as we type is more prestigious than a lot of second generation universities. You can make your findings. Go to the campuses of those schools on the list, you can conveniently say something loudly in Yoruba and get a random person to answer you, even those outside the SW. That you claimed Easterners form the highest population of students in SW private Unis confirms your ignorance of the topic. You clearly have not been to any of these schools before. I seriously doubt you have been to more than 2 tertiary institution campuses before. You obviously lack the necessary exposure for the discourse and I'm sorry I won't reply your further mention. Go to any good private institution anywhere in this country, Yorubas are very many there. They are the most numerous in those expensive ones in SW especially. Once again, If you want to lure the Yorubas, simply build a school where you want them to be. Not only in Nigeria but anywhere on this planet, they do education best, they have hacked it. |
