Nothing like spreading it. If she's taking her drugs regularly having sex with her is safe. That's what retroviral drugs do, it'll bring the viral loads down to a level it won't be detected after 6months to 1year but when you stop taking the drugs, it'll increase again. Only that someone who knows her status won't want to sleep with her without protection.
You're right. But she may not be careful enough to constantly take her ARVs in order to bring the viral load down to an undetectable level. That's the problem most of them have. She once told me she registered in a remote clinic so people around her won't notice. Due to this, her work schedule often clashed with her engagements with the clinic. She skips it most times

Kudos to the Hausa people on this
When will the moral of not kidnapping school children be a dominant factor in the north ?

Benue, Edo, Imo should be number one to Three or the info is fake.

19 amongst 20 girls in Benue, Edo, Imo are positive.

I don't believe this news

I believe that traveling and other forms of interaction musy be a factor. Meanwhile the north is not as innocent as some make it to seem
Those affected by HIV in the North are actually people who are naturally from Southern Nigeria. If State of origin is used to compile this list, some Northern States will have zero.

These are the ones bold enough to seek for treatment. What about those who hide or the majority with unknown status?

It is concerning to see how some areas are being heavily affected by social and health-related issues. In my view, factors such as the breakdown of community values, risky lifestyles, prostitution, casual hook-up culture, and lack of accountability may be contributing to some of these problems.

No it isn’t. Reason why the figures are low there is because of stigmatization and unwillingness to get tested.

Ndi hiv campaigner! I thought they told in 1996 at a townhall in one of Ogun State towns that hiv would have reached 80% of the population by year 2000?

That's the main problem, in Nigeria settings you can't let people around you know you're HIV positive and that's how it is in most African countries except maybe SA that a girl can openly tell you she's positive. Many people are even afraid to eat in the same plate with them, once someone in the street knows unless the person relocate.

Yea, the stigmatisation is still evident here due to low infection rate, unlike SA where 1 out of every 10 persons is positive. The antihiv vaccine will be a great relief for those who are reckless with their sexual pursuit

DesireV:
what has innocence got to do with the number of people living with HIV?

Unprotected coitus with an infected partner is just one of the many ways of contracting the virus.

It's a shame that you as the op of the thread has such a distorted and stigma promoting notion.

If anything, you expect regions with high polygyny, illiteracy, and poverty rates to have higher numbers.
Marriage to an infected person who doesn't know his or her status makes it easy to quickly spread it to others in that household.

Sharing sharps (local barbers, circumcision, unhygienic body piercing and acupuncture which are all very common in that region), transmission from mother to child (North at higher risk because of low level of status awareness and high rate of home
leading to low PMTCT uptake).

Equating HIV prevalence to promiscuity or "non-innocence" isn't only primitive, it's evil, and promote stigma which increases the disease burden.
Oga lets face it. Promiscuity is a MAJOR favor for the prevalence of HIV. Why are you trying to change the narrative? The correlation you are trying to draw between HIV and poverty is minimal. Benue with the highest prevalence is not the poorest state. What of FCT..what of rivers are they poor states? Promiscuity stands tall in the table of reasons for the prevalence of HIV.

northerners try to make it seem like you are not promiscuous..on we know better. Beneath that hijab and burqa lies a body enmeshed in immorality and when I say northerners I am not talking religion I am talking about tje north in general including Muslims... Christians and trados. Stop make it seem as the prevalence of HIV in the north is as a result of poverty or PMTCT in general.

Mind you I am from the north and I have stayed most of my life in the north so spit another narrative here. There is a high increase in sexual activities among northerners hence the increase in hiv prevalence. You can't run away from the truth however it hurts.

We're are they supposed to be when you have 36 states with 19 northern states.....using pry. School IQ the probabilities that you will have them among top 30 states is like 100 % now..
If you understood my point, you wouldn't have replied with this.

By the time you view it from a religious and environmental angle, you'd understand better.

Why and how is it mind blowing sir?
Looking at it from a religious standpoint and the so called morals of the northerners, you'd see that it's mind blowing that they have such high numbers of invected people.

Religious and moral standpoint of the Northerners as how?

Look at the figures again and show us the "high numbers" of infected people again.

You so not have any point with that submission unless you want to say Benue, Nassarawa, Abuja are Northerners besides the figures doesn't break it down as ro who amd who is carrying the virus. The Lagos figures for instance could be for any of the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.

Why are you so arrogant and annoyed?

Simple question you turn on anger mode.

By the way what is the percentage of people living with the virus in your village?
