I know absolutely nothing about cars and wanted to get my first car... I always loved 2013-15 Honda accord.... All my hope was on a friend who's been in car business for about 5 years now and knows his way around.

I went to where he is and we looked for a direct Belgium car, he did all the necessary test and assured me it was a good car... The person we were getting is from is also his business network of friends.

I made the whole payment without doing any test of my own because I know nothing.... We did drive test and everything and the car was okay.

On getting to my state I just decided to Google the Cars VIN number, I saw it online where it was in USA, turns out it seemed the car was used for Taxi in USA... While other than the headlight which was damaged in the VIN page it has no issue.

My concern now is the mileage... It has more than 200kmiles on it already... And via my small research such cars are bound to fail anytime.

I paid 13m for 2015 honda accord not to talk of transportation to my state which is 600-900km away from Lagos which te driver is saying he will take 700k to drive it to my state, not to talk of commission I paid my guy

My question now is was I scammed?

I've been depressed since last week
Your guy wasn’t sincere with you. You were supposed to ask questions here before you go for the car. 700k to drive a car to any part of Nigeria is a rip off

Thanks for this.... I'm also concerned about the resale value.... Assuming I decide to swap or resell... Won't the buyers use the mileage as a way of down pricing it?
Mileage is never a problem if a car was routinely and properly serviced. And I assure you that most cars used in the US for taxis are owned by companies that service their fleet at authorized dealers workshops that use OEM parts. That said, you will only face problems if you don’t keep up with the routine services or start using fake oil. Once you change your engine oil with original FULL SYNTHETIC oil bought only from filling stations, you can drive any Honda or Toyota until 750k miles.

And you didn't had in mind what to check, so you can ask him about it.
It was when you paid the money and the car delivered to you, you remember to do research and got to know about the mileage of the car.
One of the most important thing you should have asked before Making payment.

It's alright.
Leave that guy, e never ready

u should never trust anyone or even a friend 100% even if he is into the business u must have ur independent verification process unless maybe u have been doing business with him and he has always delivered a good job.

Yes u paid abit much for the car but the going rate is about 13/14m for a Fulloption EXL with double screen accident free and fair miles. i believe that's what u got?. The EXL or touring?

Transporting it was also much and shouldn't be more than 400k/500k

Settling ur friend is at ur discretion.

That 700K to drive it is ridiculous. It should cost just 250K at most and that includes petrol. It's a days journey

Congratulations! You were not scammed. The mileage is not bad. It depends on maintenance. Forget the low mileage thing. Some are not real but tampered

I understand your fears, me too I am a driver and can drive that car to your destination for less. But like you said, you need serious verification of the person.
Or better still send someone you know very well to travel with the driver.
But that 700k is damn too much.
250 or 300k should be ok
Re: Have I Been Scammed? by senator2k9(m): 4:23pm On May 21
That 2013 Honda accord is a machine that can even drive up to 400k kilometers on it if properly maintained. You were not scammed bro

The car also have a good resale value

As a first timer you should have sought an advice first.
200k miles on honda is nothing if it is well maintained.

13m is ok

700k is insane!
Re: Have I Been Scammed? by McLizbae: 8:25pm On May 21
If the 200k mileage is the only thing that is making you ask this question, I will tell you to rather be grateful to you guy. You weren't scammed!

200k milage on 2015 vehicle is very okay and normal. As for failure, a vehicle can fail anytime, even a new vehicle, especially when abused or ill-maintained.

Just maintain you new car and relax..

lol

Indeed you don't know anything about car

A car is as good as its last servicing not milage

For a car of over 10yrs old, you should be worried if the milage is less than 100k miles

You should focus on engine sound and regular maintenance not milage

The only possible scam I see here is the 700k delivery fee. As for the 200k miles on the car, well I can tell you from experience that you have nothing to worry about. That car might be healthier than most rolled back cars you see out there.
All in all, you have got yourself a "machine" and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Please don't abuse a Honda, otherwise you will regret ever buying one.

Cheers 🍻

You got a good car, forget about the millage, so far thr engine is performing well

That Milleage can be adjusted to 150 Milleage and you will not know

After your first service, make sure your mechanic adjust it to 200 Milleage then it will be fine in your mind
Re: Have I Been Scammed? by chukel(m): 11:07am On May 31
700k to transport it to your abode? Do you stay in Ghana? Thus is criminal. Nothing wrong with mileage of 200k so long as it was well maintained.
