Defeating Insecurity Requires More Than Firepower by Estello(op): 5:12pm On May 28
The recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State has once again drawn national attention to Nigeria’s security challenges, triggering public concern and widespread reactions across social media platforms. While such incidents naturally generate fear and anger, they also often create narratives that overshadow the extensive efforts being made by security agencies on ground.

According to military authorities, in response to the incident, swift moves were made directing immediate reinforcement of security operations in the affected area, deploying aerial surveillance assets and specialized ground troops in collaboration with other security agencies.

It also suggested ongoing operations are already yielding valuable intelligence as troops intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe recovery of victims.

Beyond the headlines and online commentaries, the reality remains that security operations against kidnappers and criminal networks are complex and intelligence-driven. Across the country, troops continue sustained offensives against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements under difficult and dangerous conditions.

While public frustration over insecurity is understandable, security experts warn that exaggerated narratives and misinformation can unintentionally create panic and undermine public confidence. Criminal groups often exploit fear and media amplification to project strength beyond their actual operational capacity.

As troops sustain surveillance and ground operations in affected communities, the incident also serves as a reminder that defeating insecurity requires more than firepower. Public cooperation, credible intelligence sharing, and responsible communication remain critical in supporting national security efforts.

For many Nigerians, the expectation now is clear — not only the safe rescue of victims, but continued evidence that security agencies remain proactive, responsive, and determined in confronting evolving threats across the country.

Insecurity is the doing of the govt, playing politics with the lives of citizens

Arm rural communities with automatic tools and watch this madness ends 📌💯🙌👌

Nigeria needs a replica of the USA second amendment

The amendment reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Re: Defeating Insecurity Requires More Than Firepower by Stephen0mozzy: 5:26pm On May 28
A whole lot of reorientation.
And we need to as a society deincentivize these criminals.

Criminals are outlaws, they shouldn't feel safe or free to come into society and be treated as celebrities - we all know what I'm talking about.

Also, government has to show strong will!
Religious and traditional rulers MUST justify their "reverence" by speaking out to call a spade a spade.

Secondly, we need to stop this bad habit of reactive military or police action - we need intelligence to step up their game and act on intelligence way before it occurs.

Lastly, more than firepower, but that firepower is IMPORTANT. You can't have a dialogue of peace with your enemy who has the religious and financial incentive to plant a bulleth in your head with a gun.

IT NEEDS MORE FIREPOWER THAN ANYTHING. DON'T LET THESES GUYS FOOL YOU.

You need to see the kind of weapons and power that bad guys operate with. Sophisticated stuff. And you want to tell me that a force that once went for peacekeeping across several countries is terrible all of a sudden? Abeg! Shift!! ;

Even the available firepower is not being used. I believe APC has agreement with these bad guys because I don't understand how large the bush in Oyo is that it cannot be cordoned and penetrated. With the Air Force watching for movement with drones and other devices.

I hope the FG, state government and local government will look into this and do the needful.

Donald Trump should convince Tinubu to open NRA-backed franchises in Nigeria. He’s a businessman. He can’t pass up such profitable opportunity. When bandits find out civilians can match them firepower for firepower, they will return to farming or look for physical labour jobs.

Even fire power have u tried it and let's know if it won't work? U allow criminals run amok on the whole country and u are petting them with kids gloves and say it will take more than fire power. Where is the fire power? Have u used it?

If not that igbos think the military is compromised and refuses to join army... sending igbos in the Nigerian army to fight terrorism would have yielded good result.

You're taking too much. NSA and other security agencies and toothless dogs. They only exercise power on innocent civilians. The government of the day enjoys these killings because it's not affecting their family members. They use the lives of these innocent children and people kidnapped and killed everyday as chess. May it never be well with anybody who supports this government for it's atrocities against Nigeria and Nigerians
Re: Defeating Insecurity Requires More Than Firepower by Babatunjo: 7:33pm On May 28
Yeah.

The criminals must be guaranteed that, either capture or being killed, and rescue of victims is their sure end... Otherwise the business continues.any ransom paid is like paying for their motorbikes, guns, and fuel for the next kidnapping of Nigerians.

President Tinubu, and Governors, show strength and wisdom.
Re: Defeating Insecurity Requires More Than Firepower by marlow1962(m): 8:20pm On May 28
Nigeria insecurity is government sponsored.

You can't kill something the government has hands in it and are making millions from it.

Insecurity in Nigeria is here to stay permanently.

Only the citizens have the veto power to put an end to this rubbish the senior citizens of Nigeria are doing.

But as long as the government has already installed tribalism among the citizens, and that tribalism have grown into a big tree and passed down from generations to generations, it will be hard (never possible) for the citizens to have that veto power.

After all it takes 1kg of rice to buy their constitutional rights.
Re: Defeating Insecurity Requires More Than Firepower by MemoriesAndMe: 8:31pm On May 28
But starting insecurity only needs firepower, right? If everyone is allowed to own guns in Nigeria, herdsmen, bandits and so called terrorists will be calm and look for a profession.

Na only them get madness? Everyone is angry already, why add to someone else's misery by kidnapping their loved ones because you have a gun and they dont?

You see this security issue ehn... It may just never be resolved.
The chain of people benefiting from it is just too much! From your government officials who inflate the ransom fee demanded by these terrorists in other to have their own share of the national pie, to the security personnels who also collect their own share on the way to deliver the ransom, to the average random citizens who collect their own share either on their way to deliver the ransom or by other means, then to the sponsors of the bandits/kidnappers and then the kidnappers themselves....
Omo, the queue of beneficiaries too long for them to want it to stop!!
Only a genuine brutal leader can stop this thing. Cause normal normal, we are finished as a people!
When them say an average Nigerian is corrupt as fxck! You think say na joke?!!

These idiots knows what to do but only God knows why they have not. I used to believe the budgetary allocations for defence that they steal or the fear of having new militants groups from armed communities after ending the insurgency is the reason. But looking around,no country with insurgency challenges have armed rural communities to stop these criminals. Is their something they know that we don't
