You will need to go there with your child as its first passport and they will be doing biometrics for him.

Question for the house: what is the best way to tackle an unresponsive agency?

In April 2025, I worked for three weeks with an agency called Barker Ross. Being fairly new to working in the UK at the time, I did not understand the importance of getting a P45 from them when I left. Moved onto other jobs and I thought all was well. Not until early this year when I realised I was being overtaxed because HMRC believed I had two jobs. I requested for the P45 and it was sent; however the exit date was put as May 2026 instead of April last year. Since then, I have sent emails, called them, sent some more emails but no response. How best do I get this sorted?
HMRC PAYE helpline: 0300 200 3300
Call and tell them you have an incorrect leaving date from a previous employer, and they are unresponsive.

Thank you.

Zahra29:
Hey, it's helpful but by no means essential to have a P45 from your previous employer when you start a new job. If you don't have a P45, e.g. you may have lost it, you can fill in a new starter checklist form at your new job which will be used to calculate your tax code
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/starter-checklist-for-paye

If you are concerned that your pay or tax amounts are incorrect, you can use the below service to update relevant details, and/or inform HMRC of any changes. HMRC should then contact your previous employer if necessary and ask them for the correct details.

In this conversation about life insurance I hope people are taking into consideration that it’s something that’s intended to come into effect in case of an unexpected death while still ‘young’ and when one still has dependents, not when all your children are grown and have struck out on their own and are capable of fending for themselves in your absence.

It’s not an investment you’ll be looking to get returns from, just like your car/house insurances are also not investments you hope to ever have to get returns from.

The notion that the best way is to spend your money with them while you’re alive is good but do you know how long you’ll be around to continue making money and spending it with your family on an ongoing basis? In short, life insurance serves a completely different purpose.
It’s for if you die in an accident or have a heart attack at 30, 40, 50 or 60-something years old. What will your family eat? How will they pay off the mortgage? How will your wife/husband be able to care for the children on their own in the absence of your income and your input in childcare etc?

For people who have enough assets that can be disposed off to fund things like that (eg you have investment properties separate from your main residence or a substantial shares portfolio), you might not need life insurance.

For everyone else, please don’t allow the mindset that ‘they will get money when I die’ to prevent you from paying the 15 pounds or so per month to ensure your family doesn’t suffer unexpectedly soon.
Its an investment in some ways because your family will cash out at some point

I rather put that £15 or £20 into s&p 500 monthly or in Equity fund in Nigeria than life insurance . Don't worry i will be careful so as not to die in an accident or have heart attack.

Oh, I see where you are coming from. Your first paragraph says it all.

You can't stand making an investment that someone else will benefit not even your own family. Na waa ooo, I comot cap for you grin

1. Is your home insurance an investment?

2. I’m sure you will be careful not to burn your house down by mistake. Will you stop your home insurance because of that?

Again in some ways its an investment , if i burn my house down i will be getting some money from the insurance company either for the content or for the actual house.

Yes, not the first protest this year, and I'm sure you're aware that there were also multiple protests last year of a similar nature, mostly targeting asylum accommodation/seekers. It's now become a recurring theme since the 2024 Southport riots/protests, and it looks set to continue unfortunately.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're going on about, and I don't mean to be rude but it does sound slightly unhinged.

My advice would be to ask this on one of the numerous Reddit housing /property investing sub pages - you'll definitely get broad perspectives and solid insights to help you. All the best.
class act per usual👏

I trust you'll keep saying your piece. It's very okay and madt fun to be 'dangerous'...

Not just '' some money ''.... So long as you're fully insured, you get '' all of the money,"" to rebuild that property + cost of '' all the contents'' refunded..... 😉🤣

personally think SpaceX is overvalued. Much of its valuation appears to be based on the assumption that it will become a global juggernaut and maintain a dominant position across multiple space-related industries globally.

While it undoubtedly has a significant technological lead today, many countries are becoming increasingly cautious about relying on U.S. companies for critical infrastructure. As a result, I doubt SpaceX will be able to capture as large a share of international markets as some investors expect. This is very different from the dot-com era, when U.S. technology and software were adopted globally with far fewer concerns around sovereignty, resilience, and strategic dependence.

I also think geopolitical fragmentation is likely to persist long after Trump leaves office.
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Fred2020:
If the EU which is the probably the most US-centric region isnt willing to wholly accept it, Space X will not have the outsize market share it is envisaging when other companies put in enough payload in space to start operating.

Same way europe deliberately opened its market to chinese EVs to dilute Tesla...will be worse for spaceX as europe is now even more wary of the US & even Elon Musk

I also think it's overvalued as well and agree that SpaceX's market share will likely not outlast Mr. Trump's term by much (of course no-one knows how long Trump might stay as president, given that it seems anything goes in US politics these days). But it might make a good buy in the short term.

The awful news coming out of Belfast today could be one more trigger. The Irish are quick to take action, so there could be a repeat of 2025 on the horizon (exactly one year ago, strangely enough). Sometimes one wishes they'd bring back the death penalty for such egregious and public offences.

If only the death penalty was enough deterrent.....

It's not worked in America, Singapore or the Emirates...... 😂🇸🇬🇺🇸🤣

Ironically, many of the most extreme crimes and security-related offences are often committed by individuals who entered through immigration routes other than skilled work or student visas. Yet public and political attention frequently focuses on the latter groups.

Most people are unlikely to spend £25,000 or more on visa fees, relocation costs, and education only to jeopardise their future through criminal or extremist behaviour. Likewise, those working long hours, paying taxes, supporting themselves without recourse to public funds, and managing everyday financial responsibilities generally have little time or incentive to engage in radical or unlawful activities.

When the british public understands this, they can better tackle the issue from its root cause

Will they ever agree? That’s the multi million dollar question! It’s a lost cause as far as am concerned!

If they ever reconsidered the death penalty....... Peter Sullivan's Case, would be the reference point, why they would NEVER reconsider the death penalty.......... ☠️❤️
