8starmember:Exactly my point, maybe it's because a majority of the traders there are uneducated, you for instance did not even understand what i wrote and already being passive aggresive. Fact is there is no way a young woman can go by her self to a place like Ladipo without getting ripped one way or another. |

Freshandfitpod:As much as I am not justifying the acts of nigerian mechanics, we have to be Frank with ourselves on one thing. Labour is ridiculously cheap in nigeria. These mechanics know that Nigerians don't have the culture of paying decent fees for labour, so they have also developed a culture of budget padding. Like, there's no way a mechanic will give you a quotation and not add his own. In fact, if you want to make it impossible for him to add his own, he will rather tell you to go buy by yourself. And the moment you fall for it, he will make sure the repair doesn't yield result just so he can fault your decision to buy spare parts yourself. But really, you can blame them as long as they don't over do the padding. Whenever I use the services of a mechanic, I feel guilty paying them small money for all the labour and going under the car, getting dirty and all. The same thing one would pay heavily for in developed countries. It's a dicey game between car owners and mechanics. U need frog eyes. |

Many of these guys, especially the young ones can be very wicked and heartless. I remember the day I took my car there, there was this man they were fixing his car also beside me. The mech guy went to buy a part, he came back saying the price was 28k. The man paid him. Later , another mech there went to buy the same part for 14k. I could remember some senior mechs there almost beat that young mech for that wicked act. The funny thing is, the guy stood his ground and said "na business." My advice to anyone going to fix their car at Ladipo, do not go there if you don't know anyone there or recommended to someone there. Nowadays, I prefer not to go there at all. |

Stomoney:They're simply go to the west sort damage and abandon vehicles on scrap yards, bring it to Nigeria and fixed for temporary use, then sell it to Nigeria... Hence you'll be lucky to have whatever you bought from works for a month |

RealityKings1:Her type no dey trust brothers or boyfriend. But she'll trust the mechanic who is doing his own business. The rule of the game remains that you invite the mechanic to come inspect the car in your location. He will bill you, call the market in your presence without negotiating, the material he will get in the market for 10k after negotiations, he will collect 20k from you. But your best bet is that you pay him the 20k for the material, pay him transport to the market and still pay him his workmanship after he finishes the work. He will surely rip you off some thousands. but trust me, he doesn't want you to have issues with that fixed stuff so you don't end up seeing him as incapable. But if you choose to either buy material for him, or follow him to the market, he will double the ripping. Trust me, I've dealt with them and I'm speaking from experience. 95% of them are like that. |

Not every mechanic or engineer is truly skilled. Some people may take advantage of you simply because you own a car. That is why you have to be very careful about the mechanics you entrust with your vehicle and not assume that everyone has your best interests at heart. |

8 HelenaWills:Nonsense talk, as a car owner you should learn and understand the basics of car engineering, if your car is overheating you know the thermostat is malfunctioning or a water pipe is leaking, not startnig either battery or starter motor. One should understand these things so when there is a problem you know exactly what the issue and the cost of parts required to deal with it. The problem with womenn is that they refuse to understand their cars and can easily be scammed. If the brake is not catching one can tell a woman the ECU is gone rather than just changing a simple brake pad. |

Fujiyama:Eg? In all my years of driving all sorts of cars, I have never seen one that works like that from factory. Yes some cars, if their factory setting has not been tampered with will automatically turn on the fans even if the engine is off, the keys out of the ignation. This happens when the system detects over heating. The fan runs and then goes off automatically when the engine cools. But where you will open ignation and fan immediately turns on is a sign of kamoru, Ayo, Lateef Rewire. |

It’s good to know about cars so no mechanic can deceive you. Also buy a small obd scanner to scan your car for basic error codes No mechanic can deceive me like this. |

nedekid:^^^ Toyota Land Cruiser 2UZ FE (V8, 4.7 litre) Toyota Sequoia 3UR FE (V8, 5.7 litre) Both engines also have an 'auxiliary' fan between the vehicle grille and the condenser - this auxiliary fan comes on intermittently when the air con is in use. But the main fan that cools the radiator (i've forgotten the jargon used to describe it) immediately comes on and stays on once the engine is cranked. It is built that way from the factory - and Kamoru, Ayo, Lateef and Kazeem were all banned from the factory premises a long time ago so it couldn't have been them. ![]() |

Fujiyama:You need to diffrenciate between belt driven fans and the electrical ones. Most rear wheel drive vehicles which of course use streight engines ie engines facing the radiator uses cooling fans attached to pulleys attached to the crankshaft Eg you 504, parthfinder, your trucks etc. Some are electro magnetic meaning they roll freely and use a magnet to energize the fan when the temperature rises. That landcruser is an online engine mount and uses the fans mounted in a pulley attached to the crankshaft. When you start the engine the fan rolls with the movement of the engine, for models sold in temperate regions, an electrical fan is added as a condenser fan to aid the Ac. So basically when you turn on the Ac the electrical fan comes on. Infact some of those landcrusers do not come with the electrical fan. Now you also have vehicles with transversly mounted engines, infact most smaller front wheel dive vehicles are made this way Eg your Toyota cars, corolla, camrys, honda, Hyundai etc. Because of how the engine is installed, you cannot have fans mounted in the crankshaft, so you then have to have electrical fans, usually 2, one for the Ac and the other for regular cooling. How this works is when you start the car both are off, when the thermostat picks the fan, or fans comes up or when you turn on the Ac it activates the Ac fan or both. Now the abnormality which is the topic of this discussion is when your local rewire now bypass the thermostat and bridge the fans to work permanently, ie once you open the ignation, the fans comes on and works at a constant speed until the ignation is turned off. Most local mechanics will do that claiming our region is hot and it will help the cooling of your engine. Big mistake!. That is what you call a classic case of abuse. Infact most proper mechanic workshops will not touch a vehicle whoes fans have been made permanent, they will tell you to go and return it back to stock before bringing the car to them. And yes, I own that landcrusers v8 (2UZ FE) so I know how it works, I also own a Honda v6 suv with a transversly mounted engine so I also know.

nedekid:^^^ Good points. nedekid:^^^ That's exactly my point. The owners of those V8s were very concerned after reading horror stories about "fan bridging" or "direct connection" on this platform. As far they were aware, no one had tampered with their vehicles - and yet upon cranking, their radiator cooling fans would immediately come on. Something wasn't adding up. The popular view here was (or perhaps still is) that any engine whose radiator fans come on immediately once cranked - has been abused - and that view was what got the 2UZFE/3URFE duo very worried. Whereas...there was absolutely nothing wrong. The main fan just rolls once the engine is cranked - as the wizards who designed it wanted it to. Most owners of these specific motors don't know about the finer details of mechanical fan clutches and fans 'rolling with the movement of the engine'. They are far more likely to come across troubling stories about fan bridging and other forms of 'Kazeemization' - and panic sets in - when in reality there's nothing to worry about. |
