That happened because Dangote and Otedola had an agreement that they would not get involved in the same line of business.

However, Otedola wanted to buy Texaco's assets (for his Forte Oil) and Dangote knew this, but Dangote's cousin, Sayyu Dantata outbid him (for his MRS Oil and Gas).

Otedola believed that it was Dangote that used Sayyu to outbid him.

Furthermore, Forte Oil shares suddenly tanked and Otedola believed that Dangote was behind this, so they had a falling out.

Dangote was really behind it! Otedola sued Dangote and some Stock brokers for trading shares of his company low everyday. Such that the price was always falling! There was also accusation of bribing his chef to poison him!
