Illimitable:I also had the same thoughts as Carragher. I like my CBs tall, strong and fast. I know Cannavaro wasn't tall strong or fast as well but CBs with that profile are fewer and less likely to succeed. |

MRTA7:Has Martinez really been a successful signing? He had one good season which was in his first and hasn't reached that same level again plus he's very injury prone. |

MRTA7:Our focus should be on our midfielder who is already succeeding |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by odizeey(m): 5:16pm On Jul 05 |
Bombblacks:The only issue he has had is injury. Apart from that he's a good signing. Nothing to do with his height |

I’m starting to suspect that reaching top 4 wasn’t on the agenda for last season. It feels like the unexpected top 4 achievement has made them confused all of a sudden. The whole saga has made me believe that the management were never prepared for this. They are clueless, uncertain, and unprepared for signing players that are better than the ones we currently have. No one can confidently say what our approach is so far, and I don’t think the management team can explain as well. I understand the decision not to get rinsed over any player, but beyond that, I just don’t understand what they are trying to do. My fear is that they will buy average players during this transfer window which will set us back by some years. Average players… average coach… average management team. At this stage, we might be aiming for 7th position next season. |

Reports are saying Ederson to United is off. Fabrizio or Ornstein yet to confirm it though. |

Bruno Fernandes has had a shocking WC. But I guess you can say the same for Vitinha and Joao Gomes who so much was expected from. |

MRTA7:I am really worried. I hope it’s because of the players around him in Portugal, and not something else. We need these guys with their football brains intact abeg. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 11:34pm On Jul 06 |
nitrogen:I think it’s fatigue plus Martinez’s incompetence. He played him out of position with no runners in the forward line. Portugal’s campaign on a whole was bad. That’s why Bruno isn’t the only underperforming one. bitinha and co also sucked. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Seunpapa65: 11:46pm On Jul 06 |
Na today I confirm say world class midfielders can come together and comfortablely play nonsense Make everybody rest Las las |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 3:13am On Jul 07 |
Leyqute:Not sure it’s fatigue, as there are other players that played more games than Bruno during the season. I agree with you though re Martinez’s incompetence. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by CrystalTiger(m): 7:12am On Jul 07 |
Leyqute:It's not fatigue..These are midfield players that we just saw dazzle the entire world not up to two months ago for their respective clubs..All of them can't just have lost their football senses in just three weeks.. Martinez is worse than an average manager..Very silly clown.. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 8:04am On Jul 07 |
Leyqute:Fatigue catch nearly all the Portuguese players but e no catch players from other countries? Hehehe I can’t illustrate how rubbish Martinez is as a manager. He is the killer of dreams. LOL |

Portugal should have hired Jorge Jesus before the world Cup... |

Roberto Martínez had both Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes, two of the ultimate creative machines in football, yet won absolutely nothing with them. Blame the manager, not the players. |

obonujoker:ronaldo also didn't help matters his insistence on playing every minute cost portugal too stubborn some would say the manager should have talked it out with him or imposed his will but cr7 is 41 years old play 60 minutes, go rest for the next game in 4 days, and let others contribute to the team this is not 2010 or 2014 when the team had glaring holes this roster is stacked and you're 41 have some self-awareness ronaldo's stubbornness meant bruno had to play, because he is the most creative player if both had to play the only two options are 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-1-2 that martinez never tried 4-3-1-2 is proof that he is a terrible manager luiz enrique has vitinha and neves and always pairs them with fabian even though he has a superb attack line that gegenpress portugal had a superb roster that could have been used in a variety of ways but ronaldo sucked all the oxygen out of the room and limited the setup options this world cup was a huge missed opportunity for portugal in hindsight, they should have appointed a different coach, but the nations league win bought martinez more time. same happened with santos. his nations league win bought him time to go to qatar. usually, i'll say ronaldo is unlucky but this time, he did himself no favors -Lord |

Ronaldo way suppose ACCEPT OG roles and play 5-10 minutes substitute role. Robert Martinez Cristaino Ronaldo All those useless Midfielders are the top culprits LordAdam16: |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by LordAdam16: 11:47am On Jul 07 |
Sportsweb:maybe he thinks there is an extra medal for playing the full 90 plus extra time at 41 extremely selfish of him starting is not even the issue 60 minutes in, spain is outplaying portugal, go rest and let the coach make tactical changes or worst case, defend and take the game to penalties as for martinez, less said about him the better the goal came from man marking failure it had happened multiple times in the match including the first oyazarbal chance that should have been a goal portugal's wc campaign was a perfect storm -Lord |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 11:52am On Jul 07 |
LordAdam16:So, Ronaldo made Bruno and the other quality midfielders to only pass around, sideways or to the back? He also asked the wingers to not bombard the opposition box with crosses? Is this the first time that they played together? First it was, pressing from the front, now it’s Ronaldo that prevented them from playing attacking and effective football. I don’t think it makes sense. He was just one player on the pitch. As much as everyone wants to blame Ronaldo, the fact is, the midfield play was shyte with Bruno and co deciding not to turn up. And the only reasonable explanation is that Martinez messed up another good team at the global stage. |

nitrogen:i am a fan of ronaldo but age has caught up to him he still has the leap and he is still the greatest finisher but he is not that dynamic anymore i don't even think he had a bad game yesterday it is just that in a wc knockout game, the coach should be able to try different approaches and cr7 made that impossible i firmly believe the game would have gone to extra time if ronaldo had been subbed off at the 60-70 minute mark would portugal win? maybe not but at least everyone would have played a role and there will be an acceptance that the team did all it could instead the game winner against croatia never played a minute of a game that was 0-0 in the 90th minute that makes no sense how many minutes of this world cup did trincao and ramos play? let me put it simply portugal's wc campaign was a disaster for several reasons i'm not saying it is all on ronaldo personally, i think mendes not being fit played a bigger role in their underwhelming performance and a different coach could have made cr7 stubbornness a moot point i'm only saying ronaldo's stubbornness made it impossible for them to explore all the many different ways the team could have played the next coach should sit with the portuguese fa and tie cr7's call-up to willingness to not have veto power over when he starts or is substituted at this point, it is better to lose without ronaldo than to lose with ronaldo yes, we're finally here otherwise, in two years, he will still be demanding he plays 90 minutes against france in the euros at 43 while getting walloped 5-0 -Lord |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 1:35pm On Jul 07 |
LordAdam16:Does he really have a veto right? He does not like it when he gets substituted or benched, but it should not stop any manager from doing so. ETH and even the previous Portugal manager did it. I believe the main reason he keeps starting for Portugal is that other forwards have not necessarily proved themselves with Portugal. It is a tricky situation. Unfortunately, the future is bleak. Not sure Portugal can/will win anything tangible after him. Some key players including Bruno are already 30+. Let’s hope they somehow turn up in 2028 and 2030. |
