In all my decades on Earth, I’ve met only two people who married their first choice.

With men, the women either ran off due to perceived hardship after the engagement or situations made the likelihood of a future together impossible. The most common reason I keep hearing is her parents either canceled things or demanded too high of a dowry.

With women, the man impregnated someone else, got tired of waiting, or turned out to be already married, wasting her youthful years.

Did you marry your first choice?
No and got God choice for me

How is it that traditional marriage doesn't mean religious marriage but your white wedding is religious?

If you think traditional marriage is not spiritual, then you're either in denial or just choosing to play dumb... Traditional marriage is also spiritual as it it involves the unification of both the groom and the wife's ancestors, therefore, spiritually binding them together.

And according to your understanding, what is a fetish practice?
amoco:
There is no sane adult who doesn't believe in traditions. Every society has traditions and the people who make up the society are expected to follow the traditions which often aren't always fetish or demonic or evil. Marriages, family pattern and structures, respect for elders and leaders, worship systems, farming systems, market systems, educational systems, dress patterns etc form part of traditions.

Overtime, traditions change and evolve with enculturation and acculturation. It's normal.

There is no culture anywhere that has not been directly or indirectly diluted by another.

To your question, traditional marriage doesn't mean fetish or religious marriage. It means marriage according to the customs of the people like bride price or dowry payment, settling of the inlaws and all parties involved, seeing everyone involved, fulfilling all demands or almost from the village etc. It has nothing to do with deity but more to do with the way of life of the people.

Christians are from a place and when they follow the pattern of their culture in this, that is what is called traditional marriage.

"an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (such as a religious practice or a social custom"

Wifie was the first and only babe I dated in the university.

Met her Year 2, second semester.

We don't even know when we started dating.

We were a popular couple in the College of Health Sciences that year.

3 lecturers attended our wedding.

Come August 23rd, we'd be 12 years - 4 kids: 2 boys, and a set of twin girls. Oldest child will be 11 by September, youngest and the last will be 4 by August.

In these 12 years, a lot has happened. We both went on to get master's degrees in our fields (I, Human Physiology, she, Public Health). After my MSc, I went to medical school earning a degree as a medical doctor in 2023.

Wifie has been my strongest support system. If not for her, I would have failed out of medschool. God really used her to guide me.

Today, I'm the luckiest man alive!
This is beautiful 😍.

God bless your home.
We don't always end up with our first love...and that's not a failure.
Research and therapists alike say many people marry their “second choice,” and in most cases, those relationships are actually more stable, supportive, and enduring.

May we marry the person that love us and the one we love ❤️
He didnt say first " love " for a reason..he said first choie... because most of our first love are during our teenage age..at tht stage we are aren't suited for marriage

It's impossible to separate religion with tradition. Whatever we assume as "Christian culture " is basically someone's tradition. Christianity never said tradition is bad, unless if someone is hurt in the practice or another god is worshipped

Alot of lucky folks here. I didn't marry my first, second or third choice. I actually married the Fourth. The first wanted me to marry her so bad but I wasn't ready yet(I was 27 but very comfortable with a fantastic job then). The second I was so much in love and was ready to marry but she was not ready so I left. The third was very violent so I ran away till I met the fourth

Isn't worshipping another God also someone else's tradition?

I didn't make him do anything, I just blocked him and ceased all contact with him.

And no, he never hid her from me, in fact, he was with her the first time we bumped into each other at a restaurant after about four years of no contact.

But Christians also worship an idol, which is Jesus... And there are traditional rituals and occultic rituals, know the difference.

Every traditional practice is religious and spiritually binding the same way as Christianity is spiritual.
Arostar2023:
Most traditions are not inherently devilish or ungodly (with respect to the Christian faith). So long as the tradition doesn’t involve idol worship or occultic rituals it may be compatible with Christianity. There’s a difference between traditional religions and traditional practices.

How do you snatch a full grown adult with a full mental capacity to reason?

In short, you snatch someone boyfriend and ruin their relationship

Re: Did You Marry Your First Choice? by Samantha125(f): 9:15am On Jul 18
He'd have obviously consented to it because you can't forcefully take a full grown adult with a full mental capacity to reason without his consent.

It would hurt, but at the end of the day I'd choose my peace by walking away and letting him enjoy his new woman since he'd have been the one who'd have chosen to break our marriage vows... Besides, it's not every marriage that is meant to last.

Not true. Tradition is when cultural practices are followed dogmatically or religiously . Not every traditional practice is religious and spiritually binding in my part of Nigeria. And I don’t know the Jesus you are referring to as an idol. It can’t be Jesus Christ the son of God, who died to save you from your sins. The one who came to show us the way to the father. He is the one your ancestors without knowing were trying to find albeit incorrectly.
Re: Did You Marry Your First Choice? by Samantha125(f): 9:41am On Jul 18
Jesus is an idol, making you guys also idol worshippers...🤣🤣🤣... Him being white doesn't make any difference...😃😃😃... Many of our forefathers were killed and forced to worship him when the colonisers arrived in Africa.

And how is it that not every traditional practice is religious and spiritually binding but every Christianity practice is religious and spiritually binding? make that make sense to me.

Traditional marriages in Nigeria does not mean fetish or idol worshiping.

It means meeting the parents and the villagers/community of the bride, carrying out celebratory ceremonies like gifts exchange, palm wine drinking, parties with cultural wears, getting to know the intended families etc all depends on the cultures / tribe of the bride.

Basically, it's just introducing yourself to the bride’s people and celebrating with them as it were in the olden days, before the white man introduced the culture of being wedded in a church
