And DaveP, this is one of many foul calls ignored. This one right here was a penalty in the first half. The Ref did allow Malawi get away with too much to be honest despite us having our own issues with how we set up generally et al.

To be frank, at the World Cup, such plays wont go unpunished.

The ref acted like one on instruction to let the malawians rough our girls up afterall we have 10 titles.... that is what it seems like.

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by TheSuperNerd(m): 12:25am On Jul 29
I will be honest with one fact in Malawi's plays. On the world stage, they wont score 3 goals in this way because a lot of the fouls ignored today, perhaps because it is vs a team that always wins in Africa... wont be ignored on the world stage.

They may seem direct but they are also very very rough in their plays and it would be punished so much outside this continent.

Schemerkhiz:
My take: Malawi has shown football can be played in a different way. Not making 10 - 15 passes to get to the opponent's goal. For Malawi 1 long ball and our defence + keeper are all over the place.

Super Falcons are playing without a clear tactical identity. The formation is only on paper—on the pitch, there is no structure, coordination, or clear game plan.

Honestly, I am deeply disappointed. As a football coach and someone who has followed the Super Falcons for years, this is arguably one of the worst performances I have ever watched from the team.

The NFF needs to take a serious look at the technical bench and address the tactical direction of the team. We have talented players, but talent alone cannot win games without proper organisation, tactical discipline, and a clear playing philosophy.

Something needs to change. 🇳🇬⚽

I just rechecked the 2018 Wafcon run and sorry but there may be a de ja vu on the cards... grin

🟢2018 Wafcon...

Nigeria loses shockingly to SA in first game by a slim score of 1-0.

Zambia thrashes Equatorial Guinea 5-0 in first game.

Next game for Nigeria was against Zambia and we won 4-0.

🟢2026 Wafcon....

Nigeria loses shockingly to Malawi in first game by a slim score of 3-2.

Zambia thrashes Egypt 6-0.

Nigeria's next game is against Zambia...

Time will tell... wink

TheSuperNerd:
Selection... Playing Alozie out of position. She could hardly even support the attack as she naturally does on the right.

Selection... Playing a CF like Ihezuo on the wing.

Tactics/Selection... Going with a Single defensive pivot instead of a double pivot.

Approach... He did not even strictly signal to the ladies to calm the pace down and play "our game", our way

Subs... He realised some of his tactical mistakes too late.

I will add another... Aura... Madugu's big belle does not help matters for me. grin grin Okay, I am being funny. But truly I want him to succeed again even though we seriously need a coaching upgrade.

I mean, I am not a Pro Coach but I anticipated and expected an Ayinde/Ucheibe or Abiodun double pivot to kick off this wafcon defence because of those Chawinga speed demons but he stunned me with 1 DM pivot and 2 AMs. I just did not want to complain but show support. I mean who knows? It could still pay off. Unfortunately, it was not so.

In the end Point is, I should not be knowing better than a professional coach in games like this. It does not speak well at all. I really hope Madugu taps into the same tactical instincts that made him a Champion and turn this around coz it is in his hands.... not mine, not yours, not Randy's... it is in his. Every decision he makes for the next game either dooms him or saves him.
😂😂😂😂😂😂

The funny part is even if he makes this team go far, vote of confidence will be absent. I dunno how to explain it. We can't be having such a clueless coach like this for world cup moments against teams like France, Spain, England, Korea, Japan, Brazil.
That's the grand stage and will have no time for shenanigans and excuses like Wafcon.

Infact it is because of the 10 titles many are not worried about this embarrassing display and coaching right now.

Justin Madugu brought Glory Ogbonna to the WAFCON abi?

So why oh why, in his infinite wisdom did her start Michelle Alozie as a left back, where she was clearly out of her depth? 😂

If you knew you were not going to use Glory Ogbonna, why bring her along? 🤔

Better yet, what happened to Nicole Payne and Chidinma Okeke? Can someone enlighten me why Ogbonna made the squad ahead of these two? 😃

Hehehehehehehe. Excuses everywhere. Una go cry tire for this thread. 😂

After how many years as assistant coach and na experiment he come do for 1st game. Chai.

Like who has EVER seen Alozie as an LB ever and played her there? What was going on in his head.

Like i said earlier. If he prepared well for everything else, he didn't prepare for the Chawinga sisters pace. Ohale has no pace again. She was also part to lame for the goals conceded tonight mainly because of lack of pace.

We wan play highline but CB no get 🛼🛼 for leg ke?

All these paragraphs cus of one loss? Ewo

Where was this epistle when they won last title? I’m not saying you’re wholly wrong but this feels very reactionary. Wait till they crash out at the group stage before you drop this banger

NasirIbnLaAhad:
If we're honest with ourselves, this is exactly what Nigerian football needs right now. Y'all don't want to hear this but this has nothing to do with Malawi. This is about the rot that sits above the pitch. The administrators. The politics. The endless cycle of underfunding and overpromising that has followed the Super Falcons even as they've somehow kept winning trophies despite the system, not because of it. Ten WAFCON titles won on the backs of players who train without pay, camp without proper facilities, and qualify for tournaments the federation barely bothers to prepare them for.

So yes, I want this loss badly. I need us to crash out of the group stages if that's what it takes. Because a Falcons side that wins yet again, papering over years of neglect with talent and grit alone, hands Gusau exactly what he needs walking into the NFF elections: a trophy to point to, a "see, everything is fine" argument, a shield against any real scrutiny of how this federation is run. Every Falcons triumph becomes his talking point, even when he had almost nothing to do with it.

A humiliating exit changes that math entirely. It will strip away that cover. There will be no more championship banner to hide behind. No more "defending champions" headline to deflect the hard questions. Nigerian football needs to hit the floor, publicly and undeniably, until there are only two paths left standing >>>

(1) Scrap the Nigerian football programme altogether, or
(2) finally take the bull by the horns and rebuild it properly, with real investment, real structure, and real accountability. From the men's team, to the women's team, to the age grade, from U-23 to U-13.

Another trophy managed by mediocrity just buys the status quo another four years. As long as NFF continues to take our football for granted, the Super Falcons and Super Eagles must fail. Because sometimes the bottom is the only place from which anything actually changes.

Remember i said that by now we suppose don get level say this wafcon no be our level again after our last World Cup outing. But with such display, we are back to square 1.

3 of the players that made that World cup click are now about to retire with no similar replacement (Oshoala, Ayinde, Ohale)

Reactionary? That's cute. FYI, nothing that happened today surprised me. I saw it all coming a mile away. In fact, the moment I knew this team would flop was precisely that game against Benin at home where we labored to a 1-1 draw. Prior to that, the game against Cameroon where we lost to their home based players. Now back to the WAFCON, how did we prepare for the tournament? How many players do we have in this tournament presently that are actually fully fit? How many of our best legs did we actually bring to the tournament? Did players like Ordega and Isah truly deserve to be called up ahead of players like Nicole Payne or Flourish Sabastine? How is Madugu's backroom staff like? How come he and his team are so sluggish reading games and implementing changes? How many high profile friendlies were we able to execute before this tournament?

This is why part of me feels annoyed that we won the last WAFCON, as it has blinded people to the obvious signs of the decay in our women's football. As long as we're winning games, all is fine. To hell with continuity, right? Long term planning be damned. Let's just rough it up and get the results now. Tomorrow can wait. Abi? How long are we going to continue living like this? Do we forbid to be as organized and intentional as Morocco?

Anyway, like I said, I really do hope Nigeria lose out on the ticket. If that's what it will take to get rid of Gusau, then it's a positive start. Let him leave the seat so we can understand what to do next.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by TheSuperNerd(m): 1:17am On Jul 29
None. Highest has been 2 goals.

Since 1998... Only Equatorial Guinea (2x in 2006 & 2010), SA (2022), Ivory Coast (2014), Ghana (2000), Cameroon (2004) and Morocco (2024[held in 2025]) has scored 2 goals in one game vs The Super Falcons. No team has ever hit 3 in one game until Malawi.

This is a rarity. A fluke. 😅

Does Justin "The Maestro" Madugu" even have a tactical identity? Cos for the life of me, I don't know what it is. 😂

We know Eric Chelle's diamond system. What is Madugu's own system/blueprint/philosophy? Is it hoof the ball up, scramble for second balls and inshallah? For crying out loud, does he even have tactical sessions with these players?

We really missed Plumptre in that game. Oladipo’s passes in the transition were not that good. Plumptre might not be physical and can be easily dribbled by quality players but she’s good at interceptions, passing, transitions and reading the game.

I know the girls will bounce back cuz last nite was a rude shock to them

Talking of officiating and use of VAR I am utterly disappointed. I am beginning to believe VAR is being used for betting purposes
How can VAR check the handball that gave the pen and failed to check the hacking down of Esther in the box?

Bad officiating is ruining football!

Post-Match Analysis- Nigeria 🇳🇬 2️⃣vs3️⃣Malawi

Goalkeeper
I have NO iota of blame for Amaka- she is the same WSL outstanding Goalkeeper with Brighton and Hove Albion and unarguably the BEST in the World. The formation, choice of players to execute, non-existent midfield and defence all exposed her. In a bid to make up for a collapsed defence, she was forgotten, her "safe haven" her 18-yard protection, and we all paid dearly for it.

Defence
There was nothing about the defence that shocked me; we already went with Isah of Israeli Division 2 ahead of Nicole Payne, who plays in the best Female Football League in the World. I still need an explanation for why Ogbonna, whom Randy retired 3 years ago, made this team when Madugu cannot trust her to stand in for Imuran. Once Plumptre was injured, it became a red flag that we needed two solid LBs, but Madugu chose a player he isn't confident in to stand in, overtly relying on Imuran until Karma caught up with him.

I have NO blame to put on Alozie for any reason - she is primarily a Right Winger whose game was modified to a Right Back. Michelle is upwardly Mobile and has no business being drafted into an unfair position, knowing that spot would receive maximum bashing. Naturally, gifted LBs would do better with the help of a Left Winger like Babajide.

I have made it clear Oladipo should be drafted to start filling in for Ohale, but "The Older The Better" thinks otherwise. Shukurat needed a seamless transition for such huge shoes, but the coach isn't bothered about a succession plan. Ohale has paid her dues; that's why I made a 3-5-2 formation to factor her in if the coach insisted on her experience, but it was always obvious we can't do a 4-woman defence with Ohale in a competitive game.

Midfield
Ayibde remains a trusted war horse, but it is crystal clear she can't Marshall the midfield without a double pivot to provide extra cover
Again, Madugu chose to expose her and played Ajibade in an unfamiliar position, a move we all saw did not work at the last WAFCON. The midfield was begging for Toni Payne, who was kept on the bench until the Malawians got their confidence against us. My Formation suggested we played and won from the midfield, but a tactically inept coach made sure the same midfield was complicit by his formation and choice of players.

Forwards
I lay every blame at Madugu’s feet because his choice of forwards at WAFCON2024 finals that ensured we conceded two goals, made Okoronkwo labour for balls by dropping deep, overworking her in the process, played out again.

Ihezuo, who hasn't played any game since a major injury, mysteriously got called up despite not being fit or in form and started ahead of Rinsola Babajide, who is in hot form from club antecedents and would have acted as a double shield for Alozie whilst helping Esther with remarkable passes into the dangerous areas.

I'm glad Ijamilusi whom some of you threw darts at me for was properly exposed by Madugu by handing her the Number 9 shirt. How did she merit a call-up from a league where we have no idea what happens? A player with questionable final third balls and who won't offer anything as a forward in competitive games. Nigerians saw ball to hand at last wafcon as validating her call and those tap-ins could have been scored by a grandmother. You see why I continually said she would have left China if her football has improved but a lot of people who talk about the game have no business having an opinion.
Realistically we took only 5 productive forwards to this WAFCON out of 9.

Salute to Uchenna Kanu whose work spoke for her ahead of WAFCON. From Hat-Tricks to breaking club and league records, it was crystal clear she was unfairly kept on the bench for an unfit and out of form player. The impact she made in less than 30minutes will make you question the competence of our entire technical crew for keeping such an high impact player on the bench. She scored a goal and had another cleared on the line.

Whatever happened last night was no surprise to some of us, what came as a surprise was how everyone suddenly started claiming they supported me and believed my analysis all of a sudden. So who are those noisemakers who were developing mouth diarrhea on my page?🙄

Football will disgrace you if you try to cut corners but reward you if you put in the work , that is exactly what we have seen with Madugu and his fellow racket players who has no iota of business being in a successful team like Super Falcons.
Madugu never learns anything from his outings because he has no business being a coach for starters.
