Sambo to Tinubu: ‘It’s Not In Your Place To Tell Nigerians If INEC Is Neutral’ by iwaeda(op): 10:14am On Jul 29
The Director of News, Arise News, Sumner Sambo, has urged President Bola Tinubu to stay away from defence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Sumner wants the President to understand that it is not his (Tinubu) place to tell Nigerians if the electoral umpire has been fair or not.

Sumner said this in response to President Tinubu, who on Tuesday defended INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections, rejecting concerns regarding the electoral body’s impartiality and accusing political oppositions of making baseless claims about the Commission.

The President expressed these views during a meeting with the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, headed by its President, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, at the State House in Abuja, as stated in a release by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Following the Catholic bishops’ appeal for his administration to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in 2027, which they described as a key legacy expected from his government, the president reiterated that INEC has maintained its neutrality and has not coerced any political party or candidate.

Tinubu said, “INEC is neutral. They have never intimidated anyone. If political opponents are raising alarms, perhaps they are merely fearful of their own shadows and the uncertainty surrounding their affiliations, not me.”

In response, Sambo told Arise News, “It is not the place of President Tinubu to tell Nigerians if INEC has been fair or not.

“Nigerians need to see fairness from INEC. INEC needs to distance itself from the government or people close to the government so we do not have a situation where people misread pronouncements from the president.”

Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, are the major contenders in the 2027 presidential election.

Tinubu becoming the spokesperson of the INEC is the confirmation of the allegation that the electoral body is partial in their operations. Before you know it, they will join those who are singing the song, "Tinubu on your mandate we shall stand". He who pays the piper determines the tone.

President Tinubu's reelection don't require rigging, bribing or intimidating. The projects are there to campaign with.

The opposition and their supporters can continue to chose not to see the efforts of this government, the Nigerians who are experiencing it have their own thoughts about this government.

So many unprecedented projects under this government which the opposition can't deny but they have been insincere whenever they are talking about this government

So it's okay for you to accuse them of obeying Tinubu but Tinubu doesn't have a right of reply?

When INEC said they are fair and will conduct credible elections, did you believe them?
When the Supreme Court justified them, did you believe? Na only you sabi, sabinurse.

Workers salary delay , Zero under this government

ASSUU strike, it should be the lowest, not sure it's up to 3 months

Even the opposition themselves can't remember the last time they queued to buy fuel

Before asking are these achievements, of course yes because the masses are the beneficiaries of the effectiveness.

The same common man can't deny all what I listed above. That's why I have been advising the opposition and their supporters to be mindful of how they undermine the efforts of this government in the presence of those who have benefitted from it or experiencing them

This is the evidence that INEC is not free from government interference....who will believe that a candidate of a political party will turn himself into the spokesman of a supposed independent electoral commission

I have never seen anything you write as reasonable. You have never appeared on topics that showed the actual decay in the system, you always shy away from those topics but when it comes to things like these you are always quick to comment. Like I said, you never have anything reasonable to say.

Improve your mental capacity of reasoning rationally and logically.

He would have said.....my govt and party members are not interfering in INEC and we will not interfere during elections, our policies, programmes and achievements are campaigning for us and have already endeared us into the hearts of electorates.

It's almost impossible to see another, true democratic like Jonathan again.
