See What a Student did with NELFUND Upkeep after Receiving the Money
@YemmyAj's post mocks claims that NELFUND is a scam by sharing a TikTok video of a student celebrating receipt of a 60k Naira upkeep allowance, complete with praise for President Tinubu and dancing in front of his portrait.

I'm sure these good northerners think the money is free money like tradermoni, farmermoni, ricemoni and other monies baba Buhari gave them for free There's nothing a Northerner hates more than being asked to pay money back to the government. Go and check out what happened with the student loans of the 70s I hope world war 3 will not start when these guys start getting debit alerts after they graduate Besides, all I saw in the video is a guy cleaning Tinubu's photo with a napkin. Is Op saying the guy did a frame of Tinubu with the nelfund money he got? ![]() And you'll expect him to pay back |

blamingthedevil:Pray for God's blessings first I'm sure you need it more than Tinubu Then pray for God to bless those poor students who are rejoicing over 20k a month that they'll be expected to pay back. These are the folks that need God's blessings in their lives Your present prayer is hypocritical and not from a pure mind God doesn't pay attention to the prayers of hypocrites |

Kukutente23:Thank you. We also pray that one day God will grant Blueprintless Peterthe wisdom, clarity and courage to answer the questions he keeps avoiding. Will he scrap NELFUND? Will he retain it? If he retains it, how will he improve it? If he scraps it, what exactly will replace it? How will he fund free or cheaper tertiary education without returning Nigeria to unsustainable borrowing or higher taxes? The difference is simple: with President Tinubu, Nigerians can point to what he has done and debate whether it is right or wrong. With Peter Obi and Atiku , we are still waiting to hear what he would do differently—and, more importantly, how he would pay for it. Politics is not won by condemning every policy. It is won by presenting a superior, costed and credible alternative. Until then, "I can do better" remains a slogan, not a governing plan. |

| Re: NELFUND: Student Celebrates With President Tinubu's Picture by Kukutente23: 10:36am On Jul 30 |
CharlesCNG:Unfortunately I'm not Peter. But Nigeria's borrowing is presently unsustainable and no one even knows where the money is going. I just noted yesterday that Tinubu has not equipped the military with even a single aircraft since he took office. All the aircrafts they are using and taking delivery of are those from Buhari administration. As for if nelfund should be scrapped, I certainly think so. It is not sustainable. The 1% allocation for it should rather be given to the schools and tied to specific projects and research that will attract more grants to our universities and make them more self-sustaining. The fees are too high. They should be reviewed downwards. I remember Tinubu proposed to scrap TETFUND until the senate rejected it. TETFUND should be futher empowered to build more infrastructure and facilities in our tertiary institutions. Students loans have generally failed in the West. I don't see why we should replicate it with our high corruption index |

| Re: NELFUND: Student Celebrates With President Tinubu's Picture by CharlesCNG: 11:05am On Jul 30 |
Kukutente23:Unfortunately, much of your supporting argument does not survive fact-checking. Nigeria's debt burden remains a serious concern. However, the picture is more nuanced than you are suggesting . When President Tinubu assumed office, debt servicing was consuming almost all federal revenue, leaving very little fiscal space. Since then, revenue growth and reforms have reduced that ratio to roughly half of federal revenue, while longstanding obligations such as the foreign airlines' trapped funds have been substantially cleared. So, while debt sustainability remains a challenge, the claim that "nobody knows where the money is going" is an exaggeration. Borrowing is tied to published budgets and approved projects, even if Nigerians are right to demand greater transparency and better value for money. Your aircraft claim is even weaker. It is true that some aircraft delivered under Tinubu were ordered during Buhari’s administration, including the T-129 helicopters contracted in 2021. But it is false that Tinubu has not equipped the Air Force with a single aircraft. By December 2024, the Nigerian Air Force reported 12 advanced aircraft acquired under the administration, including King Air, DA-62, T-129 and AW-109 platforms. The administration also initiated the purchase of 24 M-346 fighter-attack jets and 10 AW-109 Trekker helicopters. Inherited procurement and new procurement can exist simultaneously. On NELFUND, abolishing it is a legitimate policy position—but reallocating its funding to universities does not solve the student’s immediate problem. A laboratory project may improve the institution, but it will not pay the fees or upkeep of the poor student who is about to withdraw. That is like renovating a hospital while sending the patient home because he cannot afford admission. The present law provides NELFUND with 1% of taxes, levies and duties collected by the federal revenue service, alongside appropriations, repayments and investment income. It is therefore not simply a loose “1% allocation” that can be transferred without changing the law and replacing the support students currently receive. The TETFund claim contains a half-truth. The original tax-reform proposal would eventually have removed TETFund’s share of the new development levy by 2030. That proposal was rightly criticised. However, the National Assembly rejected the defunding arrangement, and the final 2025 law retained funding for both TETFund and NELFUND through the development levy. Tinubu did not simply issue an executive order to “scrap TETFund.” Finally, “student loans have failed in the West” is too sweeping. America’s mortgage-style loan system has severe default problems, but income-contingent systems operate differently: repayments rise with income and can protect low earners from unaffordable fixed payments. Researchers recognise both advantages and fiscal risks. The lesson is to design Nigeria’s system carefully—not to declare every student-loan model dead. By all means, demand lower fees, stronger TETFund investment and tighter NELFUND oversight. But abolishing the bridge before constructing another one leaves poor students stranded in the river. The real policy question remains: How will universities receive more funding while financially vulnerable students are kept in school—and precisely where will the replacement money come from? Finally, i say this, since i remember your moniker, support whoever is your candidate which obviously is NOT Tinubu. i will support my candidate which obviously IS President Tinubu. The Last time agree to disagree. but i always love the civil manner of our exchanges . |

To do propaganda for NELFUND 🤡 Awo wannabe faabu. They enjoyed free Western education during their time, for those who went to school but they come back now to give us loan

stan4b:No job,no paying back. It is an uncommon loan because you pay no interest If eventually you get a job paying #200,000 monthly, just #20,000 will be deducted from your salary every month. Parents have sold their properties with tears just to send their children to the university but Tinubu has come to their rescue and for your information,Tinubu is doing free education when he starts his second term. |

| Re: NELFUND: Student Celebrates With President Tinubu's Picture by Ritchiee: 6:31pm On Jul 30 |
SixSeven:Who amongst your thieving politicians come close to giving no interest loans to students and telling them to pay in piecemeal monthly only when they have the means like Tinubu? How many of them gave free technical colleges education to Nigerians with the payment of #22,500 free money every month like Tinubu? The list goes on and on that none of them can stand shoulder to shoulder with Tinubu in positive achievements.Their main job was to open border for cheap rice from other nations that were flourishing while they embezzle all the money they would have used for what President Tinubu is doing today. |

Let's just have a quick look at this. Seems like a good, straightforward argument for government support. |

Kukutente23:You talk as though southerners are any better, as if they won't take government money and think there is no obligation to pay back. Every youngster taking that loan thinks its a grant |
| Re: NELFUND: Student Celebrates With President Tinubu's Picture by Kukutente23: 7:02pm On Jul 30 |
SixSeven:What is actually driving the propaganda is because Nelfund did not pay the stipend for two months running until there was massive outcry from the students especially the northern students who were doing different videos on tiktok insulting nelfund. So this is a blowback to that negative outcry in the past weeks. APC thrive on propaganda. The way nelfund is being run is not much different from how they ran that ministry of disaster and used it to kill npower |
| Re: NELFUND: Student Celebrates With President Tinubu's Picture by Kukutente23: 7:04pm On Jul 30 |
Tingotoe:You know southerners are more easy to trace. For example, in terms of ratio, you'll have more southerners working in formal sectors than northerners after graduation so it will be easy for them to be tracked after they graduate. So if push comes to shove, more southerners can be tracked and made to pay the loans back than northerners. The funny thing is the majority of the beneficiaries are northerners |

Kukutente23:Oh, I didn't know about this outcry because I just thought it was their propaganda topic they gave their databois to spread. They are just crazy to be telling us to be clapping for what government is supposed to do. They will soon come tell me now that we don't pay tax but I have response for that one. In the 2026 Federal Budget, the Nigerian government allocated ₦3.52 trillion to education, which constitutes roughly 4% to 6.1% of the total ₦58.18 trillion national budget. You can see how budgetary allocations were increasing per year under PDP,which wasn't still enough per UNESCO standards until 2015

All these nonsense people. There was a guy here who shares a link where you can register for Tinubu youth employment programs. It was stated that you will be given a monthly stipend of 40,000 naira. Later the new came out that it was one time stipend of 20,000 naira. I registered for the program. It is over a month no news. When one of their family members receive alert, they will start disturbing our peace. |

A sitting President is telling the “Hungry citizens” that they created with their fraudulent reforms, bad economic policies and reckless spending to let their churches feed them. Nigeria has ₦155 trillion in debt, a food inflation crisis and bandits kidnapping children but hunger existed before he was born so it’s not his problem. They created this mess, they increased poverty level, the dropped middle class to lower class. The audacity of this man is genuinely historic and unfortunately, some people go still see this video, clap for him, praise him and still vote for him. SHAMEFUL! |
