@Marike2, congratulations on taking this step. Mature student profiles with a 15-year study gap are highly scrutinized by IRCC visa officers, but they are fully winnable if your narrative is tailored correctly. To answer your questions directly: 1. Jan 2024 admissions are heavily congested now, so you should immediately switch your focus to the next available intake to ensure a safe visa timeline. 2. A 15-year study gap is not a disqualifier, but you cannot explain it merely as "work years." Your Statement of Purpose (SOP) must demonstrate how your hands-on business operations created a direct knowledge deficit that only this specific Canadian PGC can fix. 3. IELTS is widely waived for secondary/tertiary education completed in Nigeria, but using the Nigeria Student Express (NSE) stream requires an IELTS score of 6 in each band for a 20-day fast-track processing. For regular streams, a clean waiver letter is sufficient. 4. Do not go for a generic business diploma. As a business owner, a Postgraduate Certificate in International Business Management, Strategic Leadership, or Project Management will align perfectly with your executive profile. Your application story must be completely watertight to avoid a "purpose of visit" refusal. I have sent a comprehensive documentation checklist and narrative outline to your Nairaland PM inbox so we can look at your specific profile privately. Check your inbox right now. Marike2: |

@StanOyiga72, a standard letter of employment alone is rarely enough for a Canadian study visa. IRCC visa officers frequently flag unverified job claims under the "Purpose of Visit" rule. To make your employment profile watertight, your application should ideally include your confirmation letter, recent payslips, and a bank statement showing consistent salary entries that match the letter. If you have already submitted, do not panic. If the review takes time, you can still update your application by raising a webform to upload these supporting documents before a decision is made. I'mplanning for my teenage son . Is it my own account on my name or his name is to be used for showing this POF . Which bank in Nigeria can Canadian dollar be saved so we can show the proof of funds. Planning is everything AbelAbdul: |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by franchasng: 9:12am On Aug 08 |
Enyinne:You don't need to save in Canadian dollars. You can do that in Naira account and a proof of fund of 60million to 80million is okay for one student. But if your son is going for postgraduate program, the money must be in his own bank account to be a strong and qualified POF. |

Guys, I applied on 13th of june and still never heard anything till this moment, school resumption date is august 27th, what can I do?
|
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 11:36am On Aug 08 |
Enyinne:My course is a Tech course. Nursing is a very good course and I recommend it. Is he going to use WAEC as English Test Cert? What is the purpose of the WAEC? If he is going as self-sponsored, every money should be in his account and every payment made through his acct. If he is going as parents sponsored then you can pay for him from your account as long as you can establish that he is your son. |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 11:40am On Aug 08 |
Enyinne:My proof of fund was in Naira and USD. When applying for study permit, you let the visa officer know that money you are showing as POF its equivalent in Canadian dollars. I had mine in USD and NGN and when I did my conversion it was 108k CAD. Make sure to indicate which platform you used for your conversion. |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Mavor: 12:32pm On Aug 08 |
Enyinne:If your son is young going for an undergrad course, then you can sponsor him as a parent as long as you include proof that you are his biological parent, parental letter of support for the Canadian studies and include your bank statements showing proof of funds and a detailed evidence letter for source of fund. The Canadians dont expect a young person going for an undergrad course, fresh out of high school/secondary school to have earned such an amount for self-sponsorship. Alternatively, you can put a Nigerian account in his name and get a notarized gift deed from you the parent to be attached to his student visa application including proof like birth certificate showing you are his parent and a parental letter of support for the Canadian studies. However, the logical way is for you to sponsor as his parent. |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 4:06pm On Aug 08 |
Enyinne:I am going for masters. I do not know how undergraduate degree works. The WAEC I mentioned was for English Test in my own case. Since it's undergraduate, he will surely need WAEC for both English test and as a cert that he has completed secondary school. |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by slimmsyyetty: 7:21pm On Aug 08 |
I understand your concern because of the school resumption date that is fast approaching. You can raise a webform or call them, but it doesn't still guarantee this will speed up your decision. Some April applicants are just getting their decisions while some are yet to. Keep being hopeful for a positive outcome while you wait. I wish you success palaurry: |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by slimmsyyetty: 7:59pm On Aug 08 |
Please, can I advise you, sis? Knowing the plans you have for him in advance, begin to study and watch how matured and independent your teenage son can be on his own if he is far away from you and begin to train him on independence, too. You may not necessarily let him know the plans you have for him while you watch his ability to adapt on his own and at the same time giving him some trainings in advance. If you are financial buoyant, you can accompany him to know how his environment looks like...orientation weeks, hia hostel, interact with his class mates e.t.c. Based on my experience, I have seen some Nigerian teens studying here that are doing perfectly well and are navigating here on their own, while some are still exhibiting sign of immaturity and are finding it difficult to cope with the level of independent world they are being exposed to because they lack guardian. I pray his visa be approved. Please, ensure you are updated abreast on his studies and anything called Canada...pr pathways, post graduate work permits, e..t.c. because of him once he lands here. Do follow up all the time. Get his time table to know when he will be having classes, if you can stylishly get the email address of his coordinator, his home address, volunteering activities, interact with him to know where he is having problems, get to understand his schedules, get his tests scores and exam scores. Tell him you are not only his mother but also his best friend and you should be the first person he should confinde in if he encountered any difficulty. In all these, don't let him know you are keeping an eagle eye on him. Based on my experience, it goes beyond sending your teenage children abroad. Any parent that wants to send any teenager abroad have a lot of follow up to do, depending on the nature of the child. Gos bless you Enyinne: |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by ATTAHDYE(m): 12:35pm On Aug 09 |
Hello Enyinne, Undergraduate admissions requirements is as follows: 1. WAEC Result (and NECO if he has it) 2. SS1 to SS3 Result Transcript from his secondary school 3. Data Page of international passport 4. He may need to write a study plan when you have decided on the course/school you want to apply for/to. 5. Scratch Card for them to check his WAEC/NECO result As for English Language requirements, most Canadian schools will accept your WAEC/NECO score in English, try to get at least C4 so that you can be in a better position. If he has no written the exam, my advise is for him to work hard and ace his WAEC/NECO For sponsorship, let the money be in the sponsors account. All the best Enyinne: |
