Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has said former President Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, governor, Godwin Emefiele, deserve credit for the successful establishment of the Dangote Refinery, rather than President Bola Tinubu’s administration.https://dailypost.ng/2026/08/10/buhari-emefiele-not-tinubu-deserve-credit-for-dangote-refinery-rufai-oseni/

Every day, you guys try to paint Buhari as a failure, but when a road is commissioned, we hear that it was Buhari who did it, now, Buhari is credited with the refinery. Does that mean you guys have been lying about the poor man? |

9jatriot:Legacy is achieved, not claimed. All the achievement bandits have been doing leading up to the election is claiming projects that were executed by Buhari. Record-breaking loans and Record-breaking revenues but nothing to show. 3 budgets running concurrently with only 5% released for infrastructure in 3 years. Beyond the propaganda and noise, where is the money going to? |

Leave all this your snake 'oye' grammar. Can we now claim that Buhari was not a bad president, as many of them have been trying to force down our throats, or is he only good when you want to ensure that Tinubu does not get credit for any project? AMINDA: |

Even dangote knows tinubu should get his flowers for the take off of the refinery.......he could have frustrated it or killed it entirely........I don't understand what rufai is fuzzing about, even tinubu as said it countless times that he inherited both the assets and liabilities of the buhari admin and have you ever heard him complain. |

9jatriot:They will rather praise Buhari because he's no longer there, and in their desperation to unseat Tinubu, Buhari becomes their new Angel Gabriel. Don't be surprised if they equate him to Mandela soon.. |

9jatriot:Buhari was the best civilian president who governed Nigeria as far as tangible infrastructural projects are concerned. He did all that while still paying all forms of subsidies and battling two recessions with covid 19 pandemic. Facts! It's Tinubu's lackeys who spent 8 years defending Buhari only to turn 360 to begin insulting him for 3 years. It's few months to elections and they are now back loving Buhari again while campaigning on his achievements. At least, other regions have stayed consistent in their opinions about Buhari. |

Thank you, this is close to what I want to hear. I hate it when that man is demonized. I know he had his fault but to hear people call him a failure is what I do not agree with. AMINDA: |

9jatriot:Data does not lie. No civilian president since amalgamation have delivered more projects than Buhari in terms of roads, rails, ports, bridges, and power plants. |
| Re: Buhari, Emefiele, Not Tinubu, Deserve Credit For Dangote Refinery – Rufai Oseni by 9jatriot(m): 1:25pm On Aug 10 |
One of them has already called him 'Buhari was the best civilian president who governed Nigeria '... I do not have a problem with that, as long as they stay consistent, not that tomorrow they start calling him a disaster. This issue is often a big trap for them, it is like between the devil and the deep sea for them, where they have no other choice but to give credit to either Tinubu or Buhari. Kemetian: |

This is a known fact na. Even some people said Emefiele gave Dangote all Nigeria forex to build his refinery. |

Buhari did lots of economic magic. Even when oil was 21 dollars per barrel, he was still committed to infrastructural expansion. I remember the Enugu/Onitsha expressway was extensively done before it was concessioned to mtn thru Buharis tax credit scheme, which this govt is trying so hard to claim credit for. Ditto Enugu/Ph exp way. Even the FCT city inner rail that Buhari commissioned in 2020 was recommissioned by this same govt just for political credits. How many times did Dangote publicly thank Buhari for the support he received from Buhari? |
| Re: Buhari, Emefiele, Not Tinubu, Deserve Credit For Dangote Refinery – Rufai Oseni by Svoboda(m): 1:45pm On Aug 10 |
Lithiumite:Trust me, that refinery had gone too far that, even though Tinubu was at first reluctant to grant Dangote govt support, he knew that denying him support and keeping the refinery inactive was inevitably going to backfire right in his face. For how long did the govt prevaricate before crude was eventually supplied to him from nnpc? Even Dangote had to turn to content creation to make his point that forces within the govt were frustrating him. The full credit goes to Buhari and emefiele. |
| Re: Buhari, Emefiele, Not Tinubu, Deserve Credit For Dangote Refinery – Rufai Oseni by helinues: 1:49pm On Aug 10 |
But this same Dangote already came out to explain how he was frustrated by some people in Buhari's government. So Rufai is telling us he knows better than Dangote himself. But my Ijebu people no dey reason or talk like the way Rufai has been doing now.. |

Svoboda:You think tinubu ended subsidy without assurances from dangote, you think those 2 are strangers to each other.......dangote himself kept adducing the success of the project to tinubu's unwavering support... .you really underestimate the power of the president, just one policy can bring that refinery down and dangote on his knees.......its funny you don't even realise that without subsidy removal that refinery would still not have taken off......he is the largest beneficiary of that policy. |
| Re: Buhari, Emefiele, Not Tinubu, Deserve Credit For Dangote Refinery – Rufai Oseni by Svoboda(m): 3:49pm On Aug 10 |
Lithiumite:Nobody is talking about subsidy here. There was subsidy when Dangote obtained license and began construction. The original Nigerian govt idea was to increase local capacity while subsidy is withdrawn. Even at that, one may ask what subsidy has even got to do with local refining when some countries with enough refining capacity still subsidize fuel for their respective populations. I insist that Buhari takes the sole credit. The licensing, construction, and commissioning happened under him, even to the point that it was alleged that emefiele sold cheap dollars to dangote. Tinubu could have tried to sabotage, after all, we all heard of the Malta blending controversy when Dangote was content creating over a lack of crude supply and fighting off rumours that his products burnt faster than the imported variant, until the govt ostensibly yielded to pressure. Yes, the president has enormous powers, no doubt, but there are blowbacks to major actions. We all saw him fold when he ordered the refreezing of the Osun state account. |

9jatriot:But Buhari performed better that this baron even though he is a failure to other government. Before him This is the worst government since the creation of nigeria. Dangote Refinery is a product of Buhari government. It is on record he commissioned it before the end of his tenure as the Refinery was already completed. The baron even refused to supply the needed quantity of crude to run the Refinery and instead was giving new licences for importation. Till Dangote declared war on them and went to even court |

Neither Buhari nor Emefiele deserves any credit, talk less of Tinubu. Dangote is a private businessman who has shown the desire to invest in Nigeria despite the frustrations and challenges he faced with the refinery. Nigeria has 4 refineries but none is producing and anything. How do u give credit to a government that can’t manage their own for a private investment that’s working. |

So, what exactly are Nigerians gaining from the Dangote Refinery? We were told that having a massive refinery operating in Nigeria would reduce our dependence on imported petroleum products, strengthen the naira, create jobs, improve energy security and, ultimately, make fuel more affordable for Nigerians. But we need to ask some uncomfortable questions: Has petrol actually become significantly cheaper for the ordinary Nigerian because of the refinery? Is the Dangote Refinery a government-owned facility or a private business? If it is a private company, why should Nigerians automatically assume that its success is the same thing as public benefit? And perhaps most importantly: Before the refinery, what was Aliko Dangote's net worth? What is it today? Forbes estimated Dangote's 2026 net worth at about $28.5 billion, while other recent estimates have placed it substantially higher. Meanwhile, the refinery is a private commercial enterprise, and recent reports indicate that it is being positioned for a major IPO that could value the business at around $40 billion. So the real question is not whether the Dangote Refinery is an impressive industrial achievement. It clearly is. The real question is: How much of the economic value created by this enormous investment is actually reaching the average Nigerian? If Nigerians are still paying heavily for petrol, diesel, transportation, food and electricity, then we must distinguish between building a world-class refinery in Nigeria and delivering broad economic benefits to Nigerians. Yes, the refinery has reduced Nigeria's dependence on imported refined petroleum products and has become a major supplier to the domestic market. But Nigerians have every right to ask: Where is the measurable public benefit? Has it reduced the cost of living? Has it substantially reduced pump prices? Has it created meaningful competition that benefits consumers? Has it reduced Nigeria's foreign-exchange burden? Has it increased government revenue enough to improve public services? Or are we simply celebrating the growth of one of Africa's largest private fortunes while ordinary Nigerians continue to struggle with the cost of energy? A refinery being located in Nigeria is not, by itself, proof that Nigerians are benefiting from it. What Nigerians deserve is transparent evidence, measurable economic benefits and accountability, not simply the argument that because the refinery is in Nigeria, Nigeria automatically wins. |
