Can we accept that other African teams have vastly improved.
Thats what i see and not so much a case of we have seriously declined.
The only fairly easy game was Egypt.

All this hate on Madugu and our indigenous players is disgusting.
it speaks of inferiority complex when we constantly only call for foreign coach, and naturalization of foreign born players as the way forwar.

Let's keep calm and support the team towards the playoff qualifier game vs south Africa.
People like you are the reason why Nigeria football keeps sliding backward. Your stupid fat coach went on air and defended the nonsesical reasons NFF gave as to why the SF didnt play any friendly matches before the WAFCON. "Because we are 10x champions other african teams are scared to play us" Was that not what Madudu said? This man is technically and tactically incompetent just liek ALL the local coaches Nigeria has today. Both Madudu and Maikaba were disgraced today at the same time. Instead of calling out the rot in Nigerian football you are here defending nonsense. African teams have improved yes but what has Nigeria done to stay ahead of the curve?? Nothing but empty boasting. Rubbish. angry angry angry angry angry Very soon Sao Tome and Somalia will be beating us in Football and you will come here to make excuses. angry

What exactly is responsible for Malawi's sudden rise in women football?

Did they make any massive investment in female football lately? Or is it the COSAFA competitions helping them?

Or are they just a flash on the pan like Eq Guinea?

Remember they almost eliminated the flamingos in world cup qualifiers.

It's posts like this that make me want to cuss people out! What do you mean by this rubbish? Are you this ignorant of how poorly run our football administration is?

Other African teams are improving. Granted. Is that why the NFF couldn't organize friendly games for these girls to get them fit and ready for the upcoming tournament? The few friendlies organized were against scrubs and plebs when we should have been facing teams like Italy, Argentina, Portugal or even Algeria and Ghana!

Your NFF can promise players 10k dollz per game but cannot spend money to organize friendlies or even higher a decent coach! Is that an NFF that plans for the future? We carried a farmer with no resume to the WAFCON and you're here spewing trash?!

Better open your eyes now and see that nothing good can come out of this current NFF administration. I'm sure clowns like you will still end up giving your vote of confidence to Gusau if the NFF elections hold!

Enemies of Nigeria!

Whenever someone says the truth it becomes hate…

Did you see people criticize Uche Ngozi Eucharia, Edwin Okon, Florence Omagbemi and Co as much as they do to Justin Madugu??

Are they not indigenous Coaches too??

Oga you ain’t inside the house so you won’t understand..

At least we will be humble!

For four years all I’ve heard from Ibrahim Gusau is “Inshallah we will leave no stone unturned😂😂”

Like how do this NFF officials promise the team $10k per goal but can’t put together a better salary budget to get a Quality Coach…

If you can give $10k for one goal then you should be able to pay at least $30 to 50k per month for a Quality Coach who’s willing and ready 💯 to coach the team..

Even with the $10k per goal nothing still come out.

Omor who do us this thing?? 😭
How does NFF get it fund?

To be clear the SuperFalcons NEVER got better throughout Madugu’s tenure.

Defensive solidity was the last thing Waldrum fixed and didn’t get the chance to do more cos it was completely chaos and sabotage post the world.

As Waldrum’s work wore away, the team kept unraveling… Even with almost the same player with Randy Waldrum was he able to play football..

We all saw how the falcons lost to Morocco in 2022 with 9players but we chose to use that against him and I was one of those who did earlier on until i came to reality…

The way Samuel Ahmadu criticised Randy Waldrum the other day on 99.3 Nigeria Info FM during Inside the NPFL, talking about Waldrum’s team, their performances and the fact that they hadn’t won the WAFCON, I just laughed. 😂

Now we can see that it was never just about winning the WAFCON.

You can win a tournament and still have serious questions about your tactics, your process and the long-term direction of the team.

Samuel was running his mouth that day as if winning the trophy was the only measure of whether a team was well coached. 😂

Well, here we are.

The Super Falcons have now crashed out at the quarter-final stage.

Maybe we should stop using trophies to shut down every valid criticism. Winning a trophy doesn’t automatically mean everything about the team is perfect.

Jokes on you now. 😂

All these Madugu journalists and Camp Content Creators mistake constructive criticism for hate. The failure of Madugu have been long coming but because we have quality players, it helps him paper over the cracks. Cameroon have humbled us. It's time to start a painful rebuild and start challenging again.

This card is the Nigerian Ace card of failures in sports in the last 2 decades. I stopped using it after 2014 myself. I realized na we dey do ourselves. It would have been better if we are learning from our mistakes and errors and setting then as the standard to never fall under ever again.

But No, we don't. We just keep recycling failure steps and expect different outcomes so we can Thank God.

The Super Eagles team is top 4 talented packed and loaded team in Africa yet them missed b2b World Cups while doing well on the Caf competition.

Same with last Wafcon until now.

I totally disagree with the boldened. That's a stale card to whip out as excuse for the obvious failures and neglect of this beloved Falcons team.

What does Nora have to do with the fact that you shameless coach got ran through by a Cameroon squad that technically shouldn't have even participated in this AFCON?!

What does Nora have to do with the fact that your Maiduguri led Super Falcons have gone from conceding only two goals at the World Cup against elite opposition to conceding a record 5 goals in the group stage of a regional championship against minnows and debutants?!

What does Nora have to do with the fact that your erudite Maiduguri cannot properly design and execute a game plan to save his own life?!

What does Nora have to do with the fact that your brilliant Maiduguri coach keeps playing players in positions where they aren't strong or are still growing into?!

What does Nora have to do with the fact that your Maiduguri coach is the first coach in the history of the Super Falcons to get eliminated at the WAFCON group stage and miss the Women's World Cup?!

Don't mind them, what catching up?

Nigeria is still miles ahead of the nearest competition just that this year is just not our year.

The Cameroon that defeated us yesterday were they better than us in the game. In fact, they know their limitations hence the reason they went ultra defensive. Nigeria gave everything, the ball just wouldn't go in.

For those saying others hv caught up, how many of the teams that hv qualified for the world cup can they vouch for to win a single match at the world cup?

Well based on nairaland logic of the last 2 years, Cameroon were the better team. Only outcomes matter.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by NasirIbnLaAhad2:
Alright, let's finally talk about what actually happened to the Super Falcons last night. Obviously I wasn't exactly shocked at the result. You reap what you sow, afterall. Nigerians and the NFF in particular, I hope, can now appreciate the meaning of this truism. However, I guess that was what made this result much more painful to me especially. The writing on the wall has been clear since the last edition where we managed to stumble on to a win, but Nigerians aren't accustomed to the virtues of patience over fast, cheap victories. Sometimes trying to be the voice of reason in these Nigerian football spaces is like trying to steer a rogue vehicle that is programmed to jump off a cliff. You have no choice but crash and burn with it as well.

The truth of the matter is that we are a part of the problem ourselves. Yes. In fact I'd argue with all conviction that Nigerian football fans are easily 60 to 70 percent of the problem in Nigerian football today, because we enable systemic failure with all joy and love to attack objective truth, thereby actively rewarding the NFF's incompetence and foolishness. A good example of this is the posters who ridiculously believe that we just want these teams to lose so that we'll have a chance to gloat. I wonder what I'd stand to gain arguing here all the time and "penning epistles" - as some of my critics would say - over a team that I desperately want to lose. It's honestly sad how many intellectually lazy and delusional football fans we have today "supporting" our Nigerian football. They only want you exhibit blind jingoism without question, and if you don't they say you're not a true loyal Nigerian football fan.

Now about last night's game.

Recall that Nigeria went into this quarterfinal having already conceded five goals in just three games. If I'm not mistaken, that's the joint-highest (with SA) of any team left in the tournament at the last eight. Our opening 3-2 loss against Malawi - debutants, mind you - was the first red flag of our cursed campaign. Then came a 1-0 "win" over Zambia that was really just a goalkeeping howler from the other side dressed up as a result. Then a 6-2 win over Egypt that looked good on paper to many here, nevermind that 3 of those 6 goals were penalties, and Nigeria still shipped two more because our defense was a shambles. Every single one of these games was screaming the same problem. Madugu treated them like unrelated bad days instead of a pattern, and Cameroon's coach Valentine Nguele - as weak as his Cameroon team really was - clearly did his homework and built a gameplan specifically to exploit that gap.

Now many folks here came down hard on Nnadozie for conceding that 19th minute free-kick beat her at her near post because the wall was disorganized and she shifted her weight the wrong way. Which begs the question: how does a team defending a WAFCON title not have set-piece specialists actively drilling these exact scenarios into the squad? Setting up a defensive wall against a free kick is one of the most fundamental elements of the game they teach you even at rookie level. Does this mean we never practiced setting up walls at camp? You mean to tell me nobody was there who could do this work?

Moving on, after the goal, Cameroon, who were actually not even that impressive themselves - predictably sat back in a compact 4-5-1 low block and dared Nigeria to break them down centrally, which Nigeria simply couldn't do. So what did we resort to? Over 25 crosses into the box. Because why not. Not third-man runs, not combination play through the half-spaces, just cross after cross, with occasional individual chances. Michaely Bihina, the Cameroon goalie, ended up having the game of her life with nine saves, 2.93 xG denied, and a 9.6 rating. You don't get that kind of goalkeeper masterclass unless the attacking team is playing exactly into your hands, and Nigeria did, repeatedly, for 70+ minutes.

I won't give any credit to Madugu for bringing in Esther Okoronkwo and Toni Payne later in the game, as personally, they should have started and not even been on the bench to begin with. This is Madugu's whole M.O. He's never proactive. And even with the substitutions he made, it still wasn't clear enough what our game plan was to break down the Cameroon low block. At a point I think we even started playing some sort of bizarre 4-1-5 that isolated Abiodun completely in the midfield which killed any chance of winning the ball back once it was lost.

Also, a quick word here because it matters. So apparently, Esther Okoronkwo's late miss is getting dragged online as "the reason we lost," and while I understand why people would think like this, it also sadly underscores how inept many football viewers are at reading the dynamics of a game. In the game, Esther chased down a long ball, beat her defender for pace, and placed her shot given the keeper had already committed to a full stretch save attempt. Should she have passed to Oshoala? Probably. But Oshoala was making a run from BEHIND her, not AHEAD or BESIDE her. No player has 360-degree vision. As long as you're on the football pitch, your spatial awareness is severely limited. Moreover it's silly to try and paint Esther as a selfish player when we know from past games that she's been one of the most selfless finishers for club and country and doesn't deserve to be turned into a villain because people online need someone to hurl their silly invectives at.

Same with Michelle Alozie. She's naturally a right winger who's adapted into a right-back role for both club and country and been genuinely excellent at it. At WAFCON, Madugu shoved her over to an unfamiliar left-back slot - a position that needs a natural left-footer - and she still won Player of the Game in one of those matches. Instead of asking why the coach put a right-footed attacker in a specialist defensive role she was never built for, people decided to make her the fall guy for a Cameroon loss. Nobody is also asking why Madugu didn't start Glory Ogbonna who's supposed to be the natural left fullback on the squad. Oh wait, could it be because Madugu deep down knows (like we've been screaming since) that she's past her freaking prime and shouldn't even have been called up to the Super Falcons in the first place?

As for Madugu himself, I don't think I need to spend any more words picking him apart specifically. I've made the case ad nauseam on this thread, and I'm not interested in re-litigating it. What actually deserves more scrutiny at this point - now that we've approaching the dankest parts of the abyss in Nigerian football - is the people who put him there and kept him there.

The NFF, under Ibrahim Gusau and with people like Sanusi shielding him, kept protecting this man and shuffling him into a job he had zero business getting, based on a coaching record where his main highlight was relegating Adamawa United. They stationed Madugu there because they knew he'd rather defend NFF's incompetence with spurious statements like "other teams are scared to play against us" rather than challenge them for better administration and treatment of the girls. Meanwhile the National Sports Commission, led by Dikko, was out in Morocco throwing money at a team it had refused to properly prepare. We came into this tournament having not utilized our international windows to schedule high profile friendlies against actual well drilled opponents.

So here we are again.
The men missed the 2026 World Cup
The women have now just missed direct qualification and now need to survive a hellish play-off route.
The U-20s crashed out of AFCON qualification after losing a disgraceful 4-1 to Burkina Faso in the WAFU B Championship.
The less said about the U-17, the better.
That's an absolute wipeout in a single calendar year, no thanks to a federation that is structurally rotten from the top to the bottom. Nepotism in technical appointments. Favouritism in squad selection. Zero long-term planning. Stomach-infrastructure culture where loyalty to the wrong people matters more than competence.

And so-called Nigeria football fans here would rather we keep mum and continue to feed on crumbs of short term success like we're dogs sniggling at the feet of these politicians? Lol

Well, at least there's still a playoff route to the 2027 Women's World Cup. If you ask me, it's of no use if we're not going to start rebuilding Nigerian football administration starting with the leadership. If we can't get rid of this charlatan Ibrahim Gusau, send Madugu back to his farm, and hire any competent coach with tactical nous, then what are we even looking forward to?

Talent has never been Nigeria's problem. Structure is. And structure is an NFF problem before it's anybody else's.

We have no business thinking about this path if we dont win on the 13th.
I guess in the preliminary playoff, the 6 teams will be grouped into 2 groups of 3. The table toppers automatically qualified. Right?
Also, two African teams won't be facing each other.. Same as their other counterparts.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by TheSuperNerd(m): 2:42pm On Aug 10
Not neccesarily 2 groups. It would be like the UCL group phase. The draws will determine who meets who across 3 matchdays.

And yes, teams from same confederation wont face each other.

The top 2 at the end of the day advances to the final round.

What exactly is your own metric of failure that need to happen for you to accept that indeed, that bar has fallen or crashed?

And if you ever arrive at an answer for the question above, when did the journey to failure begin? Or you think a successful team suddenly took a swerve off the road and crashed?

That's why i keep saying it is so Nigerian cos this very sentimental problem cuts across EVERY Govt agency and parastatals.

A failure of a boss have no conscience to step down or resign. Rather he goes about Beating his/her chest about promotion or retaining the same post.

how failure must failure be before you accept the inevitable?

We don't see teams like Spain and England, France, doing this thing.

Im used to saying that there's a way you will play that even if you lose, everyone including opponents will stand and applaud you cos you showed class but were unlucky or outclassed.

Super Falcons Currently don't play that way. All Cameroon had to do was just do 451 and 541. They surrendered to us having the ball and we couldn't break them down. Duels, 1v1, we failed. Aerial balls especially.

An now I'm seeing a subgroup that will turn to Vhagar and Drogon if you blame Madugu, that very subgroup are all over blaming Esther Okoronkwo for not passing to Zee. Asif that is why we are mainly here today.

We need factory reset. I guess some of us are too close to the players or the coaching crew that we don't want to bee seen as "enemies" when criticism is due.

Draw a graph and plot a trajectory of highs and lows for this team we've been watching since primary school days and tell me if this is not the lowest of the lows.

A true leader will take a bunch of misfits and transform then to titans. Sadly, these players are good already.
Many have gone crickets cos its a mental cope to be silent that talk about this terrible state. 😂🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
"this phase will pass" mental vacuum. Eeyah.

Talk plenty abeg.
I'm not religious but I'm inclined to say that at this point, this country needs divine intervention. Even the citizens of the country are encouraging all of this and want the country to fail. See what people like Fisayo Dairo are busy typing on Twitter. Everyday I lose faith in this country.

This thread is amusing.

The conclusion was Madugu didn't contribute to the last AWCON we won. We won that trophy by sheer luck and individual brilliance of the players.

Why una dey swear for the innocent man head na? Make una leave our Madugu o
😂😂😂😂
Not defending Madugu, but if Esther had scored that 1V1 in the last minute and Nigeria went on to turn the game around with a win, no one would have come for his head.

Yesterday, we all agreed that he got his lineup and even the subs spot-on, while expecting the ladies to finish the job.

By now, you should know that if Nigerians don't like you, there's nothing you can do to please them. Some posters on this thread were waiting for that loss, so they can affirm their "I told you so" statement.

Regardless, NIGERIA SPORTS need a total OVERHAUL.
