NDC queries INEC, insists it did not submit EC9E forms for 10 published Anambra candidates, demands electronic audit

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday insisted that it did not submit the names or Form EC9E documents of 10 Anambra State House of Assembly candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and demanded an immediate electronic audit of the commission’s nomination portal.

In a statement, the party said the 10 names that appeared on INEC’s published list were never uploaded by the party and did not emerge from its nomination and appeal process. It asked the commission to explain how the documents entered its system.

The smuggled names, according to the NDC, are:
1. Onitsha South 1 – Umennaajiego Jude Ezenwa
2. Onitsha South 2 – Akpotue Obinna Chibuike
3. Orumba North – Nwankwo Chiemerie
4. Anaocha 1 – Maduagwu Eric K.
5. Idemili North – Ngoebisi Obinna
6. Njikoka 1 – Isintume Charles
7. Nnewi South 1 – Nwachukwu Nonso
8. Nnewi South 2 – Okeke Ifeanyi Akunne
9. Ayamelum – Nnonyelu Samson E.
10. Dunukofia – Azotani Chuks Francis

The party said the nomination process is clear: a political party submits the names and particulars of its approved candidates, after which INEC processes, approves and publishes them. It maintained that it uploaded only the names of candidates who emerged from its appeal process, and that the commission rejected those approved names.

“It is the party’s legal responsibility to submit the names and credentials of its nominated candidates,” the statement said. “The NDC did not collect or forward completed EC9E forms for the 10 persons whose names later appeared on INEC’s published list.”

The party asked: “How did the Commission obtain their credentials when it is the party’s legal duty to submit the names of its approved candidates?”

Recalling an earlier statement by its National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, the NDC said the National Chairman as a custodian of the access code issued to the party for candidate uploads, never uploaded the disputed names.

According to that account, after primaries and the appeal process, Anambra stakeholders, working with party leadership, representatives of the presidential candidate and the appeals panel, produced a final list that was signed off by all. When that list was uploaded using the code given by INEC, officials who control the backend of the portal kept several of the party’s names on “Pending” status, claiming the system already contained names submitted by field monitors of the primaries.

The NDC said that even after it formally appealed those names and submitted its actual nominees with a covering letter, INEC refused to replace them. It alleged that the commission then collected Form EC9 directly from the disputed candidates, bypassing the party, and published the names as authentic NDC candidates.

Senator Cleopas described the development as contrary to the Electoral Act and INEC’s own guidelines. He said that if the names submitted by the party did not tally with those INEC claimed to have received from its monitoring teams, the commission should have left the slots blank rather than preload names and block the party from uploading its nominees.

“At the very worst, INEC could have left us with no candidates for those positions if it was unwilling to engage us on any perceived anomaly,” he said.

The chairman condemned what he called an emerging pattern in which INEC prevents parties from uploading their rightful candidates while imposing names on them, particularly opposition parties, thereby fuelling internal crisis. He vowed that the NDC would pursue the matter to the end until the situation is reversed.

The party called on INEC to conduct an electronic audit trail of its candidate nomination portal to establish how the 10 names were entered, alleging that they were introduced through the backend of the system.

Probably the time for replacement had passed which made INEC to reject the new names. NDC is not a serious party.

If the story is true then INEC is wrong to be "forcing" candidates on political parties and their role is to monitor party primaries and note winners accordingly not to preload them for the parties so much to prevent parites from replacing names after appeals so what is the point of providing avenue for appeal and why issue any so called uploading code or deadline to upload candidates when INEC can or wants to do it themselves. Even soliciting for credentials directly from the candidates.

Anyway it is only Peter Obi Anambra we are hearing this so Peter Obi is culpable in all these....we are still waiting for him to sue Kenneth Okonkwo over this same primary election in which he collected money from some candidates and wrote primary election results for same Anambra in a hotel in Abuja.

What is NDC hidding, i think this candidates were the ones who won the primary election and Peter Obi and party Executhiefs were trying to shot change them by replacing their names. But the state chairman and the candidates refused and went to summit their form EC9E because INEC observers monitor the primary election. The party Executhiefs are now trying to blackmail INEC to submission, kole work, go and rectify with candidates that won primary and refund their expenses with extra pay if you want them to play ball.

This is a serious allegation that warrants an immediate answer from INEC. They shouldn't set this country on fire in 2027 with this precedent being set now. Unpatriotic elements.

I think what happened here is more like a power tussle … this 0 persons won their various primaries, but they are been shortchanged by other candidates…. at the end of it all this 10 persons emerge on inec portal… so the NDC Chairman is surprised that their candidates they wanted to imposed didn’t appear on the inec portal …

Serves them right!

Next time, if you know you want to do mago-mago after primaries that was duly observed by INEC, you’ll think again! What’s the point of direct primaries if you’ll still substitute the winners names? How are you different from APC?

Nonsense and ingredients.

How can this be the question? It does not matter weda they are NDC members, THE CORRECT QUESTION INEC SHOULD ANSWER IS HOW DID THEY COME ABOUT THE NAMES OF THE ASPIRANTS THEY HAVE PUBLISHED AS NDC CANIDIDATES.

Na you be NDC? The party has stated their issue with INEC. iNEC ought to do the right thing and respond to the party's query. This issue is so simple to deal with in saner climes.

It is not about #serves them right#. It is about transparency, if your submission is in tune with what INEC has done then INEC should state the obvious rather than being quiet and letting us be discussing ifs or buts about the issue.

And where’s your condemnation for swapping winners of primaries with other names? What’s the essence of primaries if they’d still do mago-mago? Btw, this applies to all of the main parties. They all did the same thing. Waste of time
