AI is changing many jobs, and data analytics is one area where I’m wondering how much the role will change.

Tools can now generate charts, summarize data, write SQL queries and help with basic analysis. At the same time, companies still need people who can understand business problems, work with data and make useful decisions from it.

For people working in data or considering it as a career:

Do you think Data Analytics is still a good career choice with the rapid growth of AI?

What skills do you think will be most important going forward — SQL, Python, statistics, data visualization, business understanding, or AI tools?

I’d also be interested to hear from people who are already working as data analysts. Has AI actually changed the way you work, and if so, which parts of your job have changed the most?

Would be great to hear some real experiences rather than just predictions.

Data Analytics will always be an in-demand career to pursue. You only need to know how to use these AI tools to do your work. Companies will require humans to make sense of the jargons these computers (AI machines) churn out as data.

I'm curious to learn from experienced industrial experts as the knowledge will shape my career prospects as an iT enthusiast.
Modified: I have tried planning and modeling a business with AI and I can attest to the fact that the AI's advice/recommendations are top-notch and in tandem with the recommendation of human experts and sometimes even better as it is not prone to bias.

Try to be top notch at anything you want to do going forward. A.I will take jobs of lower grade professionals not people at the top tier in their field. As a senior software engineer with over 15 years of experience, I can assure you that A.I will always need us, but you have to be at the top of your game.

I think data analytics is not likely going to be a career part on its own in the near future because of AI. It is just going to be a skill for professionals such as accountants, marketers, HR personels and so on.

You will be required to have data analytics skills and be able to use these tools in your accounting, marketing or HR roles. You will need to understand when to use SQL, Python, statistics, data visualization,etc.

You however don't need to know how to have write sql or pythons codes but the prompt to tell AI to do what you wanted to achieve and AI will write the pythons or SQL to give you your desired result.

For example if you want to know how many people to employee on the factory floor to produce 10000 cars. You will get the information of the people that worked in the factory last year when you produce 3000 cars and the AI will use that to calculate the number of people needed, the skill level, the age range, the appropriate hours each person should work etc. to do their budget you will get the information on their salary, the labor agreement and other pertinent information and AI will do the budget. write budget note and draft the email for distribution

Every job collects data anyway. AI will make data analytics redundant. The ability to train ML models will be the only viable upskill for a data scientist.

In the past, intuition is the edge "baddest CEOs" have over many people. The ability to use common sense. Right now, data is available and the challenge we are facing is how to use data, analyse, and even know when and what to use. Intuition comes in again, but not as the olden days. It is now using common sense that is extremely uncommon to handle data.

So, you need to first understand the principles behind data management itself. When you asked if data analytics is going, it is yes and no. If its just doing the technical part and querying it, you will go hungry because everyone eventually will have to start doing that. But if you now talk about how to hunt for the right data, how to map them together, and then use it well....it means you must know system architecture. You must understand the flow. And to do this, you may need to go deep inside it first.

In summary, human judgement (the replacement of intuition) is the best skill to have now. This is what MBA & DBA programs will pivot into very soon. HITL - Human In The Loop is the best skill anyone who aspires to have a seat on the board, or to become a CEO will need to have.

Indeed, it’s a classic. And with AI making waves, it’s a guaranteed future of plenty for those who embrace it.

So if I were starting Data Analytics today, I wouldn't abandon SQL, Python, statistics or visualization because of AI. I would learn those fundamentals alongside AI and automation, and learn how to use AI to do the repetitive parts faster.

This is also something we've been exploring in the free TechWithTeddy AI & Tech Community - not just learning individual AI tools, but understanding how AI, coding and automation can be combined with existing professional skills.

My view is that AI probably won't make learning technical skills pointless. It changes which skills give you leverage and how quickly you can apply them.

Analytics reports, dashboards are now incorporated and automated in the warehouse using views, stored procedures and measures.

Only data engineers are safe for now.

Just go and start a provision business instead of contemplating data analysis.

AI will generate all that within seconds.
