My sponsor has funded my GIC with CAD22,000+ and the student chequeing account with 20,000CAD all in TD bank Canada just to show as POF, and he will need back his money in no distant time. If eventually my study permit got approved, Is it advisable for him to withdrawal his money immediately after I got approved, or just leave the money intact in the GIC till I enter Canada? Will Canada immigration check and verify my POF at the port of entry to know wether the funds are still intact? He will need his money soon. Please I need answers |

Chigbo55:Question: if he withdrawals his money how do you intend to pay your school fees when you are in canada If you cannot afford to school abroad without doing all this, please don’t. I am not discouraging you from coming I am just saying the bitter truth before someone says I am, but please, do not set yourself up for failure. I take God beg you. |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 9:43pm On Sep 15 |
Chigbo55:Money in GIC are released in stages. First, an initial amount when you arrived and identified yourself, followed by the remaining funds in monthly or bi-monthly instalments over 10–12 months. Do your research well. |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 9:56pm On Sep 15 |
amnotapervert:That screenshot you posted about an accommodation, was the accommodation in Ontario where you brought your Ontario laws or was it elsewhere? If it was elsewhere, why did you bring your Ontario landlord laws to the conversation if your aim wasn't to get back at me because I kicked against your agent? The Ontario you claimed people CANNOT share apartment, I am in Ontario and I have seen a couple of students who live in shared apartments. |

Great1tech:Unfortunately the only solid proof from webform is IRCC response with attached enquiry and application details. |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 10:04pm On Sep 15 |
amnotapervert:The Ontario laws you claimed were against people sharing accommodation why is it not working in this part of Ontario I am? My course mate told me how her family do come to visit her and when they come, they stay with her in that one room till they go back. Why has she not been evicted or jailed? You claimed how rooms in Ontario were so small that even one person would find it uncomfortable not to talk of two or three people living in. Yet the room I stayed in the AirBnB was wide enough to fit 5 people. The current place I am staying, my bedroom can comfortable fit in four student's bunk and if managed well six people can fit in. I understand that all those talks were because I chose not to work with your agents. But it's fine. Please stop quoting me so that I will not take your 'spot' on this thread. Thank you and have a nice evening. |

Hello, everyone! I got admission into Master of Education at Thomson River University, BC. I received the admission message in July, to resume study in September but I had to request for deferment to the next fall (Sept. 2027) in order to have enough time to prepare. I've already made a tuition deposit of 6000CAD and I'm planning to deposit more before December. I already have Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling and I'm planning to relocate with my family. Please I don't have any processing experience but I need your help to guide me through how to go about this. When I'm I supposed to start the processing exactly, especially building the pof account? Thanks. |

Great1tech:Did he send a proof like this, because this is the message you get from ircc when you submit a webform or tell the agent to release your details,it is your email the agent is meant to use to apply when it is not as if the agent is licensed immigration consultant or lawyer

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JapaProf: 11:29pm On Sep 15 |
rightminds:You need to calculate your Proof of Funds (POF). This should cover your first-year tuition fee + the new living expenses of CAD 23,448, and then you deduct the CAD 6,000 tuition deposit you have already paid. You can also consider getting a GIC for the living expenses to strengthen your proof of fund availability. The source of funds is very important, so make sure you can clearly explain and document where the money is coming from. You should also prepare a strong Statement of Purpose (SOP) explaining: - Why you want to study in Canada. - Why you chose the school. - Why you chose the course, especially considering your previous Master’s degree. - How you intend to fund your studies and the source of your funds. - Your plans after completing your studies. - Your ties to your home country and why you intend to return after your studies. |

AbelAbdul:You just said, “My course mate told me how her family comes to visit her, and when they come, they stay with her in that one room until they go back.” Why has she not been evicted or jailed? Guy, a family member visiting is different from four people sharing a 168–208 sq. ft. room for $500. You know this, right? Even your landlord would not allow six people to share the room you stay in. I have understood something about you: you are very good at making up stories in your head, and once you are caught up in a lie, you make up more stories. You don’t take corrections, which is sad, and you always find a way to wiggle your way out of things you have said that are wrong. Now, again, tell me: where is the agent I gave you that you are saying I am upset you did not use? https://www.nairaland.com/7776621/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/688

Hello Nairalanders, We are preparing a study permit reapplication after an initial refusal, and I would appreciate your insights, advice, and profile evaluation to ensure we cover all bases this time. Here is a full breakdown of the refusal context, the updates made to the profile, and the financial/proof-of-ties strategy for the upcoming submission: 1. Refusal Background & Refusal Grounds Refusal Reasons: Financial sufficiency (proof of funds) and purpose of visit / strong ties to home country. Course Intended Start: Deferral requested directly with the institution in Regina from the original start date to January 2027 intake. 2. Updated Financial Proof & Proof of Funds Strategy Funds Moved to Canada (Lump Sum / Proof of Transfer): Sponsor (Aunt's friend / Third-party Primary Sponsor) has moved funds directly to Canada. Proof: Official Scotiabank documentation confirming balances/deposits in Canada ($30,000 CAD + $20,000 USD). Home Country Accounts (Nigeria - Primary Sponsor): USD Account: Balance of $140,000+ USD (Verified via MyBankStatement). NGN Account: Balance of ₦120,000,000+ NGN (Verified via MyBankStatement). Tax Documents Note: Tax documents for the sponsor will not be included in this submission. 3. Proof of Business, Ties & Support Documents Corporate Registrations (Sponsor): Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) business registration documents from Nigeria. Documentation showing registered company ownership/co-ownership in Canada (co-owned/registered alongside his nephew). Travel History & Proof of Genuine Intent: Applicant recently visited Canada on a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV / Visitor Visa) for approximately 2 weeks. Attended campus orientation/institution visit in Regina during this trip. Evidence: Stamped passport pages, entry/exit receipts, photos taken on campus/orientation, and official institutional deferral confirmation letter for January 2027. Questions for the Forum: Is moving $30k CAD + $20k USD to a Canadian account sufficient to address previous financial concerns, given the third-party nature of the sponsorship? What is the best way to structure the Explanation Letter / Letter of Explanation (LoE) to address the omission of sponsor tax clearance certificates without raising flags? Are there specific ways to highlight the 2-week Canadian visitor history and campus orientation visit to maximize "Purpose of Visit" credibility? Thanks in advance for your inputs! ehiremen2002:

Labisi08:Take it easy oo. The last time, I mentioned that if you cannot do it yourself and you must insist on getting help, do not pay anyone who is not an RCIC consultant or a lawyer. Since that day, AbelAbdul has tagged me as an agent, saying that I push people and force them to use agents. 😂 Me that I always say do it yourself but if your head can not do it and you believe someone should do it for you make sure the person is an RCIC consultant or a lawyer. So, be very careful before AbelAbdul comes for you too. 😂 https://www.nairaland.com/7776621/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/688

Good day everyone, my study permit finally got approved. I had deferred last week and submitted an application for a new course that starts in January since my current course can only be deferred to September 2027. My actual question and concerns: If I get a new LOA for January for the new course, can I travel on this existing approval? Same DLI number, different program. Specifically: 1. Has anyone changed program at the same DLI after approval but before travelling? Did the POE officer issue the permit without issue, or was it a problem? 2. Is submitting a webform with the new LOA before travelling enough, or does IRCC expect a new application for a program change? 3. My permit is tied to a program ending May 2027, so validity is presumably around August 2027. The January program runs to September 2027 so I'd need to extend from inside Canada. Is that as routine as it sounds, or does starting a program you can't finish within your permit validity cause problems at the border? 4. Anyone had a POE officer question an approval issued against a program you're no longer enrolled in? That's the part I'm most unsure about. Any experience welcome, including things that went wrong. Lastly thanks again for the support and answers to my previous questions. |

godsplan001:Hello, have you tried reaching out to your program coordinator with the approval letter? I believe they would let you start late since the program only started on the 10th. If you haven’t, I would call and also email |

rightminds:Please read up on how GIC works. you get back 30% in month 1 and the rest plus interest is disbursed monthly over a 1 year period. You can't get it all back anytime at once. Also, if the sponsor is not blood-related to you, you have a high risk of being denied by IRCC. |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Nobody: 2:57pm On Sep 16 |
No, it is absolutely not advisable for your sponsor to withdraw the money, and doing so can put your entire academic future in Canada at serious risk. Chigbo55: |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 9:50pm On Sep 16 |
Chigbo55:Nobody can possibly tell what would happen at the pot of entry. The officers there ask random questions. A guy that was in front of me during my time was asked where he planned to stay in Canada. I was not asked that question. There was one other guy that was asked to produce a copy of his first degree certificate. So random questions were asked. You might be asked for that account statement you might also not be asked. Best is to go with everything. Secondly are you aware that you can’t withdraw all the funds in GIC at once? |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by arcis: 10:58pm On Sep 16 |
AbelAbdul:Can i use the GIC as proof of funds only or i need to still add statement of account while submitting my application? |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 11:37pm On Sep 16 |
arcis:GIC from my little knowledge it’s meant for money for your living expenses which is around 23k CAD. While POF is all the money available for everything concerning your study including and not limited to tuition, travel and living expenses So if your using GIC has POF you are trying to tell the officer that you have money for your living expenses whereas the officer wants to see that you have money for everything |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by AbelAbdul: 11:43pm On Sep 16 |
arcis:Mind you, a GIC is not a guarantee you will get the study permit. If you have the money and you can access it, I see no need for a GIC. Two Indians I met here where telling me how they cannot withdraw all their money from GIC account the moment the landed in Canada. I prefer the money stays in your Nigerian or dom acct. Just prove to the officer that you can access the money. In my case the way I could prove that I could access the money was by using money from that account to pay my tuition fee. |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by dsureguy: 1:00am On Sep 17 |
Lol, dem dey withdraw GIC like that? Only the person whose name is on the GIC can withdraw and you can't withdraw until you get your student permit not student visa and you visit the branch in person. Chigbo55: |
