Tony Bloom the owner has a Mathematics degree and was an accountant, then stock broker, before he became a professional gambler and poker player.

He also has a data company that drives Brighton’s transfer model. The algorithm supplied by his company is what serves as the foundation for their player transfers. He insists on everybody in the club following what the algorithm says, which is probably why they have maintained their standard despite the huge turnover of players, coaches, and even sporting/technical directors.

Being a gambler and poker player would also make him a pain in the behind during transfer negotiations
