That's precisely why I advocate that we Nigerians go learn in China to 'steal' their technology and come implement it in Nigeria. I even suspect they might pay us to learn so we are useful for them when they come here.
We have educated Nigerians crafting policies on international scene. All their recommendation to past and present government has amounted to zero

I don’t have a problem with them opening their stores in Nigeria

However, it should be based on reciprocity, if Nigerians can’t open stores in China, then Chinese shouldn’t be able to open stores in Nigeria it’s as simple as that

That’s bilateral agreement on reciprocity

The Chinese don't want technical and technological partnership. They want the reliance to continue where they sell to us and we buy from them, while they retain the technological advantage they have over us. We are a consuming nation, not a productive nation and it is to their own advantage.

grin our blodas have been restless for the past few weeks since this new development…..ndi Yorubas don’t travel out of their region to other regions because the are afraid of competition. Now the Chinese challenging them to real competition but here they are crying grin

Another lie they tell themselves is that if they leave Lagos and Yorubaland, Lagos will be empty and the economy of Lagos will crash grin but yet they refuse to leave so Lagos can crash grin they forget that they are just traders who engage in buying and selling which is not rocket science.

Now in their fight for market dominance against the Chinese, they want the Yorubas who they have insulted and disrespected to stick out their neck for them and support them in their fight grin them go cry tire…….the Chinese are here to stay and are going nowhere…..if they can’t compete, then they should go back home or find another line of trade……btw proudly Lagos grin

Looks like some want to maintain their monopoly.

Here is similar in Europe and USA. Most hate the competition.
Xenophobia is a universal phenomenon. Thank God we're not as violent about things as the Southies.

But, like someone said, the government needs to step in and regulate the retail sector where necessary.

Sure, they don't want what they don't want. That's why we have to fight for it. They want our market - that's something to bargain with. If only we can get our act together.

It was not handed to the Chinese either. They took it.

I just hope nigerians dont allow this opportunity to learn from the Chinese expertise slip. China developed today because they allowed all the European and American companies manufacture in China using the local people as cheap labour. After so many years all these local chinese people started manufacturing directly in China competing with Western market.

Thank you ChatGPT

obembet:
This is actually good for economyif you ask me

Lower prices
: Direct access from manufacturers/wholesalers can reduce some middlemen and distribution margins.

More competition: Nigerian retailers may have to improve prices, quality and customer service.

Pressure on excessive mark-ups:
Where a product can be sold profitably at a lower price, competitors make it harder to maintain very high margins.

More China-related business activity: Nigerians who travel to China for sourcing may benefit from easier access and stronger trade links. China has also extended its reduced visa-fee policy for Nigerian applicants through December 31, 2026.

Although Nigerian retailers will lose customers since foreign businesses sell directly to consumers at cheapest

In my conclusion,

More competition means consumers may have more choices and stronger bargaining power. It can put pressure on retailers to reduce excessive mark-ups, improve customer service and offer better value.

It could also increase the number of Nigerians travelling to China for business and sourcing, strengthening trade between both countries.

Competition is not necessarily bad for Nigerian businesses. It can force businesses to become more efficient and competitive instead of blaming government for every increase in price

At the end of the day, the biggest beneficiary should be the Nigerian consumerprovided the government ensures that every business, local or foreign, plays by the same rules.

Chinese have come before. They saw and ran back to their country. The same thing will soon happen to them soon. All these is to frustrate Igbos in Lagos. Wouldn't be surprised that the Lagos Government gave them money to start up businesses in Lagos

That's not true. As with all things China, you get what you ask for. They have had technical partnership with Nigeria.

But there are some Nigerians that don't want technical partnership.

I'll explain in 30 minutes.

Lol

Remove "Chinese" from your post and replace it with "Europeans". The exact same thing

My main issue is,why all these anti-Chinese rhetoric on the Nigerian cyberspace for the past two weeks all of a sudden?
These folks have been in Nigeria doing this business for over two decades and there hasn't really been any sort of problem. Why now?

This anti-Chinese rhetoric is clearly being sponsored by foreign entities who don't want a Chinese/Nigeria relationship...trade-wise,economy-wise,militarily-wise etc.
Re: Increasing Numbers Of Chinese Retail Stores In Lagos by Eraddray(m): 9:00am On Sep 20
This post is sponsored by one of the protesters in trade fair, I employ the NPF to fish out this person and arrest him....when our brother from SE came to lagos, they use cheap imported and substandard materials to chase Yoruba traders out of business, same thing they did in one particular spare part market in ibadan... And nobody ever complained or protested against our brothers, they proceeded to inflating the prices all this cheap and substandard imported good to over 300% of what it should cost, they forgot its an open market, the Chinese saw an opportunity in their greed, when it's time, we as Yorubas will visit the Chinese matter, but for nownl, no one will chase them away

Get educated bro...

"Yorubaland" or "Igboland" or "Hausaland" or any other "land" in Nigeria is only in terms of expressing cultural identity only...

Only.

Because every inch of Nigerian land belongs to everyone who is a Nigerian!

There's no separate "laws" or "rules" as you called it that gives any so-calked"indigene" any rights over a "non-indigene"

The overall Nigerian Constitution is clear about that!

In fact,state assemblies have no right to pass any "rules" or "laws" that disadvantages other Nigerians because the Nigerian Constitution is bigger than the State assemblies;

For instance,an Igbo man has the rights to contest the Governorship of Lagos or Ogun State.(And they have the numbers, the brawns, & the financial muscles) yet they choose not to.

E get why.

It's because they choosed to respect the cultural sensibilities of the people of the area...

...as they have always done.

Not that they don't know their rights!

Appreciate this.

Therefore, let everyone get properly informed and stop constituting nuisance & ignorance and giving yourselves unnecessary B.P
