kentebemoney:According to Fareed Zakaria In the early 2000s, the market capitalization of JPMorgan, today the U.S.’s biggest bank, was 40 percent smaller than HSBC, Europe’s biggest bank. Not only has that reversed, but JPMorgan now has a market cap bigger than Europe’s top four banks combined.” |

raumdeuter:Raumdeuter: All the brilliant Europeans have either given up or fled to America because they punish success in Europe. Also Raumdeeuter: I support Trump as he dismantles the US's immigration/migration system. Especially when it comes to work visas for foreign nationals at top universities and the H1B visa program. Always a stunning lack of any intellectual consistency when MAGAts speak. |

bemeruca:People where and when? No one can force me to watch any execution, but that's not the point. Live streaming an execution on American soil in 2026 by American government is completely reprehensible and barbaric. Government should be accountable to the people - that is democracy. It appears that is alien to you. |

IjeBos:Lacking intellectual ability is really a challenge So in your little mind the solution is for US to take everyone from everywhere? US still takes the best from anywhere they want through the EB visa program The concept of protecting America and American workers is something you loath so much. You hate the country and its people that seeing American graduates being unable to get jobs after hundreds of thousands in student loans does not make you think a leader needs to address it Let the govt of Europe make their continent attractive so brilliant Europeans can stay and develop their own continent not to flee it When brilliant European do not develop Europe, then what happens to the continent and its people? In your own mind they should just migrate to America |

raumdeuter:It's good to keep a promise. Don't be offended if the write up sounds too simplified or broken down, I want to make sure everything is understood because I'm not so good at conveying complex subjects. The bolded deserves to be addressed. First, all drugs are classed into 2 major market groups....BRANDED and GENERIC. Branded drugs are still under patent and have ONLY one monopoly manufacturer and thus the prices are high. Drugs lose patents after 13 to 18 years and BECOME generics and ANY manufacturer can make it, which means lower prices. So here's the straight answer....drug prices are largely the same in general, but in the specific area of BRAND NAME DRUGS, it's accurate to state that President Trump has crashed the prices of VERY POPULAR brand name drugs, especially the miracle drugs called GLP's...ozempic, wegovy and such. Oh yes, they're miracle drugs and he crashed the prices. In fact what happened borders on comedic, but I've answered the question. I'll get back to these GLP's later, they illustrate a VERY IMPORTANT point about government benefits and the human condition . In the light of recent commentary on this thread such as the following - basilico:She actually said or implied this? That's interesting. Then again, some also have opinions like this - and bayelsaowei:So here goes. All of the above are true. The most important thing to know is HOW & WHY seemingly contradictory situations can co-exist as truth. There's nothing new in our world. The simple truth is that even as the rich exist, the Bible and common sense tell us that the poor will always be with us. It's a human reality. It doesn't even need to be explained and worst of all, there's NOTHING anyone can do about it. France, part of the EU/Europe, has an extensive socialist state that spends one of the highest % of GDP on welfarist programs, yet there's still complaints about poverty. Right now there's riots about terrible schools and some other things. So the truth is, if France has such complaints, then EVERY country will have such. To repeat, the problem can NEVER be solved. Here in the USA, measured on a worldwide basis, there's no poverty. The only way a person can complain about "poverty" in the USA is to use domestic comparative arguments, which simply means ENVY. So the complaints are NOT really about poverty (which doesn't exist in the USA) it's about some people having so much compared to other people AND the fact that much of the income distribution falls along racial lines that suggest Black Americans are victims of a deliberate policy of impoverishment...while Asians are beneficiaries of what...deliberate upliftment ? ![]() And it's worth reminding everyone that Black Americans are the richest, healthiest, longest living, best HDI, most socio-politically empowered national group of Negroes on earth....and that the next highest ranked are in South Africa and the UK. Basically, any Negro that wants to thrive KNOWS that the best way to achieve it is to live among Anglo-Saxon Whites or in a country where they rule or dominate the economy. Meanwhile, Nigeria, the country with the world's highest and MOST DIVERSE population of Negroes and least number of citizens of other races, is the Poverty Capital of the World....somehow, the poorest country in the Americas is also a Negro nation....Haiti, which killed off ALL it's White populace and conquered and colonized it's only neighbor, the Dominican Republic. Every argument MUST take these into account, any argument that doesn't consider the WORLDWIDE comparative is deliberately obtuse. So those who have much less in the USA are called "POOR", but on a world wide comparison, they're actually middle class...90% of them have access to 24hr electricity, good roads, air conditioning, cell phones, clean water, limitless fixed price internet and all the best electronic entertainment. They're well fed to the point of obesity being a national epidemic, teenaged minimum wage earners can buy cars that most 40 year olds in Nigeria can't afford, every child gets free nursery to secondary school education...heck, in North Carolina the equivalent of Polytechnics are FREE for all families earning less than $90K (?) and if you acquire a skill and work inside the State, the tuition is PAID BACK to you, a member of my immediate family went through that. We didn't even know such a law existed, the check just arrived in the mail after the person got employed and we earn much more than $90K. So the notion of "poverty" for any person without physical or mental disability in the USA is laughable. It simply doesn't exist. As this is my real name, I'm telling anyone on Nairaland living in the USA...if you know anyone in poverty in this country,...earning below $12/hr is my measure....please send me their info, give them my contacts, they can register on Nairaland and contact me. I promise to show them how they can BECOME a $65K/yr worker @ 40 to 50 hours/week, meaning median HOUSEHOLD income earners within 1 year in the State of North Carolina...a very simple, accessible path that anyone of average intellect can accomplish, with a guaranteed job with INFINITELY flexible hours and full benefits in ANY place in the country, including rural areas with very low rents. Once they have that stable income, they can move on to do whatever else they choose. If they CHOOSE to continue taking my directions, within 5 years, they can EASILY be earning $100K/yr. So that's my retort to anyone who says there's a poor person in the USA, the only excuse for a normal person is IGNORANCE and I'm willing to educate them. Why do people exist and REMAIN at the bottom of the income scales in the USA? Everyone knows the answers, but for reasons of political beliefs, self interest and moral posturing, they PRETEND not to know. People REMAIN at the lower levels of the income/wealth scale in the USA for the following reasons - (1) Physical health disability or mental health disability. (2) Bad personal or economic decisions (3) Government attempts to help the poor. As this is a political thread and given the promises in the initial notes, the pharmaceutical markets will be used to illustrate point (3) above. The sad thing is that such has already been done and was met with a simple refusal to even engage on the substance of the issues exposed. The vast and continuing USA subsidy for European and world pharmaceutical markets was explained here - https://www.nairaland.com/4508641/american-politics-thread-trump-47th/4677#133257086 and here the housing market origins of the Great Recession was explained....and of course ignored by the discussant - https://www.nairaland.com/7989670/tinubu-nigeria-sinking-streets-full/6#128291426 https://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/30/business/fannie-mae-eases-credit-to-aid-mortgage-lending.html That NY Times article is so famous because it contains PREDICTIONS of what would happen when President Bill Clinton FORCED banks in 1999 to REDUCE credit standards with the expressed intent of ensuring more Black people could get mortgages and increase their home ownership rates. Just a decade later, the borrowers couldn't pay and the housing market crashed, causing the Great Recession of 2007. The funniest thing is that Black American homeownership is now LOWER than it was in 1999 when President Clinton started HELPING us So this is a futile discussion to have with Nigerian liberals cum Oyibo haters but here goes.... In or around the year 2003, Republican President George Bush the 2nd initiated or established Medicare Part D. Prior to this, all senior citizens & retirees in the USA had to pay for their medicines out of their pocket if they didn't have some personal, commercial or employer insurance. Thankfully, I was already in pharmacy at this time so I can say I've seen this thing right from the beginning...in demographic studies, a generation is 25 years. That's long enough to judge initial or substantive outcomes for most things in life. At that time, who knows how it started, there was a huge outcry about the cost of drugs. No, actually it was started by the drug Plavix LOL, every pharmacist who thinks a little about it will agree. Heart related ailments were (and remain) a big killer in the USA. People who had heart attacks/myocardial infarctions are placed on drugs that prevent clotting. Back then warfarin was the clotting preventive. It was cheap but had some side effects and also needed regular lab testing which involved needle sticks. Warfarin was cheap, something like $15 to $20 for a month supply. Again, because heart/mi issues were so common, warfarin was widely used. We sold the thing like candy, pharmacies crammed the shelves with it...very important medicine. Plavix, a much better clot prevention agent, came to the market about 1999. Of course it was a new drug still on patent, so the manufacturer set the price very high...in the range of maybe $100 per month. Seniors complained bitterly that they had to pay so much for this life preserving drug. Remember though, much cheaper warfarin was available. As rich people paid for Plavix, the ENVY set in from poorer folks who could only afford warfarin. And George Bush saw an issue on which to run for re-election. So he gave the USA Medicare Part D, which made government pay for the pharmaceuticals for all elderly/retired Americans. So the USA has a pharma market in which companies are allowed to set their prices as they wish. It's budgetary suicide for government to subsidize or pay for a product/service without a limit on price. Well, drug costs quickly spiraled out of control. At first, just like the Nigerian fuel subsidy that started in 1973, nobody noticed, but by 2020 it was all coming apart. Socialist Point #1 - Socialist will ask or will say...President Bush should have implemented price controls, why did he allow the pharma companies to OVER CHARGE the USA...though I don't know how you can call it overcharging when they set the price for their product. Capitalist Point of Reply - implementing price controls will suppress innovation. Oh yeeees, if price controls had been implemented with Medicare Part D, it's unlikely that Ozempic would exist today. So when drug spending started going up unsustainably, the solution the government hit on was to suppress the profits of the PHARMACY RETAIL STORES. This is a really sad story for anyone who knows pharmacy retail. Yes, giant chains like Rite Aid and Walgreens were driven into bankruptcy, but small, individually owned and independent stores were even worse hit. Thousands of people lost their jobs and many towns lost their beloved local pharmacists. You will hear socialists rail and cry about INVESTORS making insane profits. Walgreens was a mainstay investment for many middle class families in the USA, it's the kind of company that Estate Lawyers who administer Trusts for orphans would put their money into because of the reliable dividends. Government policy destroyed a 100 year old company and goodness knows how many people lost their fortunes and wealth. Nobody ever talks about these losses, yes investors took the risk, nobody wants to restore their money but if they invest in another risk venture and succeed, the knives will be out to take their profits. The blood curdling ENVY of liberals & socialists is soooo illogical, it's a wall of unreason. Now here's the kicker. Whatever happened to Plavix? The drug eventually lost it's patent. The competition that has ensued has driven the cash price to $25 per month today...in inflation adjusted dollars that's likely $10 back in 2002. This is the drug for which a whole retail sector was ravaged and destroyed to ensure that EVERYONE got access to it, despite the availability of a real alternative. Not only that, even BETTER clot prevention agents like Xarelto have been invented and put on the market and of course the government DEMANDS that these new and EXPENSIVE ones MUST also be made available to EVERYONE regardless of their ability to pay, despite the FACT that Plavix, the recent miracle drug, is still available....and is as cheap as a Whataburger. This is like the government insisting that EVERYONE must be afforded the subsidized opportunity to buy a dishwasher when they can manually do their dishes....or subsidizing very expensive electric cars when perfectly working petrol cars are still available. It makes no sense at all, even in the case of healthcare because ALTERNATIVES are there and can be used and they work, just maybe a little less efficacious. This is even deeper in the case of GLP's like Ozempic and goes to the major reason for this essay. I have dozens of patients on Ozempic, Wegovy and such. President Trump went to war against these companies. The very week after he was elected, drug sales people were trooping into our pharmacy in panic, telling us that prices have changed, giving coupons and instructions on pricing. It was high comedy. There's ANOTHER mass price reduction scheduled for the new year too. Everybody go lekpaaa by force. Most of our patients on Ozempic are getting excellent WEIGHT LOSS but that's only the most visible and of course most desired treatment point. It's also helping with diabetic and cardiovascular endpoints and even....sleep apnea. Yes o, the drug is doing things. In talking to our patients, the biggest complaint is that Ozempic destroys their appetite, sometimes through reflexive nausea while eating. That's actually HOW the drug works, it's activating a hormonal signal of SATIATION in the brain. This brings up something important. If the mechanism of action of this drug is to STOP a person from overeating, why can't people do it themselves? Why must government PAY for a sentient human being to have some SELF CONTROL? Just common EATING, simple diet, people can't exercise some reasonable restraint. And they want government to pay for it or FORCE drug companies to sell the drug cheap. It's soooo silly, for real. It's an abdication of personal responsibility. And that...abdication of personal responsibility....is a major cause of poverty AND government debt and the resultant price inflation in the USA. Nobody wants to do even a little to achieve what they want, the predominant instinct is to demand MONEY from someone else...and jealous socialists are always happy to point the irresponsible "poor" in the direction of the rich who are ALWAYS a minority in every country. It's frankly amusing reading their IGNORANCE and lack of economic sense. Remember, President Clinton FORCED banks to lend to Black Americans in 1999...sparking a house buying boom. By 2007, most of those people couldn't pay the mortgages for the houses they bought and the banks started losing money and the economy crashed. Today in 2026, Black American home ownership rate is LOWER than in 1999. That's an affront to me as a Black American and is a practical example of why socialism is held in contempt by reasonable people. https://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/30/business/fannie-mae-eases-credit-to-aid-mortgage-lending.html Anyways, that's about it...hopefully it's coherent and makes sense, not too pedestrian but easy to understand the relevant points. Good Luck to Nigerians. |

Konkoja:People have always watched execution. You will be the one to turn your computer or tv, navigate to the channel streaming it, no one is forcing it on you. In Aug 14, 1936, thousands gathered in owensboro, Kentucky, to witness the execution of Rainey Bethea. You're entitled to consider it barbaric, but your personal disgust doesn't automatically make it morally wrong. And what exactly does government accountability have to do with whether people are allowed to witness an execution? The two aren't mutually exclusive. Relax. 😂 |

raumdeuter:You mean the EB program Trump is trying to gut? Hoenstly, everything you write is some emotional screed/lie never backed by any real Trump policy. Last week you were celebrating the drop in Crime. Not understanding it was because of laws passed during Biden's presidency. You are now celebrating immigration from Europe while Trump is making it harder for that immigration and brilliant students are already choosing not to study in the US because of all the anti-immigrant hysteria fostered by Trump. You sustain yourself with propaganda and get emotional in that propaganda that you can't even think through the negative consequences of the things you say. So, you flip flip from post to post in what you say you believe. |

IbeOkehie:Brilliant absolutely brilliant 👏 submission I agree with everything you said here and this is why despite the childish tantrums of the leftist posters here you should not leave this forum and stop speaking sense. We have a lot to learn from you I spoke to a friend for over hours yesterday, the key driving the left is ENVY pure and simple They didnt put what IbeOkehie did into his life but wonder why you are doing better. Yesterday was a Friday night my friend a Physician who makes over 1m a yr doing locums in remote parts of the country was in his house with his family while people who dont make 5% of what he does are all over town painting the town red. They will say its their lives and you cant tell them how to live it which is true When my friend now says buys a luxury SUV buys houses the envy will come out and say why should he be able to do this and that. So he should be punished and made to pay for their bad decisions. Like Kobe said, "where were you when I was shooting at the GYMM" I can dissect everything you wrote and how its very true but it will just be needless repetition But once again May you continue to do well and enjoy this Great land of America |

Stop dancing around..many countries are a living success of a mixed capitalist/socialist form of government..the US must adjust its approach to ensure a system is established for all and not just for a microscopic fee.. bayelsaowei:Your cluelessness should be studied. Why are the boats going to the UK then? Why are our Nigerian brothers and Indians not flooding Norway or Denmark? These coutries: Norway - 5.6 million Denmark - 6 million Netherlands - 18.2 million Spain - 49.8 million Compare those numbers with the US at over 342 million people. Denmark has residence and employment requirements affecting eligibility for certain social assistance benefits. These countries don't simply hand out every benefit to anyone who arrives. And how much taxation are their citizens willing to accept to sustain these systems? You are always pointing to the benefits while ignoring who pays for it, eligibility restrictions, and economic arrangements that make them possible. So tell us how their specific policies could be implemented and financed in a country with a much larger population like the US |
