APC And Tinubu Is Going To Lose This Coming Election. by nairalanda1(op): 3:37pm On Oct 11
And it's all down to the subsidy going....

I believe tinubu has lost the South east, largely because the South East's main industry, so to speak, is imports, and the sale of imported goods. Because the naira has been devalued, the amount of naira needed to buy forex has risen, which has made importing more expensive. Add the fuel subsidy removal making transport from the ports to the end point worse, and you have a lot of people suffering. Plus east relies heavily on food sent from the North...the grains, as well as imports, all now more costly thanks to dollars not being subsidised. As a result SE people are suffering massively .People would vote for Atiku and Obi.

Tinubu has also lost the North. Fuel should be reaching the N1500 mark by now, meaning that transport and so forth have gone up massively for many poor Northerners. Northern traders are having to deal with increased transport and other costs, ditto middle men. And the North is Nigeria's poorest region, so...there we are. Then the North has a raging insecurity problem, (it also affects the middle belt too, and the South). All that adds up to people voting for Atiku and Obi at the end of the day.

South West too is not safe, insecurity is a big problem, throw in high transport costs thanks to subsidy removal, and high costs of imports, and there you have it.

South South is going to be split between NDC and ADC.

The main thing is subsidy. In a way, with benefit of hindsight, tinubu and buhari should have supported susbdiy removal in 2012, by now the hard times from the removal would have dissipated, and assuming no changes in the leadership, there would have been enough in the reserves to pay for some limited subsides without borrowing. Instead, the best government can offer is a limited subsidy which would be paid for by borrowing.

In a way, tinubu is paying for supporting subsidy retention in 2012. He should have listened to the economists, not to the populists. But power hunger got him there (gej too should have been strong enough to remove subsidy, really tho).Had he listened to the economists, subsidy removal in 2012, would have meant that there would be no draining of the forex reserves to pay for subsidy on naira and on fuel.

Also, in 2015, APC had 15 million votes, in 2019, 19 million, 2023, 8 million. APC has been losing votes, not gaining. The signs are clear from that.

Subsidy is the issue in this election, and a good deed is going to get rewarded with removal. Funny enough, I doubt tht whoever takes over would bring back subsidy, but I do know that in 94 days time, Nigerians would vote out APC.

(I am ready to eat my words...but this is how it is going to be IMHO.)

Re: APC And Tinubu Is Going To Lose This Coming Election. by nairalanda1(op):
In 2015, many people voted against GEJ because he attempted a partial removal of subsidy. I am certain the same will happen here.

The problem is, Nigerians don't give a damm about economic policy, they give a damm about what is in their pocket at the end of the day. That;s why attempting to discuss economics here is met with abuse and so forth.

Subsidy had to go, the question was who would bell the cat. Unfortunately for tinubu, thanks to a lot of dominoes falling at certain times, it fell to him.

If GEJ had been stronger, and /or if tinubu and late buhari had held back their supporters, the cat would have been belled in 2012. Had IBB decided to listen to commonsense, instead of fear of losing power, it would have been belled in 1992/3.

Modified

Certain people think I have changed my views on subsidy removal. I haven't

Removing subsidy was the right thing to do.No one was willing to pay the price to do it until events forced its removal.

And now Tinubu is going to pay the price for not supporting its removal in 2012

He can't lose what he isn't even bothering to campaign for. He is pretty confident that the elections will be rigged for him. It is left for Nigerians to allow that or not.

Keep kwayet pls. You are getting too irritating and making nonsense epistle.

Stop talking bla bla meet us at the poll in 90 days time then we shall see who is the boss. Everytime Tinubu will these Tinubu will that pls stop talking meet us at the poll in January ok.
Re: APC And Tinubu Is Going To Lose This Coming Election. by AMINDA: 3:46pm On Oct 11
Tinubu is too scared to go to the polls as things stand today. He will rather deploy a shady practice of disenfranchisement to give himself an undue advantage as have just been done to more than half of opposition politicians across the country. They are probably running internal polls and seeing that the numbers are not favourable. Hence, the panic. The incoming government will have to do a lot of work to repair the damage that is being done to our nascent democracy.

Lol... As much as I hate Tinubu, he's not going anywhere except something drastically changes before January.

Simple question, who's the formidable option? Which candidate can single-handedly pull the numbers to defeat him? All the ones that are supposed to unite and stand as one are busy shading each other. That alone has given Tinubu victory.

Asked any of them to show you just one video of Peter Obi answering governance related questions coherently and see them fading into a thin air

For me, if I were honest, none of the candidates would be my candidate, because they are not addressing the things that need to be addressed.

Obi is my choice for now, not because I have to like him, but because he is talking and has been talking about improving domestic productivity.

If APC had taken loans for railway development, removed subsidy on electricity, and provided loans for small and medium scale industries, and for people willing to do that, provided they employed nigerians and produced at home, to reduce our import depenency, and spent more on vocational and technical education, and even done something about corruption , I may have considered voting for them. But they did not do that, since 2015, or 2023

But if I had a choice, I would have sat out the electon, or just voted for small parties.

Nigeria is effed up, whoever we choose.

Atiku by a slight margin, or it would be a runoff between Atiku and tinubu.

It's going to be narrow, that's for sure.

The biggest regret of PBAT will be the abrupt and unstrategic removal of PMS subsidy.

PBAT surrounded himself with the worst "Yes" Men and psychophants since '99 Post Democratic rule.

Imagine a C-in-C appointing the likes of Reno Omokri as an Ambassador to represent Nigeria in an international capacity. How low can PBAT go ?

PBAT doesn't have the international recognition of OBJ, the sincerity of Yaradua, the calmness of and genuineness of Goodluck Jonathan and unblemished intergrity cum ruggedness of Buhari.

PBAT through his ascension as the President of Nigeria has been demystified as a local, regional and ethnical biased champion.

Without rigging PBAT will win only S/W conservative states excluding Lagos in 2027.
