Re: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego: 9:02pm On Nov 07, 2013
As for the instantiation error, restart your Apache and MySQL. That will help, it works with AMPPS.

On the phpmyadmin, which bundle package of Apache and MySQL are you using?

Re: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego: 2:57pm On Nov 08, 2013
If you want a site like Nairaland, what you need is a component that is tailored for a Forum. You'll need the component's modules to lay out the pages.

I intend to set up an online e book store , so am in search of a credit card accepting ecommerce platform, that would allow check outs to nigeria.
can you help with information in this regard?
Re: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego: 4:03pm On Nov 10, 2013
Do you mean a payment company that accepts Nigerian cards or an extension that handles your form orders and redirects you to a payment platform that accepts Nigerian cards?

Hello,

This depends solely on the template you are using. Some FREE templates do not allow for image adjustment except, of course you pay for it or you are using a quick start.
Let us assume your template is free and allows for image adjustment. Having knowledge of HTML and CSS will go a long way to help you achieve this.

In the back-end administrative interface navigate to Extensions -> Template Manager. Select the template you want to modify and click edit. Then click the icon for Edit HTML. Keep in mind that if the new image is a different size than the original image this may change the appearance of the site in unexpected ways.
Determing the image size from your template HTML source, then use your favourite FTP to upload the necessary image(s) to your template/images folder (note the name of your image).
Most times, the name you use affects the websites if there is an override somewhere so, what I do is, use the exact name of the image I want to replace as my new image name and I do the same for the image extension too. By doing this the FTP will ask if I want to overwrite the existing image I accept it.
Then, return to your administrative back end and edit the image from its HTML source, save & close and viola!, it is done. Clear Cache and reload your website from the front-end.

Well, if you want a really pretty short-cut (which I won't advise) just download the template of your choice, unzip it, and replace the default images with those you wish to edit then, upload the template.
Note: Any mistake and you will have to go back to my first solution to correct it. (Pretty time consuming, huh?!)

If you apply a little photoshop and dreamweaver, you can do unthinkable things to a Joomla raw template.

Goodluck.

Hello,

As for what caused the crash, there are many possible causes. For instance, it would happen if you powered off the computer suddenly (which may be what you are doing) Or if you killed the MySQL Service. In theory, a virus could deliberately kill the MySQL Service Or possibly it's due to a software bug in MySQL.
Check that all the above issues are attended to and ticked clear promptly before you lay further complains.

You may have trashed your server's InnoDB tables by hard crashing. Sometimes you will need to adjust a setting in my.cnf to enable recovery mode. Often the tables are in read-only mode so you will have to make back-ups, clear out your MySQL data directory, and re-initialize MySQL with mysql-install-db to start from scratch. This should serve as a reminder to back up any and all important data.

Goodluck.

Sometimes, Mysql not starting is caused by a mysql service already running in registry.. I had a similar experience, What I did was to Uninstall my Wamp, Enter Your Registry and search for mysql and delete any search that shows MYSQL..

Then Reinstall Xampp or Wamp and Run it..
NB: This is a Clean Hack..

You Can Google "Removing MYSQL from Registry".. Cuz I myt have skipped some Steps..

You Can also scan Your system cuz a Virus might be the cause..

Joomla just got even better. From the backend, you can install thousands of scripts directly from the Joomla official website. There is no need to download and then upload. Seems so cool. You can have a look at it on the image below. It is only available for Joomla 3.2.0 upwards.

Hello,
I have a question. Though I know how to handle regular Ecommerce which include strictly sales and an integrated cart, I want to try something on Joomla!
I would build a generator set website, then create a menu item then, link and integrate an extension to enable shopping (prices and pictures) and also integrate a cart (to enable multiple purchases)

Now, my questions go thus:
1. Which extension is the best for Shopping.
2. Which extension is the best for Cart.
3. Is there an extension that can handle both shopping and cart? Which is it?
4. How do I set up the Joomla! extension for use to handle requests and accept Naira credit/debit cards? (Important)

I will appreciate specific answers and any question as regards my questions, I will be glad to clarify.

Thanks Zino, thanks everyone.
