dopeJemi: That is not how it works. There is a definition for a clear cut chance. Rooney had just 8 chances (shots at goal) at the world cup and only two were recorded as clear cut chances. For you to have a clear cut chance, you have to be unmarked, clear at goal, one vs one etc. |

Paul Scholes criticises lack of opportunities given to Jesse Lingard at Manchester United By Amitai Winehouse Posted on June 26, 2014 Paul Scholes has hit out on the lack of opportunity given to English talent at Manchester United, including Jesse Lingard, who spent last season on loan at Brighton, as written in his column at Paddy Power. Jesse Lingard is a Warrington-born attacker with significant pace and an eye for goal, as evidenced by the nine goals he scored in the Championship last year. He received opportunities to play during pre-season last year, but never an opportunity in a competitive match. In his place, Adnan Januzaj got an opportunity and went on to impress. While there are no doubts that Januzaj is an exceptional talent, Scholes questioned the decision to not even give English talent an opportunity when they are there. Scholes went as far as to suggest Lingard was the better talent during pre-season. Scholes said: “Last season at United, Lingard went on the pre-season tour, scored goals, and looked really sharp. At that time he was a better prospect, in my mind, than Adnan Januzai, but he didn’t get the chance. “I’m not questioning the talent of Januzai, but Lingard, if given the opportunity, could have done well in the first team. With his ability, Lingard deserved to challenge Shinji Kagawa for a place.” http://www.squawka.com/news/paul-scholes-criticises-lack-of-opportunities-given-to-jesse-lingard-at-manchester-united/130892 |

World Cup 2014: Paul Scholes fears for England future Paul Scholes fears England may struggle to qualify for a future World Cup after their early exit in Brazil. England finished bottom of group D after defeats by Italy and Uruguay, and a goalless draw with Costa Rica. And the former Manchester United and England star worries the national team's future prospects could diminish. "From what I've seen we'll be lucky to qualify. I fear England are going the way of the Republic of Ireland, Wales and Scotland," he said. “ The Premier League is riddled with average foreign players The 39-year-old believes Football Association chairman Greg Dyke's proposed changes to the league system has little hope of achieving its stated intent of helping England win the World Cup in 2022. ” The FA commission recommended the creation of a new tier within the Football League to accommodate Premier League B teams, a ban on non-European Union players outside of the top flight and a reduction in non-home-grown players in Premier League squads. But Scholes says England will continue to struggle unless Premier League clubs promote home-grown talent over "average" foreign imports. A State of the Game study for BBC Sport in October 2013 found English footballers account for less than a third of all the minutes played in the Premier League. "English players are not getting enough first-team time in the Premier League," Scholes added on his Paddy Power blog. "We're going backwards from 1990 and the era of Paul Gascoigne and that 'conveyor belt of talent'. "Simply, the Premier League is riddled with average foreign players. This is having such a detrimental effect on the first-team opportunities for young English talent, and our international results." Proportion of total minutes played by home-grown footballers in European leagues Nationality Percentage of total minutes played England 32.26% Spain 59% Scotland 57.19% Germany 50% http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28037068 |

* Paul Scholes- The Full story. Paul Scholes exclusive: Why Premier League clubs that buy average foreign players are killing England’s World Cup dreams The former Manchester United and England midfielder believes Premier League clubs need to put more faith in home-grown talent or the international side will struggle on the world stage. by Paul Scholes | June 26, 2014 Share Greg Dyke, the chairman of the Football Association, believes that proposed changes to the league system could help England win the World Cup in 2022. From what I’ve seen at this World Cup, we’ll be lucky to qualify. I fear England are going the way of the Republic of Ireland, Wales and Scotland. England can take some positives from the World Cup. Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge and Ross Barkley (even though he didn’t start the first two games) are a sign of the future – fast, intelligent footballers. But otherwise I’m struggling. Roy Hodgson is a likeable man who’s very good with the press. But if this was Fabio Capello he’d be getting pelters. Costa Rica, Italy and Uruguay are not special teams. We’re probably on the same level. But England have not managed to get in front in any of our World Cup games. When I said go for attacking youth in our team formation I thought we’d at least get one result. What’s the problem? Where do I start… Shoot over to all the latest World Cup odds on desktop | mobile Compared to La Liga and the Bundesliga, English players are not getting enough first-team time in the Premier League. We’re going backwards from 1990 and the era of Paul Gascoigne and that ‘conveyor belt of talent’. Simply, the Premier League is riddled with average foreign players. This is having such a detrimental effect on the first-team opportunities for young English talent, and our international results. Let’s take the example of Jesse Lingard. He’s a 21-year-old, Warrington-born Manchester United player who was farmed out on loan to Brighton. Last season at United, Lingard went on the pre-season tour, scored goals, and looked really sharp. At that time he was a better prospect, in my mind, than Adnan Januzai, but he didn’t get the chance. I’m not questioning the talent of Januzai, but Lingard, if given the opportunity, could have done well in the first team. With his ability, Lingard deserved to challenge Shinji Kagawa for a place. Cheap shot Far too often, good English prospects are put out on loan to Championship clubs, or elsewhere, at the expense of very average imports. The proposed £34m transfer for the 18-year-old Luke Shaw to Manchester United is another example of something which has a bad long-term impact. Clubs are priced out of this market which is why they go abroad for cheap options - they’re not better players. For a left-back to be worth £34m shows how silly the game has gone. For that money I want a centre-forward who’s going to score 30 goals a season. Milking the cash cow Greg Dyke’s comments on England winning the 2022 World Cup followed a four-point plan from the FA with the ambition of improving the future standard of English football. It suggests a ban on non-European Union players outside of the top flight and a reduction in non-homegrown players in Premier League squads. Players as talented as David Silva, Robin van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Eden Hazard only make the Premier League stronger. But it seems like the Premier League is known as a market for average players (or their agents) to say: I know, I’ll go to England and they’ll pay me stupid money to play. The Premier League is a cash cow and it’s hurting our national game. Yes, we should limit the amount of foreign players allowed in each Premier League squad. Clubs will then only sign the best, and English talent gets priority for development. Lower teams might be annoyed – but the best players are only going to go to the top teams anyway. Identity crisis As it is, I can’t see how we’re going to get enough good English footballers into the top teams to get the international results we want. The FA Commission report from May references the progress of football reforms in Belgium, France and Germany. We can, of course, learn from others, but as I’ve said previously, England needs to build its own identity. There’s a massive opportunity and the message needs to come from Roy Hodgson through the academies. Give England its own football identity. Tell the world – this is how we play football. Build a team around our best players, don’t change styles every two years based on copying another team that does well. Let’s make up our mind and stick with it. http://blog.paddypower.com/2014/06/26/paul-scholes-exclusive-why-premier-league-clubs-that-buy-average-foreign-players-are-killing-englands-world-cup-dreams/ e |

* James Rodriquez played 7 positions last season according to whoscored chart. Anywhere from midfield to attack (in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, etc)except the number 9 position. * Only Oscar has had a 10.0 perfect rating in this world cup. |

How do you guys see William Carvalnho? The guy is like a snail but he is a pass master. He is able to wringle himself out of difficulty to create so much space for his game. He makes it look simple but I couldn't see speed. Can he cope or adapt his game to suit the EPL? His game looks too neat womewhat. Against USA he had 43/44 correct passes. 8/8 long balls in just one half- the 2nd highest. He seems to be a master of long balls. He makes the highest number of accurate long balls in matches he plays. His tackles are usually the highest too, impressive for a DM. |

Welcome Hererra and Shaw. Although we are spending so much. We need to do anything now to go back to top 3. Let Gaal bring 8 players if he wishes. We lacked options last season and it was a major problem. Good we learnt from our mistake of last season and we are working early this summer. Vidal plsss. I like his agbero football. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Mr_TA: Missed the forums. We shouldnt even bother with james rodriguez. Would probably cost around £100m now. Top top player for sure.I don't think we were mugged, it is the unwillingness to pay the market prices of players that has mired our midfield in the shiit it currently is. demand determines market prices, not Sir Alex or Bobby Charlton & definitely not Manchester fcckin United |

elampiro: * It looks like Paul Scholes thinks Kagawa is an average player. One of those average players that riddled the Premier League.he is more on the bench cuz he's been average in England. however, this doesn't negate the fact that he's a technically better player behind the striker than most English talents. look @ the English display on the world stage, who is worth £30m on the team deservedly? yet they feel superior to players from outside UK. throw in Sturridge & Sterling in the transfer market & you'll be amazed non will be priced below £40m |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 10:27am On Jun 29, 2014 |
SailorXY: I think Sturridge is worth so much. When he was moved to the striking role he did better than Suarez. He also did well in the wing, his first touch of even a difficult long ball is so admirable. He could dribble an opponent with the trapping of a difficult ball. If he continues, he will end up as one of the best forward players ever. His improvement has been remarkable. *** As for the world stage, I think it's just a matter of time. This current squad is good and will be strong if kept together. Good the coach is retained. The coach has to find his best CD pair- may be Cahil and Jones. They need a box to box midfielder like Chamberlain. Lastly, the formation. Why not play a similar formation to Holland? Play a dribnbler and a creator like Barkley behind Rooney and Sturridge. Or play Rooney upfront and move energetic Sturridge to the wing. Rooney is still more likely to score than Sturridge, and it makes sense that someone with more energy and youthfulness drops to building role. The 4-2-3-1 was too straight forward and known to the whole world such that even journalists and bloggers dictated on their forum who should be used where in the front line. Some how, the coach find himself under pressure based on his predictable one way formation. |
