Mauritius is an lsiand located to the south eastern coast of Africa and lies east of madagascar, is a country of diverse cultures and ligions, the population consists of Hindus, creole, chinese, muslims. Christian and europens. The economy is based on textile, Tourism, Sugar and Services and also enjoys political stubility. NO VISA is required by nationals of most countries although they maybe somehow strict in enforcing that you have return/onward ticket and sufficient funds for your stay. Nationals from Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, NIGERIA, Yemen, Afghanistan and Liberia must have a Visa prior to arrival. 4 Likes |

You will only enjoy Mauritius if you are coming here to spend your hard earn money for two weeks or a month holiday relaxing and enjoying the beautiful beaches, hotels and malls, apart from the above mentioned, if your plan of coming here is for a job or studying, well i will advice you search elsewhere maybe Europe. Mauritius has only two public universities, and hundreds of study centers running UK qualifications such as ACCA, ABE etc, but if you have made up your mind to come here, make sure that you have a financial source available that will see you through your studies, including your feeding, accommodation etc, as there is no job in Mauritius to help you survive, though there is 20hrs work permit indicated on your visa, you can only work legally after getting approval from the ministry of labour which you have to appy for. Lastly do not allow anybody to process anything for you rather search online for colleges and apply, the college will process your visa for you. you check for approved colleges here. Tertiary education commission Mauritius.http://tec.intnet.mu click on public or private approved institution and courses offered. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

I have two clients in Mauritius working in a hotel presently Though, the earnings is nothing to write home about, 50-70k per month but its what they like for themselves though. So, I guess there are jobs (few though) and the pay is not that big. SHALOM 1 Like |

Don't let anyone fool you, working in hotel as what? are they on study permit or working permit? there is no hotel here that will employ a foreign student on a study permit, what the hotels normally do is that they will request for students contacts and call them whenever they have big function that their staff cannot accommodate the workload normally on weekends, apart from the fact that the hotels are scared of immigration because they risk paying heavy fines if the authority uncovers it, there is also issues of language barrier, though they also speak english, the most widely used language is french and 98% of the clients are from french speaking countries. Another fact is that if you apply for your work permit that is in your study visa, u may risk getting your study extension. Life as a student here is very tough. I am telling you the truth take it or leave it. Alot of Nigerian students here lure gullible Nigerian students promising them jobs here. it is all lies and the schools, sorry study centers are not worth it. |

The most funniest part is the way Agents together with few Nigerian students here keep panting Mauritius as some sort of job heaven, whereas alot of them has nothing to write home about but only interested in getting some money from prospective applicants. |

ukraine55: The most funniest part is the way Agents together with few Nigerian students here keep panting Mauritius You're damn right about that. Its not easy telling some people what they heard elsewhere is false. All they want is, do the visa for me when i get there I will surely succeed. So, how is studies down there? Hope you're hanging in? SHALOM |

Life is tough, racism here is even more than that of europe, the people here are purely evil, like i said earlier if you are here to spend your hard earn money, you are welcome but to struggle with Mauritian for a job slot you are in for for the shock of your life If you eventual got the job, u can't last, they will make sure u abandon the work This is not a kind of big deal job, the job i am talking about here is in the construction line doing some kind of help and minor jobs in restaurant. There also comes the high living cost with accommodation eating deep from your pocket. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Here is a little i can say about Mauritius, i live far away and only visit but i gat kidbro there. I visited Mauritius twice last year and just left also with my kid bro. I am sponsoring his education at UTM. His own story differs from yours. Also when i visited i prefer the place and environment to many places i have been. Initially i wanted him to come over to study where i am but i happened to found UTM when i traveled for a conference. The university fees are so low and cheap (1430usd) for the program compared to my end and programs are run under 3years. I visited the university and met with the Head, i was informed its a government university and i love the courses and programs they offer. I did not have a doubt and i was told they are accepting Nigerian at the first time for the program but they do have some others. I submitted his application and after 3 months he was granted admission and i was asked to pay 1540usd for fees and reg. The university requested for some docs to process his visa, within weeks i was notified he can travel. The only issue i had was selecting flight for him. That was his first time traveling and i found south African airways cheaper but i have read alot how most times the South African do have issues with Nigerian and i even called the customer care of the Airline but sounded rude that he needs visa but i told him the university said he will be granted on arrival. I decided to buy emirate for him and he enjoyed it to the core. Before he left i have found a house for him, its a 1 bedroom furnished with internet and gas to my surprise i have to pay around 25K Naira monthly so i quickly pay for 6 months. I spoke with the Landlord since it was the university that suggested the house and he seems polite. My kidbro left and he was welcomed well. I dont want him to work nor look for any job so asked him to look around, buy things and evaluate how much he can spend monthly as a reasonable boy. His university already issued him Transport pass so he can take free ride home anytime and he concluded he will be more than fine with 200USD monthly....thats what i send him monthly. Ever since the only complains he has were food, he seems not to find the right food and electronics seems expensive becos i have to purchase some for him from the US. He does not go out much nor have friends mostly at home after his skool so has never complained about racism and since he does not work or look for one he does not know about the labour market or the struggle over there. To me, i think if a student is going purely for education and he/she has a sponsor wont have any issue and the education is not bad atleast for selected programs that are somehow lacking in Nigeria. 8 Likes |

But at times due to some personal issues one may decide to find some jobs to solve the problem. Like you said, you are the one responsible for your bros upkeep and studies, thats fine. My reason of coming out here to state how things are really on this Island is to try as much as possible to prevent some Nigerians with the hope of working to sponsor their studies here. If you have a sponsor very good you can survive. Apart UOM,UTM and Open university, are the only public university and are relatively cheap, the rest are private and are not as cheap as UTM. There are some colleges that are not worth it. sometimes last year the Government has to shut down one college and deported alot of Bangladeshi students because of illegality. If you live among them u will know that they are racist. 3 Likes |
