Hello house,Hope we are all doing good?Though i hardly contribute these days,i still follow the thread each blessed day.Marriage i'll say is soo sweet, wish y'll could see my tummy now....lolz.Has anyone noticed the scarcity and increase in the price of soya bean? i notice this commodity increases by 2-5% every week.I guess its due to the high demand for it ,as more farmers are now appreciating plant protein and supplementing Fishmeal with Soya bean meal. Hmm........Has anyone come across this Legume called BAMBARA GROUNDNUT?In Africa, it is the third most commonly eaten legume after groundnut and cowpea . The seeds are used in many types of foods, some of which are an important part of human diets mostly in Northern Nigeria,Mali,Niger,Chad n Burkina Faso.Bambara Groundnut is relatively high in Protein contains 19.0% protein, 47.0% carbohydrate,4.8% ash, 7.2% moisture, 7.0% oil and 1.0% free fatty acid. Its cheaper at 65 Naira/kg than Soya which sells for 140/kg.Farmers in my hood has started utilising this precious seeds to supplement Soya, some has since stopped using Soya. The benefits of this seed is that it already contains more than enough Carbohydrates. But it lacks the necessary Amino acids needed by fish. The popular Livtovit can take care of this deficiency cos it contains all the needed minerals and Amino acids,Aquapro can also be included for improved FCR. Expert opinions are welcome.........ciao! 4 Likes 1 Share |

TOKUGAWA: Imported feeds already contains the necessary minerals n amino acids.Thank you sir. The supply of that particular groundnut is limited esp. in the south here. I think the price of agricultural produce like soya beans should be regulated. |

I want to especially commend your passion and honesty in the blog. Please can you let me know the specific information of this farm in Cotonou. I want start fish farming and I'm a complete novice, I'm kinda scarred about the business following your honest blog. I am working with a consultant here in the US (older gentleman in Aberdeen, Maryland) That's all he does with his two grown sons, and they have an aquaculture and aquaponics farm. They use the water recirculatory system which they claim can house more fishes than the flow-thru systems used in Nigeria. But I still need a lot of local knowledge. if you need their info pls contact me (I'm not an agent O ! I beg) |

Another thing is the popular Egusi we eat,it can be mixed with Bambara, Egusi has 24% protein. Mixed with Bambara .Fish oil can only be added for flavour purposes. My 2 months old fish will be starting 4mm local tororrow. Hence,I will be milling their feed tomorrow as well. I intend to use the following formula. Soya 20kg,,bambara 50kg,,GNC 20kg,,egusi 20kg,indomie 25kg,,Gala 20,local fish 20kg,broiler starter 25kg. 1 ltr of livtovit and a sachet of Aquapro. That's for 180kg. |

A satchet of Aquapro for 180kg is not enough. It is recommended to use a satchet for 50kg, so your 180kg should be about 4 satchets approx. 1 Like |
