Many people are reported to be trapped in a club house which is undergoing make over from a
bungalow to a storey building in Abuja on Friday . The collapsed building is believed to trap
many people under the rubbles most of whom are menial labourer and customers at Phase IV
road in Jikwoyi , Abuja .

Four persons have been pulled out of the collapsed building alive by rescue workers hours after
the incident and were immediately rushed in ambulances to nearby hospitals , while voices of
those trapped under the rubbles calling were heard . Many of them called for help while informing
the public that they were still alive

Workers of the club named ‘ Mimshack Arena ’ were panicking , crying while showing rescue
officials around the collapsed site . Daily Trust says one of them put the figure of people trapped
at 13 .

Residents claimed that the collapsed building belongs to a policeman called Corporal Joseph .
Emeka Ikechuckwu , a resident said some customers were drinking at the bar , while construction
work was ongoing . He said the building caved in with people inside .

One of the rescue officials at the scene complained that buildings around the area were built
with no space between them and that made it difficult for rescue vehicles to get to the victims .
Efforts to speak to the coordinator of the Abuja operations office of the National Emergency
Management Agency ( NEMA ) , Ishaya Chonoko , failed as calls to his phone were not answered .
Daily Trust later learnt that he was at the scene of the building collapse coordinating rescue
operations.

Once again, failure to follow proper building codes/laws is what led to this mess.

High time the Govt at all levels brought in stricter punishments for owners and builders of collapsed buildings...and enforced strict building codes.

One big irony.....sigh.

Still, something must be done.

I can still recall a residential building collapse in Lagos...where one man nearly lost his wife, children, mother, and some relations.(They managed to run out of the house seconds before it collapsed.).

Sigh....SCOAN building collapse was due to poor building practice...the load on top was too big for the foundation to hold.

And if you think it was explosives....it would have required a crew of dozens of people to set up. Which assumes that all of the church members of SCOAN including the security were blind at the time the explosives were being set up.

Wrong things must not be defended.

Cement companies just make the materials...it is the chaps who use the materials that should be prosecuted...that is the contractors.

This why Nigeria needs strict and enforced building codes/laws.

There does not even seem to be adequate certification for many involved in the design and building of structures, or even surveying land. There seems to be little or no interaction between construction and government, throughout the construction process.

What is the safety executive doing?

This is where a robust governing body needs to be active. Not just construction, but also mining, agriculture and the like. Is it because of the population size, that human lives are so cheap and expendable?

The owner must used them for ritual sacrifice, the owner must be fake club owner, the owner must be arrested and prosecuted....lol...I don't know why people want to bring T.B joshua down because of a collapse building like its something new in Nigeria...even Government own building do collapse in Nigeria...
if you wanna bring a man down...find a concrete evidence that the man nor any other person can't deny and before you know you see crowd stoning him.....not a bit.ch accusation.

Note: have never been to his church nor watch his channel for once. Just the fact.

RIP ot the dead.
