The Onitsha Second Niger Bridge did not affect the facilities, as the bridge is further down south of the River.. From the design they made sure that it does not touch any investment at the Harbor Industrial..

Yes SABMiller is located there, at Bridgehead Ind Layout, the former place GCM Onitsha was, the same place is Dozzy Companies, Olympick Packers, OrangeDrugs, many steel companies are there. You can site it ontop the Niger Bridge. The places are ideal for manufacting coys to be sited redcap: |

BuddahMonk:I wonder who approved a market there, when many many open spaces exist in Nkpor along the expressway. I fear that market there will defeat the new diversion under the bridge. Typically, trailers will now park on that road and buses will also be loading there. Which will ultimately create so much traffic on the new diversion that people will stop using it and returning us to square one. They should be forced to use the available land there to create a bus park and car park for their customers. They should never be allowed to park on the public highway and the area should be fenced off from the highway so that people do not extend their wares to the road.

| Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by OreMI22: 3:07pm On Oct 13, 2014 |
Schematics:One hopes that a market isn't tolerated in that tight spot. It would create so much chaos around the bridge that eventually entering into Onitsha through that bridge would be an impossible task due to heavy traffic caused by trucks waiting to offload their wares at the market. Onitsha is one city the Anambra state government must seriously regulate the rampant proliferation of markets in every tight available space, without any consideration for the impact on public utilities or the importance of a car park area for those coming to the market. I still wonder why our traders insist on crowding out the Niger bridge axis of Onitsha with markets instead of developing inland towards Nkpor / Ogbunike axis where there are lots of open spaces and available land for any type of market construction. |

That Headbridge has been sanitized so much that you cannot find any obstruction around that area anymore. The traffic flows with ease. I think that is why the government has initiated action to level that market and maybe relocate them to Oba outskirt. OreMI22:

| Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by OreMI22: 3:17pm On Oct 13, 2014 |
Schematics:I hope they relocate them to somewhere they can have enough space to ply their trade without being a nuisance to public facilities and infrastructure . I have been to Onitsha recently and have used that diversion under the bridge to Fegge and Main market. With that diversion and making sure buses aren't allowed to turn at the Atani road junction completely sanitized the area. Which is why i was concerned that more markets are being built around the area just after we just managed to sanitize the area of goats and chicken markets. |

OreMI22:I was shocked at first when I saw that market. How can a market be sited in that location?hope government is doing something about it. Chino that South african company Distell, what are they producing? I know it was peter obi that brought them into Anambra state. Buddahmonk, I don't know that ur from Anambra State. Nice input on this thread (am enjoying the thread). ![]() |

See the highlighted part concerning their products. You can also visit their site for elaborate details: www.distell.co.za This details below was as at Dec/Jan this year. I am very sure that construction must have reached advanced stage by now.. 3dankey:Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has performed the ground-breaking of the multi billion naira Distell Bottling Plant at Ozubulu Industrial Estate. The N8.5b facility was another direct foreign investment attracted by Governor Obi’s administration this year bringing to over thirty billion naira the sum of foreign investment in the State this month. The facility is a partnership between the state government and a South African beverage giant, with the state providing ten per cent of the total cost. Governor Obi said the state government was also providing the key infrastructure that will facilitate the venture, including the ongoing N12 billion Ozubulu-Atani road, adding that N6.9 billion had already been paid to the contractor. He explained that when completed the road would effectively link Onitsha Industrial Harbour area and Ozubulu Industrial Estate to further enhance their operations. The Governor disclosed that more multi-national companies were concluding arrangement to invest in the state. He urged the Ozubulu community to give the company all necessary cooperation, warning that government would not tolerate any form of distraction that would slow pace of work on the project. The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Richard Ruston, said they would commence construction as soon as all regulatory issues had been dealt with. According to Mr. Ruston, the products would include cedars and non alcoholic beverages including home grown Nigerian brands. He said the facility would create employment opportunities from the construction to production stages to the indigenes of the state. He explained that the company chose to site the facility in the state because of its investment-friendly climate, Governor Obi's strong leadership and the success of other companies operating in the state Speaking the Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Engr. Patrick Obi said called on the people of the State to be thankful to Governor Peter Obi. He said the project and similar projects in the State were successful because of his commitment and interest. The Senior Special Assistants to the Governor on Investment, Mr. Mark Okoye and that of Project Monitoring, Arc Chinelo Ofoche spoke likewise. Earlier, the Governor led the South-African investors to pay a courtesy visit to the Igwe of Ozubulu, HRH Igwe Nnamdi Oruche, who pledged the support of the town to Governor Obi in his bid to attract a lot of foreign investors to the State. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/another-multi-national-company-invests-n8-5b-in-anambra-state/170059/ |

These developments are good, but i think Anambra is still like a man driving his car hard in no particular direction like Prof Soludo said during his hey days , the spate of developments is not channelized in any particular direction thereby leading to no particular area of developments. Anambra as a leading light of the nation should take a cue from other leading lights like California in US that controls silicon valley and Hollywood with a very strong academic institute or go the way of Dubai which has invested so much in tourism sector with a very large free trade zone or go the way of shenzheng which is the largest heavy manufacturing center in the world, the investment is diverse into oil , brewery, agriculture, industrial manufacturing, automobile manufacturing , trading (wholesale and retail),transportation e.t.c where as just 1 or 2 ares are needful |

I think the direction is towards the highlighted part of your comment. With the 5 star facilities as Raddison Blu Onitsha, Agulu Lake Resort and 3 malls that are springing up will go a long way to fine-tune it as a pure tourism destination point. I heard Ogbunike Resort is equally coming on board with a 5 star facility. kettykin: |

Am from Okija, grew up at Iyiowa Odepke. I want mkt to start moving toward the Oba section, I love the way those electrical guys sited theirs there and they made sure it is far from the Osha-Owerri Rd. There is another international at that Oba, it was started by Mbadinuju financed by UBA and other firms, the mkt is of international standard but i dnt know why people are not occupying that place for close to 2decades. Govt should ban Mkts in Onitsha and Nkpor but they should be forced to move toward Ogbunike, Umunya and Oba side. I want Govt to convert that open places beside Metallurgical Training Institute. There is company called Fontop at Ozubulu Industrial Layout, the ground breaking was done by Mbadinuju, i dnt know howfa with it now but i know it has been abandoned. Many companies like meduim scale large companies that were operating before the within the Harbour Industrial Estate like- Iju Industries. BC Ifegbo. Brifina. Olympic Packers. Niger Chemicals. Iwasic. GMO...etc Our govt need to look for the owners of these coy and negotiate how they will start production again because i could rmbr when i was a kid, these coys provide uncountable employment opportunities to many people. Another thing i didnt like is the demise of GCM Onitsha, i wish SABMiller could have been sited somewhere else and GCM should be revitilize bc GCM was the highest employer of labour in Anambra State after the State Government. 3dankey: |

Someone close to obiano should advice him to get investors to erect skyscrapers around the harbour layout, those shops should be relocated immediately. Its just an eyesore. |
| Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by Nobody: 5:17pm On Oct 13, 2014 |
Yes we need skyscrapers, our skyline need to be elevated and changed for better, we need a very beautiful, thriving and robust CBD around the New Mkt Rd and Old Mkt Rd Onitsha. We need like 3 Skyscrapers to make our city command automatic respect and make it appear international and robust. Obiano should move his bulldozers to Okpoko and do the needful, Okpoko need to be opened up redcap: |

This is the new international market under construction along the express towards Oba/Obosi at the outskirt very close to the Obosi interchange. This market will go a long way in resettling some displaced businessmen in the city..
