Horn free rubbish! Mtcheeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww!!!

Right where I am in my bedroom, I can hear the sounds of horns from Ketu bus stop. In fact, na horn even wake me up sef.

Maybe one of these days, the LASG should organise an early morning free day for these imams.
Imagine, 3 mosques for one small street!

Good move on the part of LASG. Car horns are a major contributor to noise pollution all around the world. Horn only when necessary and save millions of road users from the harmful effects of unwanted sound, namely anxiety, stress and progressive sensorineural deafness.

This is not somthing that can work especially here in Lagos. i drove from Berger to Maryland, i can tell you that 90% of motorist hav use their horn. Even myself i cant count the number of time i honk my horn.
LASG should try somthing else. I dont even talk of danfo drivers, non of them can drive witout horn.

Horning things every where!!! Guys no send o..... I just hope the government would not use this to hold people later. saw VIO officials at Ojuelegba this morning taking down registration numbers of cars that blared their horns while passing the intersection under the bridge.

Drove from ifako ijaye through ogba to alausa then back to ogba and I can say I am quite impressed by what I saw. Driving has never been less stressful. There are still some mad men honking their horn (maybe due to reflex action or just stupidity), but it was drastically minimal compared to every other day. I didn't hear a single horn from ogba to alausa and back, except a mad man trying to prevent me from changing lanes when the car in front of me got broken. He honked his horn very aggressively but still don't stop me from switching lanes. That is the kind of people the government is trying to enlighten . if we are all patient, we can no I miss the unnecessary use of horns just like it is done in advanced countries.

The problem we have in this country is the fear of trying new things in every aspect. A lot of people have been screaming it is not possible to have a horn free day even when they haven't tried it out yet. I challenge anyone to go out, try it and see if it is not possible. Yes I mighpollutiousing it but with time u will definitely get used to not using ur horns unnecessarily. Rome was not built in a day, it didn't take eternity either.

I even asked a few people, even some sharp drivers are complying. One bus driver told me he though it was impossible this morning but by afternoon he was already enjoying the horn free day and that driving has been easier compared to before. I think government should make this once every month, and very soon other states will join. Lets join hands and make this country a great nation.

Last bullet: Horn free day doesn't mean horns should Not be used at all, it is only an awareness to reduce the use of horns and noise pollution. When necessary we have to make use of our horn. It is just like someone fasting, if he falls sick he has to eat something to stay healthy regardless of the fast.

What is that something else.

I don't think Lagos state is under any kind of illusion that Lagosians are ready to change their horn and noise pollution ways, but we have to start from somewhere and that somewhere is educating and sensitizing people..

We need a sane and orderly society...Rome wasn't built in a day.

As we all know, today, Oct. 15, 2014 is a horn-free day in Lagos state. Am currently at ojuelegba, 4.am and I keep hearing the blast of horns as usual.

What's the situation like at your place;

Can we truly do without blastin our horns in Lagos?
It was a lame idea right from the start.
I would if I could install trumpets, piano, trombone, siren, and knockout. Not only horn. How else do you warn those drivers who don't know the use of side mirrors? Or the ones that don't know who has the right of way in a roundabout?

Take a trip outside the country and I will enjoy the noiseless environment. People drive for weeks or even months without using their horn, in fact is some places it is a traffic offence to use ur horn unnecessarily.

The answers to your first 2 questions are yes and yes. May seem unbelievable, but if you have ever lived for a period of time outside Nigeria, you will understand.
The enlightenment part is what I can't vouch for, but if LASG can keep this up, perhaps even dedicate one day in every month to observe a "no horn" day, the trend will gradually catch on, until it becomes a part of the driving culture here.

The key word is PATIENCE.
Many people tap the horn button for no good reasons: saying hello to a friend while driving by, trying to get the attention of roadside hawkers, letting the driver ahead of you know that he's too slow for your liking...the list is as endless as it is unnecessary. Almost everyone on Lagos roads go through moments of madness between the hours of 6am till 11am, then from 5pm till about 10pm. We are all in a hurry to get to work, and then get home afterwards. These irritating horn sounds peak within these periods and it can be very annoying.
cart before the horse methinks. mentally we aren't prepared. physically there are reasons why people horn....then psychologically......

Yup. In NYC, you'll get a fine.

I actually never use my horn, ever. On the rare occasion when I would want use my horn, I actually forget to do it, and by the time I remember, the moment has passed anyway.

It can be done. But really, the government should focus on driver's education and traffic enforcement, and the car horning will reduce as a side effect. It seems like Lagos is always focusing on the side effects rather than the root cause. Like the "no drying your clothes outside" law, instead of making it possible for citizens to use electric clothing dryers. Or placing public wastebins, and coordinating public garbage collection instead of having a "cleaning day".

This is why I horn. Let the guy get out of my way. Why do people crawl then now occupy the entire space. If you want to crawl give way. .

PS I blasted my horn like mad tgua morning when a danfi stopped at the junction u was supposed to pass and was picking passengers and the goat still didn't move. I think these danfo are the main reason I horn. They should behave like other sane people and I would gladly disconnect my horn.

Its not only about noise pollution, its about trying to be sane in an insane society. Was tempted several times but resisted the need to use my horn on the way to the office. A rule in driving says we should anticipate the moves of other motorists.

How do you anticipate a mad man driving a danfo. He trafigates left and makes a sharp right turn.
