So very true, wish the new graduate know this on time.

Its not that rosy out there.

Till I started living alone,I didn't appreciate what my mum did for us the children by single handed brought us up,yet we didn't lack the basic things.

Infact,at times,I feel like hugging my mum everytime I see her.

To the new graduate, try to find something doing,no matter how small.
same here, mi mumsy is mi very first love mate. no woman can take her place..

OP all you mentioned are all on point. One basic problem students have in the university is the fact that the school system is not giving the students enough prepation for life after school. All the lecturers and fellow students do is to lay great emphasis on how to get the certificate and look for good job in the labour market which I see as a very wrong move. I am not condemning getting a degree but students need be told reality of life following present economic situation as well as population explosion.

The write-up is highly recommended for undergraduates and even young graduates. I have 2 additions:

11. [b]Identify your ideal career/job while you are an undergraduate and select a mentor in the field.
Interact with your mentor in order to be guided with the criteria for success in your chosen field e.g. the job opportunities, the professional certifications and additional skills you may need to acquire to be able to get a job after graduating or to be successful as an entrepreneur as the case may be.

12. Use your school holiday period (or any available free time like strike period or even public holidays) to acquire additional skills in what I will call back-up skills e.g. catering, carpentry, plumbing, tailoring, phone repairs, computer repairs, electrical repairs/house wiring, structure cabling, borehole drilling, poultry farming, fish farming, horticulture, cleaning and fumigation, barbing, hairdressing/braiding, make-up, interior decoration, photography/graphic art, house painting, drama/acting, songwriting etc.

If you are a Youth Corper or about to serve, use the NYSC year to also learn a back-up skill, don't just while away the service year. It is important to pick an additional skill that you have interest in to enable you connect your passion with the learning.

1. A Degree Does Not Entitle You To A Job
Yeah, we know that. That's why you should start your own business.

2. Start The Job Search Before You Graduate
Start your part time business before you graduate then you won't have to graduate! (Dell, Microsoft, Facebook were part time businesses in college)!

3. Facebook Is Forever.
Deactivate the freaking Facebook account.

4. Life Is Expensive
Move to a cheap country.

5. Never Be Scared To Take Chances
Of course, you should be scared. Just feel the fear and do it anyway.

6. Learn How To Interact With People
Bull$%"&! Interacting with a mad man is not going to get you anywhere. Find the right people to interact with.

7. A Skill Will Get You Farther Than A Certificate By A mile
Getting a skill is just a head start in the freaking rat race.

8. Save Something – Anything
It seems you are living under a rock. In case you did not get the memo, inflation is real. You are better off spending it. Or investing it in profitable ventures.

9. You Are Going To Need Lots Of Hard work
Nonsense. You need lots of smart work else you are dead.

10.Success Takes Time
It depends. You could be the child of a billionaire and inherit wealth in an instant. You could be related to a ceo and become a manger in an instant. Success is relative.

Please disregard number 1 for your own good. Finishing with a first class or upper division would take you far nigeria and abroad once you are well-informed. there are limitless opportunities for the likes. Don't be deceived
It's good to make first class, but as far as I am concerned, the most important thing is self development, this doesn't happen because you can cram pages of textbooks, it happens by working on your abilities and broadening your worldview.

Let's face it, how much can these companies even pay?
Maybe 5million per annum (this is not a fresh graduate's salary o cheesy)
While its still a respectable pay, in reality its not so much jare.
Compare this to people earning millions a month from doing what they love and you will truly understand that school is not just about using 100% of your time cramming books, many of them unclear and inapplicable in the real world.
Bottom line is work hard for your grades, but don't forget to improve yourself while in school, if you don't want to be just another employee earning bread crumbs later in life.
