- The Romans invaded and conquered Britain. - When you also look at the fact that the rise of Constantine started in York. And he subsequently started Roman Catholic drive through the Council of Nicea, that made religion part of the state - and what was to become the blueprint for all imperial European empires. In which the British empire became the pinnacle of. Hence Buzugee citing Roman Empire as metamorphosing into the British Empire. Furthermore, the United States, which is also modeled like a pseudo-British Empire looks more like a copy of republican Rome. Heck, the builders of the British Empire also saw themselves as a continuation of a tradition, culture, and legacy built by Rome.

Also, the English language is a bastard language - which might be labelled as "Anglo-Saxon" but it's more or less predominantly latin. Then you've to look at how the father of modern English language and literature, Shakespeare, also based most of his writings on Julius Caesar, Anthony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus.

From the brief explanation I made...once you look at the architecture, language, art, western system of government etc.. You will definitely see a continuity from what the Romans built, to how it transcended into the British Empire - and a continuation of that legacy in America and today's western world. And I believe that was what Buzugee was alluding to - not the simplistic understanding these airheads are giving to it.

If you're a history buff, you should be able to sift through all the extras in his posts - and get a clearer picture of what he's saying. Also, historians allude to this all the time. It was built in Rome. Expanded by the British Empire. And America continued the legacy. That's classical history right there for you.

The messenger added the racial dimension and his own bias to it, but the parallels between the two empires are taught in classical history. And that is something the simpletons who run around this forum like a pikey will never know because of the lack of knowledge, and the simplistic way in which they translate everything.

The empire never left, it metamorphosed into a different thing.

You can go further (before Rome, during Rome's reign, and after Rome) and cite the three turning points in European history: battle of marathon; the defeat of Hannibal and destruction of Carthage, especially his mistake of not destroying Rome when he had the chance to; the Christian crusaders and European Renaissance which paved the way for trans-Atlantic slavery.
