Fashola who was speaking at an occasion to handover 8.8 Megawatts Mainland Independent Power Plants (IPP) in Ikeja, Lagos said four years is enough for the Federal Government to have delivered electricity to Nigerians.

The governor who said that delivering power is not rocket science noted that Nigeria remains the only country in the world that has gas and petroleum but lacked electricity.

He noted that many countries in Europe depend on gas from Russia adding that even if Russia decides to cut off gas, they never experience power failure adding that his government has been able to deliver what it has promised.

The governor said that if the National Assembly provides the appropriate legislation that would enable states to generate and distributes electricity to Nigerians it will deliver adding that what will be required then is for Nigerians to be prepared to consume electricity according to their pockets.

The governors also faulted recent privatization of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN) noting that the process has not delivered light to the expectations of Nigerians because those who are competent were not accommodated in the privatisation process.

Speaking on criticisms that has greeted ‘ Muslim Muslim’ ticket being touted by some political parties, Fashola said that it does not matter if those who will deliver Nigerian from its current state are Muslims or Christians, adding that Muslim Muslim ticket or Christian Christian ticket will not give Nigerians energy and good roads but good people.

He challenged Nigerians that as the 2015 general elections draws close, they should see good roads, energy and the likes in the voter’s card adding that they must use it to put the right person into office.

He noted that whatever choice that is made, Nigerians will have to live with it in the next four years.

Earlier in his speech, Commissioner for Energy, Engineer Taofic Tijani said the power plant is made possible through a public private partnership between the Lagos State Government and a consortium of Mainland Power Limited, CET Power and Solad Electric Limited.

“The 8.8 Mw Mainland Power Plant will henceforth guarantee unlimited power supply to the old secretariat complex , Lagos High Court, LASUTH, water works, energy academy and public lighting”, he said.

This power plant guarantees uninterrupted power supplies to hospitals, schools, streets, public institutions and infrastructures, but the thousands of MW their country generates can not guarantee any building or structure in Nigeria including Aso Rock uninterrupted power supply?

Even states with 500MW can not guarantee any entity in their states uninterrupted power supply because everything they generate goes into the National grid and get lost in there.

The fact that because of federal monopoly, they can not transmit power to themselves is the reason why they are still in darkness with their MWs..

It seems Fashola is just playing cheap politics with Lagosians because the current electricity laws and regulations allows state governors to build power plants, embed it locally and distribute it to any target people locally without going through any national grid. This is the current situation. Fashola should stop telling wicked lies. No law stops him from building a power plant that will power ikeja for instance and distribute it using the ikeja distribution company which is now a private entity

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on Wednesday, 26th March, 2014 hosted the Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency Mallam Isa Yuguda on the occasion of the issuance of an embedded generation license to the Bauchi State Government.
The issuance of this license follows the application submitted to the Commission by the Yankari Power Company Limited on March 8th, 2012.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr. Sam Amadi, lauded the achievement of the Bauchi State government through the power company, stating that embedded generation is the immediate future of the Nigerian electricity industry and argued that this is a project that should be emulated and executed by others.
‘’We present this project as a model to other state governors. We have certified all environmental issues on the project. We feel happy about it. It is the vision of the industry to generate sufficient power for all’’ he said.
The license certificate was officially signed by the Managing Director of the company, Yankari Power Company, Dr. Mohammed Ajiya, and handed over to the Governor of Bauchi State, who urged other state governors to adopt embedded power generation and invest in power infrastructure for the development of the people.
He stated that, “This strategy you (NERC) have adopted is the best thing that has happened to Nigeria” and further stated that, “We will support the federal government in generating enough power in the shortest time”.
He lauded the regulatory work of the Commission and stated that he was happy to preside over the first state adopting embedded generation.
He commended the staff of the Commission for the excellent and professional work they are doing to ensure that Nigerians have stable and reliable power supply

I'll take these kind of posts to the ones that just insult. At least this one educates one a bit. If there has been this much development then its good to know. I hope we keep moving in the direction you stated here.

Only problem I have with this is, its only when one is not serious about achieving something is when one blames other people. If I were GEJ and he knows and has evidence that its APC that's vandalizing the pipelines, I'll use all my resources to expose them with irrefutable proof because I'll want to expose them as enemies of the country.
