cutieme:
please what procedures did you follow in getting the postgraduate admission? Please I'd like to do the sane thing @samtoog.
Had a lot to do with the contact I have over there. Getting a supervisor was my major problem. Once I was able to get one, I had my admission within 2 weeks. But I guess it all depends on your program of choice because I was admitted into a research based program. Please contact the international Office from where you can be directed isd@up.ac.za or csc@up.ac.za. Best of luck.

I am not an agent. Neither do i know anyone to refer you to.

Like i said the process is pretty straight forward and you can do it all by yourself. As long as you know you will need to be patient for the process to sort out.#for how long does the SA passport take to come out
,or the permanent residence

Since you said the father is in SA, he can send you those documents via courier to you.#okay

1. Determination of citizenship is a process where SA authorities would still determine if indeed you or your baby can be granted South African citizenship, because in some cases, a person can still lose their South African citizenship knowingly or unknowingly. This is when a person has violated several laws.#do u mean as the parents having a criminal record or how

In your baby’s case, the most important document in this regard would be his birth certificate, along with that form BI-529 which would include full details of the child (who is the main applicant in this regard), his father and mother’s details, and the reasons why he is not in SA. You can get the form at the Consulate General of South Africa . #okay,I got dis one

Note: pay attention to questions 9, 10 and 11 on that document.
Questions that are not applicable to you, make sure you mark is as “ N/A”. If you don’t know answers to certain questions be sure to write “ Do not Know”.

2. Tourists passports are same thing as “visiting “passport and normally called “Ordinary passport”. When you travel to any country in the world using that passport, it is assumed you are in that country on your own volition. If you hold a diplomatic passport and travel anywhere, it is then assumed you are representing your country wherever that passport takes you to. You don’t have to hide any passport issues you have simply because it will implicate you even more. Afterall, there must be a passport on which you departed SA with? Or did you travel using Emergency document?#yeah,I use emergency ticket,bt becos of the affidavit problem of a lost passport which I can't issue out at d counter makes me bring out my passport which they stamped overstayed there(if I didn't bring out d passport, they will never let me leave their country,u got it

3. Check with embassy about specific sizes of passport photographs there in Nigeria as i do not live in Nigeria and wouldn’t know.#okay,bt they knw what to do about passport photographs, right

4. Once your son has been determined as a South African citizen, nothing in the world stops you from applying for permanent residence either in Nigeria or in SA. But take note applications for PRP take up to 2 years!
#okay, wanna ask something here,if I apply for the permanent residence for my baby here, will it also take 2years to come out
I have stated to the best of my knowledge what would work for you. You do not need bogus people posing as agents. You can do everything by yourself. DONT PAY MONEY TO ANYBODY!!!! Take your time to gather all the documents. Write a background letter explaining the reason why you departed SA in the first place and why you intending to return. As an asylum seeker permit holder, it is deemed that you fled your country because of persecution. They grant asylum when your life is threatened in your home country or you cannot live there for political instability etc. which makes me wonder why you departed SA without getting proper advice.
#i wasn't using any paper when I was there,it was a month to my coming home dat I went to renew my rejected assylum of 2009 with money,so I can use it to collect and register
my babys birth certificate on the system
Immigration officials at OR Thabo Airports should have questioned you on your intended departure, but i guess they just wanted to get rid of another Nigerian in their country. #nope, they do question me,dats why they gave me an overstayed slip to pay before returning back to their country

Feel free to ask me anything here on the public forum so that other people in your situation can also learn from this. I will endeavour to answer you.#tanx so much, der,God bless u

I wish you all the best!
pls read up all what I reply to ur post, pls I want u to explain something well to me,pls what's d difference with having a south african id number, citizenship and permanent residence, cos my son already ve d id number, which is written inside d birth certificate and nothing again,is it permanent residence I need to apply for my son now or south african passport, cos I'm confused about d difference, and with my son only having d south african passport, can he allowed to go out of d country without any visa, pls enlighten me more on dis, tanx

Here are the differences:

South African Id- is a set of numbers that is uniquely allocated only to you and nobody else. It proves your identity. A green book called the id book is issued once you are 16yrs and above to this effect. You will need this number to apply for passport, work , loans and basically anything in South Africa.

South African Id numbers is allocated to both Permanent residence Permit holders and South African citizens.

Citizenship- simply means you are a citizen of that country. Having an ID number doesn’t make you a citizen. It only means your details are available on the National Population register/or home affairs (in this case) as a legitimate person in South Africa.

Permanent residence- means permanent residence. You have chosen SA as your home. Permanent residence holders cannot travel on SA passport. Only SA citizens can travel on SA passport.

Since you have said your son was born in SA, and has been issued a South African birth certificate, then you can apply for a SA passport for him. He can use this to travel to SA without visa.

When your son has been issued a SA passport, you as the mother of a South African citizen can apply for permanent residence permit.

In as much as i know those ECO at SAHC denies visas for the flimsiest of reasons, i suppose there could be an indication as to why they consider N700k "insufficient funds".

May i ask, what is your purpose of coming to South Africa?

tanx dear for ur clarification,is the green book(id book)also the same as south african passport,u mean if I apply for a PR,they will give me a SA id number, right, dat I can use to apply for a south african passport, pls I wanna ask,how long does it take for the south african passport to come out of the south african embassy in nigeria, and how long does it take for my permanent residence permit to come out after issuing of my babys SA passport, cos I heard it come out within 2 years,so I'm thinking of applying for it in SA at home affairs,so I want to verify frm u first, and if d case is that permanent residence gonna come out within 2years,and I urgently want to come back to SA,what kind of visa can I apply for,I heard of relative visa and also accompany. Child visa, can u explain more to me about it,and I ve an issue I wanna discuss with u,pls after paying the overstay money in d case of mine, can they grant me any visa quickly, cos I heard frm those security men, it will take up to 6month for someone dat payed his overstay money to apply, pls can u enlighten me more on dis,or its a lie,cos d lady inside at d embassy said,if I can pay the overstay money,I will be granted with a visa, need ur reply, pls

As much as your account balance is important, cash flow is more important. If your balance is 700k and that came in a few weeks or days to the time you collected your balance while you have not had any major cash flow in the same account for the period, you have not demonstrated that you have enough means of sustainance.

Cheers.

Not only account balance but movement of funds in the account. Unless you can demonstrate that the balance had been siitting in that account for a long time to show them you had been saving it for your education.

That being said, about 700k should be enough if there is cash flow. If there isn't cash flow, I would suggest between 1.5 and 3M. Those are my personal opinions please, not SA policies.

You need to get work permit from Nigeria first, not to just "travel" to SA and then work.

Cheers and all the best.

I'm actually also still clueless about that. We will need to seek for more information regarding this. I know the power of attorney is highly regarded in the South African constitution. If this however will apply to this scenario is yet to be understood.

I hope to call the Nigerian Embassy soon and hope the person I speak with understands me and gives me the right response.

Cheers.

Its pretty tricky, One of the criteria to collect the deposit is that you present a booked return ticket to depart the Republic once just before the expiration of your visa. So its like the deposit becomes your return ticket which I presume many people have. Also its a means to avoid the ease of proof of repatriation on the critical skill permit, which ought to be given by the prospective employer. I hope to get back on this too ASAP. Should visit the Embassy in Lagos in December and I will update the house on my finding.
