Babangida knew that Idiagbon was the only obstacle to the success of the coup that is why they waited for him to travel out of the country before staging the coup.

Buhari was just a figure head in that government. The overthrow of buhari was very easy once Idiagbon was out of the country. Babangida just placed a call to buhari that he should vacate dodan barracks within 15mins and the mumu Buhari vacated the seat in less than 10 minutes. Even faster than the requested time.
