cannonnier:
Fulanis did not exactly wrestle power from hausas. What happen was that fulanis were pagans originally and the hausas were idolaters, so when the conquest of Islam in hausa land took place fulanis were bestowed power because of their neutrality in religious belief.

That how they came to power over the hausas, but it was so harmonious that there wasn't any struggle for power in the aftermath.

Islam came to North through Muslim traders probably during the umayyad and was well established in the kanem empire(burno), the later conquest was by the kanemis.
But some scholars argue that it was a joint conquest, i.e kanem and umayyad.

If you seek the origin of hausa, you will have to go too back in ages and most likely you will end in contemplation.
