I think about 5million is needed. As at Sunday the op said he has slightly above 200k from Nairaland donations. which means by now the OP may have around 300k more or less from nairaland donations.

he has a chronic liver disease.. infact he might need as much as 5m. only the op knows how much he has gotten so far. some people av asked him to refrain from posting the amount he has gotten so we don't know how much he has yet. many nairalanders have suggested teaching hospital like UCH or LUTH as well as flying him abroad. but eventually his family suggested an hospital in abeokuta which many nairalanders objected to and are skeptical about..some pple av tried convincing the mother but she said the place is ok and similar cases av been treated there. so at the moment he should be in Abeokuta. we are praying things go right. it is a critical sickness that ought to even be treated abroad. you can check page 1, 2 or 3 for his picture.

Definitive diagnosis is only made after a biopsy and not from a scan
Those differentials listed are pretty much on the money
They don't do liver biopsy in Nigeria,at least I have never heard of it but the blood tests and symptoms can pretty much tell what the patient has.
The scans and biopsies are just further confirmatory for what they suspect
Ascites is not a diagnosis,it is a symptom

Having a scan with no further plan as to what to do with the result is a waste of money
The scan won't tell anything much different from what they already know especially if there is no plan to solve the problem
After the scan what next?

This depends on the diagnosis the the Consultant is homing in on.

I wouldn't know what sorta tests/scans is done in Nigeria, but because of the "M" used before the "A" word which is used when one is talking about the big "C", further investigative scan (which might not require a liver biopsy) up is needed to arrive at a definitive diagnosis to find out the cause of the suspected CLD, the extent of liver cells inflammation or damage, correct patient management which might involve referring or transferring the patient to an hospital within or outside Nigerian.
