Orikinla: How much is Buhari paying you to destroy Fela's image? Fela is now a bad guy because he questioned Buhari on the stolen $2.5bil at the ministry of which he was head. Haba! How do you defend the same Buhari allowing 53 suitcases filled with dollars to pass through same airport. Its a pity Fela didn't have a son working as ADC to Buhari like the Emir of Gwandu. 9 Likes |

Lesser known was the traumatic experience of the director of an international communication agency, an affiliate of UNESCO. Akin Fatoyinbo arrived at the airport in complete ignorance of the new currency decree. He was thrown in gaol in especially brutal condition, an experience from which he never fully recovered. It took several months of high-level intervention before that innocent man was eventually freed. These were not exceptional but mere sample cases from among hundreds of others, victims of a decree that was selectively applied, a decree that routinely penalized innocents and ruined the careers and businesses of many. http://www.opinions.ng/the-crimes-of-buhari/ 4 Likes |

barcanista: Apart from the fact that some emirs were given preferential treatment, that law itself is as boneheaded as they come! How can the economy of any nation survive if the country's international businessmen can not handle any foreign currency? That's not fight against corruption, that's plain stup.i.dit.y! 4 Likes |

Mogidi:: Buhari replies Jonathan, explains ‘53 suitcases’ saga (Read 2990 times) mary123 (403) Upcoming (f) | 3 years ago Buhari replies Jonathan, explains ‘53 suitcases’ saga Monday, 21 March 2011 00:00 Nuruddeen M. Abdallah & Yushaú A Ibrahim, Dutse E-mail Print PDF 138Share [General Muhammadu Buhari ] General Muhammadu Buhari The Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) retired General Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Jigawa State described the allegation of corruption levelled against him by the President Goodluck Jonathan campaign team as “nonsense, untrue and unfounded.” The Director, Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Mike Omeri had in a press statement accused General Buhari of exhibiting double standard in public administration while in government. Speaking to newsmen in Dutse, General Buhari said there is no iota of truth in the entire allegation, adding that “what happened was that, we have a policy during my regime that anybody that comes into the country his/her luggage should be checked at the Airport”. Later in a statement issued by his spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, Buhari said, “Our attention has been drawn to another lousy outing by President Goodluck Jonathan’s ‘Chemical Ali,’ Mike Omeri...who ran to foul the atmosphere with a thoughtless charge that General Buhari is not sincere about his resolve to rid Nigeria of corruption.” He said Omeri’s only evidence to support his assertion is the fabled “53 suitcases” of 1984. Buhari explained thus: “in 1984, the Emir of Gwandu whose son (Almustapha Jokolo) was ADC to General Buhari was returning to the country from overseas. The head of state, on learning of his arrival, asked his son to go and receive him at the airport as they were only playing squash at the time.” “Coincidentally, the Nigerian ambassador to Libya at the time, Dr Tahir Waziri had arrived at the same time with the emir with his three wives and 16 children. They all came with their belongings as he was coming home to take up a new appointment as chief of protocol to the head of state.” “It was the suitcases of the family of 20 that were counted as belonging to the emir and falsely presented to the public. General Buhari has over the years asked those who have questions over the matter to go to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was at the head of Customs operations at the airport on the day,” his spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Buhari has asked Jonathan to explain “what happened to the case of N104m seized from Nancy Ebere Nwosu who allegedly swore to an affidavit to the EFCC that she was laundering money for Dame Patience Jonathan.” He also wants the president to explain “the announcement by the then EFCC spokesman, Mr Osita Nwajah on September 11, 2006 that the sum of USD13.5 million was seized from another associate of Mrs. Jonathan which the anti-graft body said belonged to the now first lady.” Buhari says Nigerians need an explanation on “who presided over the FEC meeting on October 2009, where a 4 km runway at Abuja Airport was awarded for N64bn? Whereas, late President Yar’adua was already in Saudi Hospital as at the time!” Also, Nigerians need to know “what happened to the USD30billion Yar’adua left in the excess crude account that is virtually empty now? The spokesperson explained that no amount of cheap blackmail will stop the desired change Nigerians are poised to effect in April polls. 3 Likes |

mikeansy: There was a clear decree against the keeping of foreign accounts, and this was what emerged from the Austrian escapade. Alhaji Alhaji kept, not one, but several undeclared foreign accounts, and he had no business being in possession of the large amount of foreign currency of which he was robbed by his overnight companion. The media screamed for an even application of the law, but Buhari had turned suddenly deaf. By contrast, Fela Anikulapo languished in goal for years, sentenced under that very draconian decree. His crime was being in possession of foreign exchange that he had legitimately received for the immediate upkeep of his band as they set off for an international engagement. A vicious sentence was slapped down on Fela by a judge who later became so remorse stricken at least after Buhari’s overthrow that he went to the King of Afro-beat and apologized. http://www.opinions.ng/the-crimes-of-buhari/ 1 Like |

If i understand what money laundering is, the man fela did not commit a crime, if he is going with 45 people as confirmed in your post, dividing that amount found on him among those people or are you saying those people should not be taken care of? 1 Like |

The blind stupidity and loyalty of some Nigerians never ceases to amaze me.... I do not blame the politicians, after all the saying that "a people get the government they deserve" is very true.... At this point I dont even blame the politicians for the state of the nation....it is the idiot Nigerians who never take them to task who I blame for the record i support no party in Nigeria they are as bad as each other, but just because you are a supporter of Buhari doesnt mean you cannot admit that it was a politically motivated arrest and he was wrong... some of us were around at that time so we know what happened, fela was travelling to a concert with 36 band members, as the band leader all the money was with him £1600... only a complete slowpoke would assume that the £1600 were for him alone and that the other 36 would be travelling without one penny between all of them..... No other money was found on any of the people travelling with him so his assertion that the money was the travelling expenses for the entire group is entirely plausible.... He simply kept all the money in one place rather than divide it up amongst everybody, yet people are insisting that for this a 10 year sentence was justifiable....... bloody illiterates ...... thats why the country is in the state its in 6 Likes |
