Tragedy struck yesterday as a fresh graduate of the Imo State University took his last breath as students poured him water in jubilation of final year completion.

What seem to be jubilation turned into a gathering of sorrow when the victim was running away from a number of students who pursued after him to pour dirty water on him. In that quest to dodge the water being poured on him, he fell into a soak-away pit and got drowned.

The dirty water from the pit however is partially passing a light current as the pit is dug beside their transformer where earth-wire is buried.

Pouring of water has been banned in schools but some students would not obey this.

Many students in this light unaccepted celebration of final papers have been injured, poured acid and some other dangerous liquids while some other persons have gone to the great beyond via this.

I think every final year student should learn from this as well as those who dedicate them to pouring water on university finalists.

Pouring of water on students should be banned in ALL schools.

This is not in any way a good practice. I never heard of such until last year. It should be abolished as it is an unhealthy practice.

Pretty baffles me why school authorities and securities in public universities in Nigeria can't put a full ban to this rubbish.
Some students would even go to the extent of buying a full crate of egg,mixed with urine and dirty water stored for days and pour it on fresh graduates who just finished their final exams..

b4 for My uni, if sum1 is matriculating....dirty water. writing his/her final paper....dirty water. but d tin is improving recently.....frm dirty water to wine. + sum wicked pple go carry sachet of pure water de stone d fyb 4 anywhere wen dem c....My frnd take off wen he wryt him final paper, but dem catch am sha. bcux he take off dem pour am alcohol 4.........guex Where.

Why do I not believe this story?
The whole storyline and picture smells funny.

Jesus! This practice initially evolved as harmless fun but students out of exuberance continually created more harmful ways of celebrating with the graduands. I remember when I did my final exam, they poured water mixed with palm oil on me at the hostel and that was it. I didn't even run away from them and the students weren't unduly physical. But now you see students mixing all sorts of dangerous things together. It was just fun before but now it is getting out of hand and should be banned. After spending 4 or 5 years in school, his hopes and dreams have just been brought to a cruel end. May his soul R.I.P

Yea anybody could fall into the pit. I thought it was the content of the liquid that killed.... If atall the story is true..

I don't know about others, but as a loner (and still is) no one dares try such with me.
Now see what this rubbish culture has lead to. If you must celebrate why not buy drinks or cook some food and celebrate with your "so called" friends.
Graduating from a school is just another step, to greater things. On that day you should be reflecting on the next thing in your list of achievable goals.
