Lagos APC Aspirants Set For Gov Primaries by okon11(op): 12:14am On Dec 01, 2014
In anticipation of the much awaited December 3 gubernatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, campaigns are in top gear in all parts of the state for aspirants hoping to woo delegates.

With the decision of the party hierarchy to allow for free and fair primaries, aspirants are out to test their popularity in the race, which has no fewer than 10 aspirants.
Some of the aspirants include former Accountant-General of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, serving senator, Ganiyu Solomon, and former Commissioner for Health, Leke Pitan.

Others are former Attorney-General of the state, Supo Sasore, former Commissioner for Special Duties, Tola Kasali, Tayo Ayinde, Tokunbo Wahab and Adetokunbo Tobun-Agbesanwa, the only female aspirant in the race.

It had been alleged before now that Ambode was the 'anointed' candidate of the APC to fly the party's flag in the February 28 governorship election, but this did not go down well with other aspirants and their supporters who threatened to embark on protests.

There were also indications last week that Sasore, who recently declared his intention to run for the election, may spring a surprise at the primary. Sasore is alleged to have the backing of Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola.

Solomon's bid has also received a boost as two aspirants stepped down for him to emerge as consensus candidate from Ikorodu Division.
Solomon is banking on his grassroots popularity to clinch the ticket.

Hamzat, on his part, is said to be relying on his experience, which has seen him work closely with former governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as Fashola.

Meanwhile, the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) upstaging the APC in Lagos in the governorship election took a dip on Saturday as six stalwarts of the party defected to the APC with thousands of their supporters.

Among them are former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Rafiu Jafojo, and former chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association in the state, Abayomi Finnih, as well as Tunde Daramola, a former financial secretary of the PDP in the state, Mrs. Oluwole, Alhaji Okanlawon and Segun Adeyemi.

To me the name I highlighted above is the most qualified as he is the only one that I can say has really worked very hard by travelling to the nooks and crannies of the state and engaged with everybody.Ambode deserves it

At last Lagos APC will have the much-demanded primaries, this is very commendable and a victory for democracy.I hope those aspirants who shouted at the top of their voices have done enough campaigning and lobbying and that they will accept the result of the primary even if it doesn't favour them

Yes,in my assessment, all of them are qualified, though some have EFCC,ICPC and court cases hanging over their heads, while all are qualified, some of them have not really done any serious thing to show they are serious about their so-called ambition.Apart from Akinwunmi Ambode and to a lesser extent,Ikuforiji. No other aspirant actually held an official declaration, infact some of them are still in the race just hoping some stroke of fate will happen to knock off the front runner;in the person of Ambode and they may be called upon to bear the torch.APC delegates please don't reward indolence and laziness with your votes

This will just be a mere formality because a greater majority of all the local government delegates who will vote at the primaries have already endorsed Ambode because of the records of performance he has with them when they worked together, plus the fact that the party elders have also endorsed him,so he will win by a wide margin

That is very true....he has being the one keeping the process alive with his tours...

He has the best chance......Supo Sasore and Hamzat too.

Any of these three can contniue and surpass with the standard of BRF...Lagos doesn't deserve less.

BRF has set a standard for Lagos that cannot be allow to be brought down by a professional politician.

Ambode is definitely the best man for the Job, his qualities and achievements speak for him.
He toured all the 20 LGS and held a massive declaration at Onikan stadium.
The man deserves the ticket, as for the others apart from leke pitan and ikuforiji they are all lazy and expect to win tickets on newspaper pages.
If ambode wins the ticket they will complain of rigging not laziness.

Ambode is the only one that came o my local government to meet with people. The rest are probably thinking they will just settle the delegates and that is all that matters. They should better pick him
Re: Lagos APC Aspirants Set For Gov Primaries by mrmetoo1: 12:14pm On Dec 02, 2014
I'm not sure if he has a chance against Ambode just because I feel like he's coming in late in the game but I want Shasore to be the candidate. He sounds very learned, he just seems like a modern guy.

All the aspirants (Though not really comfortable with Ganiyu Solomon) will make wonderful Governors. I wish Lagos State can have them all at the same time. Anyway, I am rooting for...

Ambode- First Choice

Hamzat- Second Choice

Sasore- 3rd Choice

Pitan- Forth Choice

Idris- 5th Choice...

GOS- Not even an option.

As for PDP, they should forget it.
