@stagger, thanks so much for your contribution. you are a great man.
I still hope to hear from jeffmyson and Denn, I really respect you guys knowledge of business and your contributions here and many others.

@stagger and blink182, i see where both of you are angered and i feel all of us following this thread see that too, but the point is, it doesn't matter. its a small world and don't be surprised, you guys might meet in person and like each other from the first day. so i feel its ok with the exchange of words, if you guys continue then you guys will prove that you are selfish by turning a thread that is helping many people to be about you two alone, which is not fair at all.

It takes the strongest to say sorry truthfully to the other party and make up. even if he/she is right. we don't need this. both of you don't need this either. check deep down your hearts and you will discover you don't need it.

@Denn and jeffmyson, still hoping to hear from you guys and any other person that has a contribution for me, i will truthfully appreciate from my heart.

finally all of you guys contributing to this thread are great!

I will advise you to process your paperworks necessary for Nafdac certification like the trademarks and co, while you await the second tranche in order to start up.
@jeffmyson, thanks so much. please explain the quoted part above for me. thanks again

Hi.

I think you should go for a Capfund facility to start up. You can get up to 3.5m for equipment without collateral.

They have a list of equipment vendors you can buy from but fortunately FIIRO is one of their accredited plantain processing equipment suppliers.

Basically, I'm suggesting you contact them, they will link you up with a Business Support Provider who will help you think through and put your application together.

Start the process right away so you stand a chance of possible disbursement by January ending/early February. Invest some part of your N1m on renting (not leasing o) the 4 room apartment jeffmyson mentioned and in commencing your NAFDAC registration process. Please remember to keep some of the N1m for buying plantain bunches o so you can at least cover some of your other current expenses with a measure of revenue.

Mentioning that you are a Youwin awardee, explaining your 'situation' (and taking your FG agreement/tranche disbursement schedule along) might help. And ultimately, your Youwin monitor will 'hopefully' appreciate your efforts with a N1m disbursement and trigger your next tranche before you get too wound up with salaries and all.

Oh, and the Capfund has a moratorium of 6months too.

All the best and and may your efforts work out for your good!

Cheers!

jeffmyson:
@chukwuka12, there are people who start poultry with 2M total Capital.

If someone get 2M as first tranche it is more than enough for him to start a farm that can roll in some cashflow while he waits for second tranche to expand the business.

The person can start for instance with Broilers that have a maturity period of 8 weeks Max and learn some valuable lessons from the experience and when second tranche come he can expand the business and incorporate layers!

The first tranche should be for you to test the waters and improve your business and management skills before the second one comes.

All man to himself anyway! Lack of Money is not the cause of business failures in 70% of the cases but poor management and lack of skills/ experience.

To be honest 2m enof to comfortably start a poultry farm.... However I think I will have to talk with my mentor... Cruz I have been thinking it to, but wanted to develop my own place... Since the mentor will be d one approving the trenches.... I suggest we all carry them along in what ever plans we have B4 starting.....

Cheers

Good morning fellow mllionaires. At this point we have to mebark on prayer and fasting. I heard last week precisely that the by Monday 1st Dec ( 3 days ago) the first tranche was to be released to banks 4 immediate disbusement, but I expected through out Monday no alert, yesterday I vistited my bank, but I was told they too are still expecting to hear from YouWiN!

Our agitation for speedy release is because we really want to make the best of this YouWiN! program, for ourselves, the YouWiN! team and Nigeria as a country (just like someone rightly observed.

At this point, all we can do is prayer and fasting. I will sugest that we declare tomorrow Thur 4th Dec prayer and fasting for the immediate release of this first tranche before its too late.

Hahahaha! You have not even started the journey and you have started complaining, I want to tell you something, Don't make your plan based on YouWIN promises. I always tell awardees that if youwin promise 1 month, add 2months and half to it making 3 months and half before expecting... They would frustrate your plan.

In YouWIN 1 they frustrated us so much and from experience, just make sure until you see the money before ordering anything. Make sure 2nd tranche is enough to kick start your business.

Watch and pray... That's all.
Delay ain't denial...
We are already winners.. So even if the 1st trench is in march we will still be greatful and use it well..

However I pray we get it this month... I was hoping this week, but let's pray it comes in this month...

With all this delay in the 1st trench it means that we are in for a crazy ride... It has really spoilt all initial plans that we have made...

They said soon, and we are hopeful...

I was thinking that the 75 page will be fr those that got alert... 4 now we De like Dele and looking like lucozed...

It is well

well. Youwin 1 is the first project attempt on youwin, by now they should have step up in the administrative proccedure. Youwin 3 is a lttle bit different, considering the timeline is over a year now, with introduction of interview, because they spend three month waiting for first tranche in youwin 1 does not mean that our own must tarry to that extent. All the same , this week is not gone yet.

I understand that GTB has about 250 accounts allocated to them for Youwin! 3. It has already been correctly said by someone on this thread that Youwin! has asked the banks to send weekly reports on account opening progress. My contact said when they sent the report last week, only about 100 accounts had been opened. Youwin! complained that it was too small to release funds - which they prefer to do in bulk!. My contact told me as at now, about 150 accounts have been opened, and that d 1st tranche funds are available, but slow progress from awardees in opening account is stalling things - not the banks or Youwin!. Now this is only for GTB, I don’t know for other banks.
Re: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by Ibrahym(m): 1:29am On Dec 04, 2014
@Terry1, to add to what stagger, chukwuka12 and jeffmyson have said with regards to what to do with your 1st tranche, I’ll repeat that you cannot get Nafdac registration until you have fully setup the factory for inspection and produced samples for testing.

For my own food processing business, my forecast in the business plan to start generating revenue is from month 7, which is when I hope to have setup the factory (about 2-3 months including importing period for machines) and obtained Nafdac registration (additional 2-4 months). [I have a friend who argues I don’t need Nafcac registration for before selling, which I disagree].

Please if I may ask, how much personal funds were you looking to bring in, apart from the N7m (now N5m) from Youwin! for the plantain flour processing, because I am wondering how that would have been adequate. I have to bring in N4m in addition to Youwin! N10m for my business. I’ll still need more as I noticed an error in the Youwin! financial template structure which affected my forecast, because while revenue is generated in the previous month before expenses is deducted to give you your remaining cash flow monthly, in the month 7 I’ll commence bulk purchases of primary raw materials, I’ll need much more than what is in the remaining cash flow. As Denn once said, you guys should all review your business plans to ensure no stone is unturned.

This is why I said in an earlier post that the focus should be on getting people to submit the requirements for account opening early. The focus here now should be on telling awardees how they can get their TIN and referee reports, which are the two documents that delay account opening.
Re: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by Ibrahym(m): 1:34am On Dec 04, 2014
As we all wait for the 1st tranche, my strategy for now is to take my time as YouWin! payments dictates, I’ll also gradually bring in my own funds - I don’t even have all of it now. I am not in a hurry because I am still working (I advice that no one should resign except they have other sources of additional funds to commence their business). My 1st tranche will be used for land (either buy land or rent a suitable property - not yet decided as it depends on what I can get), trademark registration and any initial site work. Then I’ll get invoices and proforma for equipment, machines, generator, BOQ for any buildings/construction, estimates for Nafdac registrations to support tranche 2 trigger, quotations for any marketing, etc. These will support 2nd tranche request.

Tranche 2 will generally depend on how fast you can trigger your request. For Youwin 2, the 1st tranche was paid sometime between end of September and early November 2013 - can’t remember exact dates, while 2nd tranche was paid in December 2013. This was the case for people who triggered 2nd tranche request early, had good documentation which was Ok for the monitors; other people may have had different experiences which led to delayed payments. Their 3rd tranche was mostly paid in July 2014.

Generally, everyone’s business is different as well as the plans, so what you can do with your tranches will vary. Overall, if you are going to do something different from what was in your winning business plan, it will be advisable to get consent of your monitor(s) or at least be able to defend your decisions when they come knocking. Don’t forget they may not even show up until after you trigger 2nd tranche request.

@Beedee777
Good you raised opportunities through the CAPFund. I have issues with the fund as follows:

(1) The prices of the equipment I was interested in as per their list of accredited suppliers were too high. Although a BOI official I met during the MSME Summit told me I can discuss and negotiate with the suppliers, I’m not sure one can get a great deal. You cannot introduce suppliers or tell them you want to buy from your own source.

(2) One requires 2 guarantors from any of the following 3 (a) Assistant Director or higher in civil service (b) a Lawyer - SAN (c) Manager or higher level in a bank. How easy can one get such people, and how easy will they be able to stand as guarantor for you without feeling sooooo uncomfortable? - I think it’s a tough one or at least I dont have such people!

Before I forget, I think I was also told it cannot be assessed by start-ups. This has also put me off, at least until next year - if I still need it. The BOI guy I met said it may be possible but tough to make a case for a start-up though.

Though, it appears that "utimatedes" is making mockery of the fasting, but ironically, he ended up giving me more strong reasons to join in the fasting and prayer. Yes, the fact that there was undue delay in YouWiN 1 does not make it right and it also does not mean the trend MUST continue. And that is the more reasons why we MUST ALL fast and pray to change the tide.

We, the youths are suppose to change the abnormalities in the society because we are the future of this country. That is why whenever I visit this thread I always see hope for this country: from the communal spirit and the mature way we comport ourselves I am sure that God is raising future leaders of this country who will restore again the pride of the "Giant of Africa" and I know that Nigeria shall still take her rightful place in the Comity of Nations.

Therefore, I encourage my fellow millionaires NOT to allow any form of discouragement.

Let us all embark on the prayer and fasting, so that God can intervene.

God bless u "Ibrahym" This your post give hope to the success of this YouWiN! and will lift some of us who have been thinking about previous comments by past awardees "that how can it just be a trend that 1st tranche will be after 3 and half month, 2nd tranche 7 months after (that is already 10 and half months of frustration)." That means some of them use their peculiar experience to generalize and weaken new awardees.

Fellow awardees, lets NOT be discouraged. Once more, let us embark on the prayer and fasting to change all abnormalities in this credible program. Those, who might have been discourage and miss today's fating and prayer should please embark on their own tomorrow Friday 5th December.

In fact, I am going on three days fasting and prayer, not just for this YouWiN 3, but also for subsequent ones. I don't pray that future winners continue to experience this type of delay that has adversely affected every awardee.

I completely disagree with the contact that gave such excuse for the following reasons:
1. Most of the banks officials did not demand for refree (as the account managers provided the referees)
2. For previous YouWiN editions first tranche was released in batches as account opening as ready
3. I make bold to declare that as at today there is NO awardee that has not finalised their parts of acount opening. PLEASE IF THERE IS ANY AWARDEE THAT IS STILL HAVING PROBLEM WITH ACCOUNT OPENING THEY SHOULD PLEASE SPEAK OUT so that we can advise on next line of action to solve any problem such person(s) may have

@ibrahym those gtb officials are lying through their teeth. They are as slow as snails and grossly incompetent. Some account packages were submitted since the first day with all documents intact and the accounts were not opened for weeks. Personally, i havent even been debited for cheque book or given internet banking access. They shld stop shifting the blame to the awardees.
