Hi fellow nairalanders. I want to know your view on
issue of laminating certificates, especially those that
have had the opportunity of travelling abroad. Some
say lamination of certificate is the best option to
preserve it because any slight alteration renders it
useless and valueless and you know it's not easy
to get another once it is altered.

While some say
many foreign establishments and even embassy
reject laminated certificate.

Please what are your
views on it?
Yes, it's necessary in order to protect them. Organization like embassies don't reject laminated certificates but would rather confim the genuineity of these documents.

Why not try and SCAN all ur Certs and Documents, save them in your email inbox or draft. They remain safe in there. I ve seen someone trying to laminate his Degree certificate, they end up burning more than half of the certificate due to leaving the laminating machine to get over heated before laminating.
Re: Is It Good To Laminate One's Certificates? by Dee60: 10:33am On Dec 08, 2014
CAPITAL NO!!!

Laminated certificates are not tenable in some countries e.g Canada.
Re: Is It Good To Laminate One's Certificates? by ntyce(m): 10:40am On Dec 08, 2014
Not advisable, once you scan it the security features can't be accessed again. Watermarks can't be read, thickness can't be verified.

Re: Is It Good To Laminate One's Certificates? by GodsKate: 10:55am On Dec 08, 2014
Its no longer advisable because it destroys the SEAL on it. Embassies has also advised against it because if this.
Simply keep it in a laminating film but don't laminate it.
Alternatively, buy A4 size transparent nylon paper from any bookshop near you.

Re: Is It Good To Laminate One's Certificates? by Originalsly: 12:22pm On Dec 08, 2014
DO NOT ever laminate your certificates...birth certificates, naturalization certificate or whatever. It would be unacceptable by embassies and schools, hospitals etc that are up to international standard practices. If you need to...have it framed like a photo..or for storage keep in plastic. People do make copies and have the copy laminated. If you already laminated your certificates I suggest you start now to get them replaced....it will take some time and would not be cheap.

laminted documents kinda obstruct mercury light verification
Re: Is It Good To Laminate One's Certificates? by profeoo(m): 12:37pm On Dec 08, 2014
Lamination helps preserve your certificates for a long period. However, when laminated,it is difficult to vet if its original or not. Recall that all these cert has a watermark that can be used to acertain the authenticity of the cert,so if the lamination prevents that from happening, how can they verify its originality? Hence it devalues your certs

Last bullet: dnt laminate bt strive to preserve it!

I was once warned by waec official when i received the reprinted copy of my Waec cert never to laminate because if i do waec will never accept it incase of any future complaint and that with time laminated document tend to swell why some of the signature and official stamp will be distort. It had happened to my statement of result after some years, thank God i never laminate my original certs. I use soft nylon A4 size with folder and guest what, my cert look like day old each time i see them.

Pamcrest:
Op, scan it and save it. Then laminate the original certificate to preserve it. Whenever u need to give out original copies, just print out d scanned copy on colour printer. I have seen it done and it was accepted.
My humble submission
Scanning after lamination doesn't alter it,right?
