How to remove lamination from a certificate” you get a lot of information on the lamination process , some wet blankets ( can’t be done, just apply for a new certificate ) and a couple of brave hearts who suggestipping your certificate in hot water or even better, solvent.

But here ladies and gentlemen is the patented ( not to mention tested ),painless, totally guaranteed, five minute  method of DIY delamination.
Equipment needed – Certificate to be delaminated ( duh ! ), a sharp pair of scissors and a hair dryer
Step 1

Cut the edge of the plastic as close to the certificate as possible without cutting the paper.
Step 2
Carefully examine the cut edge and find a gap between the plastic and the paper. Enlarge the gap with your nail or a safety pin, taking care not to peel paper.
Step 3

Use the hair dryer to gently heat the cut edge and carefully peel off the plastic. I think the heat melts the adhesive and makes the process totally smooth.

@All, Do it with Care. You May try it out with non-important documents you laminated if you doubt it before you go on with your vital document.N/B, its not scientifically proven but if it is done with Extreme Care you'll get a positive result.

I actually tried it on my BSc certificate and it worked. The ink faded just a little but it was much better than losing the certificate totally. It was really a relief cheesy

I tried to create a thread to help people but the moderator would not allow it. I know not why......

Anyways, hope this information helps you and anyone who may be bold enough to try it.

All the best!!!

I had all my official documents like certificates laminated. At some point I needed to authenticate and legalise some of them so I started to find answers on the internet.

Got a guy in India who charges $40 per document and to think of cost of sending it there. Other information I found would leave you with a burnt, deformed certificate/document.

Then I read somewhere on the internet where it was suggested to use hair dryer. Then, I thought within myself I could use a hot air gun (this I already have at home).

Do not think it's a stroll in the park. It certainly isn't!

Truth be told I was scared and nervous initially, so I started out with the document I felt was less important like my 'Statement of Result' as I could do without it since I had the original certificate.

Things needed...

1. The laminated documents whose laminate you want to remove.
2. Hot air gun (this is what I used), hair dryer. Please, don't use hot iron ooooo. I tried using it but got the document all melted.
3. A pair of twizzers but you can do without it.
4. A pair of scissors.

How to do it....

1. Cut the edge of the laminate to expose the document in-between.
2. Using the hot air gun (with temperature of the heater set to the lowest), apply enough heat which will melt the adhesive in between.
3. Using the twizzers or your fingers, pry open or separate the document from the laminate.
4. Now you should have the laminate separated from the document.
5. Gently continue to apply the heat and as you see the adhesive giving way gently or melting, gently pull the laminate off the document. Note the word 'GENTLY'. This is very important else you will pull along part of the document.
6. Apply the same process through out and you will have your document/certificate in whole.

All the best.

Please, kindly share your experience when you do try it.
