am on it too....already applied for 17 jobs @ 17 diff companies nd saved 20 jobs already,,,,buh no calls,text or mail yet regarding to their feedbacks,,,despite d fact dah my c.v is filled wit professional exams....pls,am i missing sometin??

Nigerian employers are just too proud and full of themselves, they'd rather put up ads in the pages of the newspapers and have job seekers flock to them in droves for interview, than taking the time to look through ones Linkedin profile and calling them up for an interview. My point is, they prefer to have people come "beg" them for jobs than to go all out to call them up themselves. They feel too big!!

You are just so so half right. Thousands of jobs go unpublished everyday. Mine is an example .

I have been contacted severally on LinkedIn. For interviews, conferences, seminars etc. I finally landed a dream job in October. A recruiter just contacted me sometimes in September and by 10th we were done negotiating.

In 2012 I almost got another job through LinkedIn. It was an Indian based recruitment firm. I was selected, but the multinational firm they were recruiting for decided to change thier requirements.

It was worth the wait anyways.

When I was taking a master's program, my first internship with a big Canadian media firm was through LinkedIn. I was contacted by a media assistant because I was a regular respondent to their posts. So after back and forth dialogues for weeks on topical discussions, at a point, I informed them I was looking for a placement for my internship. I got invited without wahala and I was placed on full time payment scale. From there, I went straight into the government. LinkedIn makes sense if u make sense on it.

I agree. Nigerian recruiters are still stuck to traditional recruitment system. Headhunting not so developed here

The fact about this (imo) is that LinkedIn is more of advantage to people who wants to change jobs than fresh graduates.

so ure saying it has to do with how "rich" my profile is and the kind of groups I follow and having HR persons as my contacts, interesting. But I'm sure ure aware u can't just go adding people as connects on linkedin, its not like Facebook. You have to provide their email address to prove u know them. Anyway, i'll go with the idea, thanks.

I once got an invite from a US based engineering design firm with an office in Nigeria. I almost turned down the interview invitation since I was already gainfully employed then (that was in 2013) and I'm still gainfully employed anyway.

They later cancelled the job opening anyway due to their operational reasons. What thrilled me was that the interviewers were Italians and they actually flew in from Italy to conduct the interview in Nigeria. It was an interesting experience to have taken part in that session.

The hint is this; ensure your profile is well prepared like your resume. Also try and add enough of your colleagues and superiors who also have good network. Join various networks or groups in your field. A lot of recruitment agencies have added me through such as well.

A colleague got a job through Linkedin and resumed last month. Will ask him how he did it...

Also, while at my previous job, I also did some HR and looked for candidates on Linkedin to fill various roles but the one person I gave a trial for a freelance writing role was absolutely nothing she claimed to be. Her writing was horrible and all she did was steal articles off the internet and send to me.

That said, there are lots of recruiters searching on Linkedin for candidates. Make sure your profile is updated, be honest (very important) and most importantly, don't fold your hands waiting for recruiters to look for you; use the job search function. Most of the best workplaces out there advertise their latest roles on LinkedIn before sending such jobs to jobsearch websites.

Not job yet but I've gotten 2 invitations for interview from head hunters (jobs I didn't apply for or was aware of... You have to have a well put together profile to make this possible). I eventually stopped pursuing the first one few days to my second interview while I'm still on the second. It's a great tool, I advice that any career focused person takes it seriously.

P/S: was also contacted as a field expert by some market intelligence analyst. I granted them a one hour interview and they paid me 100 dollars

I got my present job through linkedin. It helps better if you got experience. Till date I still get calls from recruiters. Package your CV well and get relevant connections. It works like Facebook but know ur reason for being there not a social centre. Good luck
