d one I used was molded and its advisable cos those bought ones are not strong.

a bag of cement produces up to 60 blocks ,but I asked them to mould 35 ,it dries up in minutes and hard to break.but I can't really tell the trip of sand.just buy sand and focus on the bags of cement.
what? #35 blocks for just a cement bag?
This is ridiculous! 10blocks per bag of cement is advisable

Please mould your blocks. Find details below:

A tipper of sand cost 14,000 (not sharp sand o)
A tipper can mould 16 bags of cement
Workmanship per bag is 700 naira
You can mould 35 blocks with a bag of cement and the block will be very strong.
The cost of 1,120 blocks is 105,700 naira
Far better than you buying 1000 blocks for 120k
You pay for workmanship according to the bag of cements used which is 700 naira per bag regardless the number of labour used.

Is not as if there is huge margin from moulding your blocks and outright purchase. However your building will not experience any mishaps.

3. which type of sand is better for block molding.

thanks

I won't advice you to go for mass produced blocks, most guys doing mass production molded 50blocks using 1 bag of cement (dangote ordinary cement) now adays, due to dangote X3 cement, they mold 65 blocks which is barely able to give strength. Get someone to mold on site and ensure its 35-40blocks per bag of X3 dangote.

However, there are some tricks I do if I can't get anyone to mold for me when I'm on site, one of it is this: I get a drum fill it up with water, take any random block from any willing supplier, soak the block for 5-6hrs after which I pull it out of the water suddenly. If it breaks no more deal, if it stays intact, I get another random one and stand on it. And the 3rd one to check the thickness and observe the porosity of the blocks. A good block has the normal sharp sand, and soft/smooth sand mixed together with cement.

The best option is to mould the blocks provided you have a means of monitoring the guys that will do the moulding.

If you don't monitor them adequately they will end-up mould 60 blocks per bag and steal the remaining bags of cements.

If you don't have an experience in an area pls be patient enough to ask or observe and learn rather than to quickly speak and utter rubbish. That person you misquoted knows better in this field.

I helped supervise a building project few months back and we decided to mould the block on site as against buying the already made blocks. The following observations were made:

1. You can control the strength of the blocks you make on site
2. It is cheaper, we spent #89,000 to make 1000 units of 6" blocks as against #120,000 same quantity will be bought from manufacturers.
3. It requires strict supervision as some moulders can be dubious with your cement.
4. Hand moulded blocks are relatively stronger.
5. It is time consuming if its a large project because it requires time to dry properly after the day to day wetting.

Guy, better buy, cos it is cheaper, extra costs will come while moulding that u didn't anticipate, like lots of broken blocks, labour wahala, transport of materials to site, but moulders deliver to site without charging extra! Just try sha.

I also need ds info as well, but it all boils down to calculating the following:
A trip of sand costs= ?
cost of conveying it to ur house=?
A bag of cement costs=?
if a mixture of ten head pan of sand and a bag of cement prodces 40 blocks.
how many head pan of sand can we get out of a trip of sand.
the daily pay to d brick layer cost=?

Then buying from outside should be analysed thus:
40 blocks cost=?
cost of conveying it to ur house=?

These should give us d insight to d cheaper one.

Moulding urself is beta. It depends on d kind of blocks u want 2 mould. 4 story building its different, 4 bougerlow is different. A bag of cement can produce 35 blocks n 12. Bags 4 a trip of sand n it also depends on d moulds if u need assistance contact 08067149677.

10 blocks per bag of cement is waste of resources.

I am familiar with 1 bag for 26 unit of 9" blocks
And 1 bag for 38-42 units of 6" blocks.
They are stronger than the ones made with machines.

Assalamu ‘Alaikum @ alfa0,

Let me drop some lines to your inquiry.

1. It depends on your circumstances. (How fast do you want the project to be completed will determine if you need to buy ready made blocks or mold yours) however, molding has a lot of advantages over buying. e,g Quality of blocks and relatively lower in term of cost.

2. Depending on the area your project is located. We have different sizes of Tipper Truck deliverING Sharp sand. But in a simple term, 10 tyres full truck load of sand will give you 650 Blocks of 6" (15 Bags of Cements @ 45 blocks per bag) or (15 Bags of Cements @ 25 blocks per bag = 375 for 9" )

3. You will require Sharp Sand for making a strong block, also depending on the state. some state called it different names and some location also mix different sand. Here in Lagos we use sharp sand.

Do let me know if you require additional information.

I wish you goodluck in your project. tongue

Shalom.

Well the size and nature of the project will determine if moulding the blocks yourself will be better or not.
From your post I can see you are looking for cheap blocks. But note, the cheaper the block the lower the quality and strength.

Black man will build with cheap inferior blocks and blame the building collapse on innocent witches and wizards in the village.

whats the connection with being black here... so all building collapse outside africa are built by black men? Self hate?

From your analysis, we're looking at savings of 14k for every 1,120 blocks. A bungalow will require about 5k blocks, giving
you a savings of about 70k! shocked
That 70k is enough to erect a BQ tongue

As an architect, moulding is better. Depending on ur mix ratio, a trip of sand will give U̶̲̥̅̊ 300-350 blocks.....I advice strongly that U̶̲̥̅̊ use adequate cement for durability's sake pls!

At the standard rate of 40 blocks per cement bag, a trip of sand would consume 7.5 bags of cement
thus 7.5 x 40 is 300 block per trip.... my estimations

Re: Do I Mold Blocks Or Buy It? Please Advice. by Nobody: 5:04pm On Dec 15, 2014
For me, the difference btw molding and buying isnt much as we buy 100naira per 6inches blocks here . The difference is like 100naira per 1000 of well moulded blocks and they also deliver to ur site thereby removing the cost of transporting cement to ur site as well as water and sand .

So my answer is- it depends on ur location and the speed you want the work done.

Moulding is a better option considering cost and quality control. However, moulding during raining season is a dicey affair.
