Moulding is the best. Except that you need water abundantly to cure (bath) the blocks to make them very rock solid. And please concentrate on the amount of blocks per bag of cement. #40-50 per bag# those moulding it will arrive at either a plus or minus of your set target. Furthermore, 10 yards of sands can easily get you close to 1,500 blocks.

when I was building a fence in Lagos, the first set of already molded blocks I bought was only 400pcs @ 160/9' block but I can tell you that about 20% was broken. sometimes, just picking up the block from the sides made it crumble. I wasn't happy with it, so I informed the bricklayers to abandon it.
I called a man who molded blocks & bought sharp sand with 10bags of cement to start molding, I told him it was for fencing & before I returned the next day, the man moulded 500 6' blocks from those 10bags. I was not happy with him because I thought it was too much & will be weak blocks again, but the man assured me that I will be surprised by the strength of the blocks; & true to his words they were hard as rock after 4 days! the molder said the quality of the sharp sand on site influenced his decision because it was first grade sharp sand #whatever that means tho...

but ultimately, it was better quality than what I bought & I discovered it saved me more on the long run.

Hmmm! I like this ur method ooo. I jst remembered that you studied URP and an Auto enthusiast. I will try this ur style cos sometimes there might need to quickly buy the already molded ones.

lomomike:

I won't advice you to go for mass produced blocks, most guys doing mass production molded 50blocks using 1 bag of cement (dangote ordinary cement) now adays, due to dangote X3 cement, they mold 65 blocks which is barely able to give strength. Get someone to mold on site and ensure its 35-40blocks per bag of X3 dangote.

However, there are some tricks I do if I can't get anyone to mold for me when I'm on site, one of it is this: I get a drum fill it up with water, take any random block from any willing supplier, soak the block for 5-6hrs after which I pull it out of the water suddenly. If it breaks no more deal, if it stays intact, I get another random one and stand on it. And the 3rd one to check the thickness and observe the porosity of the blocks. A good block has the normal sharp sand, and soft/smooth sand mixed together with cement.

d one I used was molded and its advisable cos those bought ones are not strong.

a bag of cement produces up to 60 blocks ,but I asked them to mould 35 ,it dries up in minutes and hard to break.but I can't really tell the trip of sand.just buy sand and focus on the bags of cement.

So a bag of Cement molds 60 blocks..abi?...why not tell them to mold 100 blocks from 1 bag of cement..?..Nigerians...!!!!

Even, moulding 35 blocks from one bag is not best practice...that is why you start seeing cracks in your building after a year or two.

It is advised that you do not mould more than 28-30 blocks for a partition wall, and not more than 25 blocks per bag for a Load bearing wall.

Safety is better than waking up one day to see the house crash down on your family...because you were trying to be cheap...

@alfa0 Based on experience I would advice you to mould your blocks, at most 55blocks per bag. Secondly moulding blocks on your plot will level and solidify your plot of land.
And thirdly motivate them. When I was carrying out a project last year, I dey buy them Pepsi and bread steady, they come early and before 4pm dem don run 6bags. Godspeed bro. All the best

It is better to mould cos it is very economical and more so,you can dictate the cement /sand quantity.

It is my intention to buy a concrete mixer and a brick making machine.

Then pay a laborer to make the bricks under supervision.

At the end of thd project sell the equipments.

It won't work for everybody though.

molding block is far much better, for solid block, a bag of cement can fetch you btw 35 and 40 good blocks, and as for the sand, the tipper loads varies according to areas or state, i know that of 911 tipper load of sand will give you 200blocks maximum

Well, Hand Moulding can never be compared to Engine Vibrated. I have tried both and I must confess. Vibrated is the best.
